Extensive Phone Hacking by MGN

So... Harry has won his case.

As lawyers are saying now... this is massive. 15 out of 33 accusations of hacking by Harry were upheld as a result of phone hacking and other illegal practices.
Hacking and blagging were even taking place during the Leveson enquiry.

He has won damages of £140,000 plus. And before this thread descends into Harry hate, please think of all the other claimants who have also had their claims upheld and damages awarded to them. They went through hell, medical records hacked and reported on, trackers on cars, phones hacked...

It's not about the money, it's about 'accountability of power'.

These high profile cases led by Harry and Steve Coogan and Hugh Grant etc are so welcome because they throw light on so many hidden practices
There is so much secrecy and silence in the so called higher echelons of our society . The ‘royals’ need silence and secret deals etc so they will never fight the good fight. They do not lead .

Byline times and Carole Vorderman are beacons too.
Our society needs a shake up. Let the light in for gods sake.

Totally agree Novella4. There seems to be an an omertá among the elites, and the right ring press and it all seems to be getting worse not better! It’s all about the money of course.

Great post. So agree.

It is only by certain people sticking their necks out, that there is a light being shone on the murky practices.

Well done Harry for pursuing this.

The Royals 'do deals' behind closed doors. Summer parties and dinners for certain members of the media, glad handing, and then leaks to either buy silence or get a bigged up PR story on themselves. They must hate Harry challenging the press, it could bring the whole pack of cards down.

Yes to CaroleV and Byline too. It's a struggle but they don't give up.

Thanks, @ALittleTeawithmilk . I remember the mass deletion of emails by News Corps, and a few other incidents which were reported on around the time the hacking scandal broke and the Leveson Inquiry.

I don't remember much about Will Lewis individually from that time, but there were so many of them up to their necks. Well, obviously, because phone hacking and other illegal data intustions were so widely used in that industry.

"intustions"?

I seem to have invented a new word!

Has a good ring to it: I wonder what it means?Grin

'They must hate Harry challenging the press, it could bring the whole pack of cards down'

William challenged the press too and settled didnt you know? I'm sure it's been mentioned on this very thread. As Good King Harold The Dragon Slayer has just settled. He was a bit late to the party. Maybe too busy playing naked snooker in Vegas? who knows.

Why would you imagine I don't know William took the case and settled and it started Leveson 1?
Why?
I obviously know this as I have spoken about it many a time on these threads. And I'm sure you were present at the time.

Ahhh... I've read the rest of your post now... it's just a chance to have a poke at Harry with some infantile name calling and insults.
OK. Understood. Got it.

Erm, well when you say they must hate Harold challenging the press? Sounded like you had no idea William already had!

What name calling? He calls himself 'the dragon slayer' <lol> and it's his dwindling supprorters who gave him the 'Good King Harry' name. I agree it does sound ridiculous, true Grin.

Roussette · 13/02/2024 16:16

Of course I knew ! I posted about it, more than once, and I don't doubt you were on the threads at the time because (can't be arsed to look) I imagine you talked of it.
I've never called him Good King Harry, what a stupid name, you are muddling me up with someone else... really not my style at all

Well why did you say the royals must hate that Harry had challenged the press when as you're pointing out William already had. Makes no sense.

I didn't say you called him Good King Harry. I said it was a name given by his dwindling supporters. You'd said I'd insulted him and name called when I hadn't. Unless you agree Good King Harry is a silly name?

Roussette · 13/02/2024 16:41

You don't read my posts. I can't help that.

Here you go. From my post. what a stupid name, Not sure why I have to repeat it.

I know Harry wasn't the only one, I know William challenged the media too. I am talking about Harry's ongoing court cases against the media.

So why would the rf hate it?! why 'the house of cards' falling down comment when W did it and the house of cards is still intact? Think you overestimate the Dragon Slayer tbh.

wildernesssw · 13/02/2024 17:26

I think it gets harder and harder to defend H&M, and find ways of attacking people who find them amusing!

Becuase he is continuing to challenge, he didn't just settle one case, he has multiple cases.

Of course that wouldn't be great for the royals because as he continues to challenge and if he wins it means thing are likely to chnage and whatever agreements they have in place could also end for them. No longer protected when they need it.

^^ This.

Exactly what I was coming on to say.

He isn't giving up.

and that doesn't mean I think he is Good King Harry

On historical claims. It's old news, it doesn't happen anymore, he has an axe to grind great he has every right to pursue it but it is no more 'house of cards' tumbling down <as a pp dramatically suggested> than when Williiam settled.

You overestimate him, massively.

AliceOlive · 13/02/2024 17:58

So William who had his phone hacked and topless photos of his wife leaked will hate any change to the media. Right. He’s been so well protected. No one had ever gone after his wife, his marriage, his children.

Harry who settled is brave. William who settled is a coward.

More likely that a guy who talks publicly about his pee pee doesn’t find open court intrusive but instead revels in every chance he gets to speak about himself.

I just can’t make sense of the attitudes I see on here. They could have been fighting this together but not after the many privacy breaches Harry has committed against his own family.

Roussette · 13/02/2024 18:07

William who settled is a coward.

Who said that? Not me. It triggered Leveson 1 so it was a good thing.

*They could have been fighting this together

No they couldn't. Harry was prepared to go to court and take it all the way. That is not a criticism of William, given his position, he can't go to court. And bear in mind, Charles tried to talk Harry out of going any further with this, so there would be no 'fighting this together'

@Roussette I think it’s on another thread where William has been called a coward for settling.
