The royals and Dan Wootton: Byline Times part 1 of 3-year investigation into how Wootton got information about the royal family

Following their series about the Crisis in British Journalism and MediaToo movement, Byline Times reporters have recently released the first report of the 3 year investigation into the link between the royals and (disgraced) TV presenter Dan Wootton.

The first report reveals how Charles and William were angered that Harry refused to remove the name of an aide (William's aide in Kensington) who was paid cash to leak stories about his wife Meghan, and son Archie. This included investigations by the Met.

As a result, Charles removed the $700,000 granted to support them, which would have seen Harry and Meghan living in Canada and representing the Queen, in an effort to bring them back to the UK by exposing their location in Canada and removing their security. This was the collapse of the 'Sandringham Agreement', which resulted in the signing of the Sussexes media deals.

Some highlights, but can be bought for £3.6:

▪ It followed news that a partner of a key aide to Prince William received £4,000 from The Sun allegedly for stories about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when Wootton was executive editor.

▪ The Metropolitan Police looked into the alleged leaking but could not go to a judge for a warrant to search royal staff property without knowing the identity of the whistle-blowers.

▪ Two internal royal investigations followed – one involving Simon Case, who is today the embattled head of the civil service facing questions over the Government’s response to the pandemic.

▪ Byline Times has uncovered new photographic evidence of Wootton, the aide and the aide’s partner at a lavish private birthday party Wootton threw for his close friends in a £1,675-a-night hotel suite.

▪ Prince Harry sent formal ‘letters before action’ detailing the claims about Wootton and the palace to News UK.

▪ When the aide’s name was not removed from the legal letters, the Sussexes were cut adrift financially and left unable to protect themselves despite having a security threat level equal to the monarch.

▪ The royal household had thought the threat of exposure would force Harry and Meghan to return to the UK, where their profile could be controlled preventing them from eclipsing the future King

And for the royals they have the extra issue of 'court rivalry' - it's clear that things have not moved on very far from Tudor times in terms of power plays by different factions - acting for their principle or acting for themselves?

Oh yes. I really recommend 'Marie Antionette' the BBC drama series. I imagine not much has changed with different households/courts and briefing against each other.

It is clear that Meghan dislikes both her in laws and her own relatives. And possibly stoking Harry’s hatred of his birth family. Eugenie and Beatrice might have a case for casting their parents adrift but they haven’t.

I don’t understand the logic of briefing publicly via the media against other royal households when the hierarchy is already in place and the single revenue stream of cash comes from one source - the tax payer?

On another thread someone said that Camilla has been briefing the press re William’s affairs - and that Harry has alluded to this in Spare .... I can’t see the logic of announcing your step-son, heir to the throne was unfaithful to the public via the media - what would Camilla or the RF have to gain by this?

She should obviously stay friendly with her half sister and half brother and her father... okay...

I suspect a major part of it is the sheer lack of anything else to worry about and huge amounts of spare time meaning hours on end spent on petty one upmanship where others have jobs, housework, childcare etc!

I’m not saying what she should do. Heaven forfend. My only suggestion is that she might remember the lovely way KC walked her down the aisle for instance. The only person they tolerate is Doris. They have such high standards for other people.

I think your post is very unfair derxa. Harry speaks warmly of his father in his book. Meghan's father, and the two others are really awful, selling them out for the highest bid. How on earth she copes with how they have been, goodness only knows. I feel sorry for her.
As for Doria, yes of course, a classy woman who they are both close to.

You seem to believe implicitly in this investigation. It is being carried out by a gutter journalist It seems to be about the murky dealings between Dan Wootton and palace staff. Do you really think William sat down personally with these characters and cooked all this up.

Seriously, derxa what is the point because you would never ever see even one thing wrong with Charles, William Kate or any of them. I know you think they are totally faultless. Always.

Should palace staff be involved in 'murky dealings' with the likes of Dan Wootton? NO. And they were. He is on tape saying he gets his info from palace staff. And those staff work for the RF.

I could turn it all around another way. I’m glad William is no fool. I’m glad he doesn’t get taken in by knaves and charlatans like his father and uncle were. He is a strong character who will make a very good king.

I think that if you are not going to have an open mind about this byline investigation, and judge it on its merits as the instalments are published, then perhaps this thread is not for you.

I have plenty of criticisms of any member of the royal family because they’re human beings. Kate and William keep people at a distance and can be slightly cool and haughty. But may I remind you that they are the future King and Queen of England. 🤣
