Reminds me of when Prince Andrew was elected to the Royal Society.

I suppose these types always believe their own publicity.

MrsLeonFarrell · 12/01/2024 13:26

Is there any evidence that Harry has accepted the award or is the organisation just using him for publicity?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 12/01/2024 13:32

Omid Scobie broke the story. Linking to his tweet and the publicity info from the org. I very much doubt that his name is merely being used.

Well it's going to be very embarrassing for the organisation if he doesn't turn up..it's maybe interesting to do a compare and contrast of PH's contribution to aviation verses that of other honorees this year.

nationalpost.com/news/prince-harry-gives-up-spitfire-seat-at-battle-of-britain-commemoration-for-95-year-old-royal-air-force-vet kind soul, loving husband and dutiful father Prince Harry is.
Unlike the one having an affair with his wife's friend in the local village, or the one who used a teenager to produce him heirs, put her in danger then went on to marry the one with whom he'd planned it all along.
Even though he wasn't even supposed to be so close to the throne if not for his grand uncle who did the right thing by abdicating to marry the one he loved.

Not surprising though he pays no tax, including inheritance tax having inherited over £2billion following his mother's demise, he's the largest land owner in the country but uses the media to distract his commoners to fight their fellow commoner who rents out one or two properties while he does nothing to free up land or even build affordable rented accommodation for young people. His children's future is financially secure though they do no work. Prevents his tenants from installing double glazing while he says he's fighting climate change.
Smokes and mirrors everytime.
His brother Andrew is being shielded with tax payers funds while he directs the media to pounce in his son to distract from the real story.

Who is having an affair @StrawberriesSW1 ?

It's just a random rant about HM and the PoW.

I think the award is hilarious. I wonder if he lines them all up on a shelf like my exh used to with his bank football league trophies?

MaturingCheeseball · 12/01/2024 14:26

Are we to infer that Omid Scobie is still very close to H&M seeing as he broke the story? No wonder the silence from them was deafening about Endgame.

Uricon2 · 12/01/2024 14:32

The faults and failings, real or imaginary, of the rest of the RF do not make PH a legend of aviation @StrawberriesSW1 I can acknowledge his military service and the real contribution he's made with things like Invictus and Sentebale and still think this "award" is a load of nonsense that he should be embarrassed by accepting.

They have their criteria and their board to decide who is wins. If you have such knowledge and expertise in aviation them perhaps set yours up. Hopefully you've enquired from the Daily Mail which barometer they've used to measure the "outrage" they're claiming. Of course you have nothing to say about them going from hailing him for being a pilot and then piquing the public against him.

Doppelgangers · 12/01/2024 14:46

StrawberriesSW1 · 12/01/2024 13:47

This is a bonkers comparison. There's over a decade between these two articles and the second title is clearly quoting someone's opinion on him.

You can like him think he does good things elsewhere, be happy he got to marry someone he loves and have the family he always said he wanted and still think him being given this award is frankly ridiculous.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 12/01/2024 15:03

Even though he wasn't even supposed to be so close to the throne if not for his grand uncle who did the right thing by abdicating to marry the one he loved.

Pity she didn't really love him. She still loved her ex, but stuck with him out of guilt that he had abdicated.

And both of them were Nazi sympathisers who colluded with Hitler. The govt prior to the abdication were pretty happy that "his love" gave them an excuse to get rid of him via the rules of succession. Good job they did, otherwise you'd be typing your posts in German on Mutternet.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 12/01/2024 15:12

the one who used a teenager to produce him heirs, put her in danger

Diana and her family - far more aristocratic than the Windsors - were extremely keen for their daughter to marry Charles. She was in love with him. She left school at 16 and was a working woman whenvshe met him, as many people were in those days - responsible grown ups with jobs/careers from a much younger age than happens today. I agree he was very wrong to marry someone he was not in love with, however, he didn't "use" her.

"Put her in danger" how? She put herself in danger by firing the experienced people around her, in particular security people, having listened to Martin Bashir's lies - lies he used to induce her into her TV interview and which fuelled her paranoia. Charles Spencer (whom, he also lied to) is trying to bring Bashir and the BBC to book on this. The lies, incidentally, were some pretty hideous accusations against Charles.

Yes Edward VIII and Wallis were strong Nazi sympathisers and had hopes that the Nazi's would re-install him onto the British throne when the Nazis won WW2.

Edward remained a British military officer even after abdication during WW2, attached to the British Miliary Mission in France. As such he received top secret military briefings. It is believed that he leaked intelligence that helped the Nazis occupy Belgium. This was why he was shipped off to relative obscurity as the Governor of the Bahamas for the rest of the war.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 12/01/2024 15:30

the one having an affair with his wife's friend in the local village

Debunked by the confession of Giles Coren, who said he made it up.

Dan Wooten - you're relying on him now - broke this none story, but it soon petered out. The British tabloids would not run with it, because they couldn't corroborate it, and it was libellous. Page 6 and the other tabloids is the US had no such constraints, however, and ran with it, thus perpetuating a made up rumour. This is one of the many myths about the British press protecting one brother over the other, while the US press published the truth. The British press were covering their own backs because they couldn't prove the story was anything other than slanderous under the law of England and Wales.

😂Of course they bigged him up 13 years ago, but there's been a lot of water under the bridge since then, as you know.

I thought Harry wanted to be valued for himself and his real achievements? Everyone knows that if he were former Captain Harry Smith from Nether Wallop, with exactly the same qualifications and service record, the chance of meeting the "criteria" of this "board" would be zilch.

AliceOlive · 12/01/2024 15:47

What a delightfully hysterical derail. Harry is getting a nonsense award so we end up talking about events from 100 and 30 years ago, disproven vile gossip planted by a buddy of his five years ago and his weird Uncle Andrew. Then sprinkle in praise he received as a young pilot in training from 10+ years ago.

Yes, it all makes sense that Harry is named as a legend in aviation now.

And we all take the bait. It’s brilliant. Well played.

I’m amazed Henry the eighth hasn’t been dragged in for justification for this laughable award.

I'm wondering what 'near catastrophic' publicity stunt is going to take place at this awards ceremony and if the RF and British Ambassador to the US are on standby to ask if they are OK?
