Happy Birthday, Spare!

It’s the one year anniversary of the release of Spare, how are you all celebrating?!

In all seriousness, a year on what impact do you think the book has had on the Royal Family and the Sussexes?

In my opinion it clearly did very well commercially but in popular culture it became a bit of a joke. In terms of the RF I’m not sure it made much difference - to people who already didn’t like them it confirmed what they already believed, to people who did like them it was more evidence that Harry was no loss. I also think even a year later it has made reconciliation between William and Harry impossible.

And this is one of the stock tropes you trot out every time someone posts something true you don't like. I'm not obsessed. I'm accurate.

Personally I don't think I have trotted that out before as a 'stock trope'. If I have I can't remember. No doubt you will go off and advance search me to prove me wrong

I have talked about avoiding famous people I don't like if you mean that. Because it's common sense

Good grief! You are honestly obsessed with them! Do you log this on a spreadsheet?

That’s a bit rich since you took extreme offense at being called a super fan. Dishing it out and not being able to take it isn’t a credible position.

I'm not attacking. I'm just gobsmacked. I just don't know why they can't do those things listed. What is the matter with it. They're living their life

I have been called a super fan and a stan today.

I just cannot get my head round why someone would follow in such details someone they don't like

Good afternoon, all. This is a reminder to keep threads on topic without resorting to getting personal - if we have to keep deleting personal attacks it results in threads being deleted, too.

Feel free to report. I was just astonished at the two big lists.

Yes, always. Obsessed. Bullying. Same old rubbish when answering legitimately in response to statements or questions other posters pose.

Roussette · 14/01/2024 15:52

I'll leave you to it. I don't want to take away your space for talking about them

jeffgoldblum · 14/01/2024 15:52

I already have .

Can I just add ..... I had an enormous crush on Christopher Plummer as a youngster!

Lockupyourbiscuits · 14/01/2024 16:02

Going back to spare - I’m an avid reader but I can’t bear to read any more about Harry poor me my life is so hard
Does he mention any dealings at all with Prince Andrew , Beatrice, Eugenie - as he was very close to them I would expect them to be part of his life story - maybe not so much Andrew but surely he’s worth a mention

Where at any point anywhere have I or anyone else said "they can't do these things listed"? The answer is nowhere, but you plop these statements in to twist the purpose of the original post. Once again, the original statement posited was:

They are not active.

When was their last public event?

This is what I have answered. And no, not from a spreadsheet or obsession as you snidely said, but from a 5 minute google search.

Ridemeginger · 14/01/2024 16:09

@EncantoSpice I actually think there is relevance to looking at what has been going on since Spare, especially as we have had the "It was a year ago, why are you obsessed?" posts in response to your thread. There is a cumulative effect to their actions which many don't seem to understand, and I see that as a marker to narcissistic thinking. Spare is not an isolated phenomenon, and not one that can just be dismissed as, that was then, why are you still harping on about it?

Any speculation as to what the other books in the deal will be?

I've read it. My view is that Harry ( or his writers) over dramatise. This is based on one small section about Harry’s service career and being posted to North Yorkshire.
He made it sound like he was being sent to the wilderness.

In real life, RAF Leeming is on the side of the A1 - the main motorway in the north. A really large base, 5 miles from one town, 10 miles from a larger town. Easy A1 access to Durham, Newcastle and Leeds (less than an hour in each direction). Hardly the wilderness!

If this small piece is so over dramatised and easy to correct factually. What else is factually incorrect and over dramatised

Reflecting - maybe to attract the American market.

Much more interesting for Harry to be living wild, on the heather filled, desolate moors, in the middle of nowhere, than a huge base on the edge of the motorway. 😂

Don't you realise how traumatic it was not to be able to go clubbing in London whenever he wanted? 😮

Agree but both since and before. From the statement of half in half out, the collaborating with the queen, to the spiteful interviews after they got a no, where apparently they were never half in half out, they were running for their lives, to the book, to all the weird stuff in between, from Dior to car chases to aviation awards.

its a huge continuation of behaviour that creates a pattern.

wildernesssw · 14/01/2024 16:19

Apparently Beau Brummell, of Regency era fashion fame, resigned from the army when his regiment was posted to Manchester!
