The royals and Dan Wootton: Byline Times part 1 of 3-year investigation into how Wootton got information about the royal family

queentim · 30/10/2023 16:07

Following their series about the Crisis in British Journalism and MediaToo movement, Byline Times reporters have recently released the first report of the 3 year investigation into the link between the royals and (disgraced) TV presenter Dan Wootton.

The first report reveals how Charles and William were angered that Harry refused to remove the name of an aide (William's aide in Kensington) who was paid cash to leak stories about his wife Meghan, and son Archie. This included investigations by the Met.

As a result, Charles removed the $700,000 granted to support them, which would have seen Harry and Meghan living in Canada and representing the Queen, in an effort to bring them back to the UK by exposing their location in Canada and removing their security. This was the collapse of the 'Sandringham Agreement', which resulted in the signing of the Sussexes media deals.

Some highlights, but can be bought for £3.6:

▪ It followed news that a partner of a key aide to Prince William received £4,000 from The Sun allegedly for stories about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when Wootton was executive editor.

▪ The Metropolitan Police looked into the alleged leaking but could not go to a judge for a warrant to search royal staff property without knowing the identity of the whistle-blowers.

▪ Two internal royal investigations followed – one involving Simon Case, who is today the embattled head of the civil service facing questions over the Government’s response to the pandemic.

▪ Byline Times has uncovered new photographic evidence of Wootton, the aide and the aide’s partner at a lavish private birthday party Wootton threw for his close friends in a £1,675-a-night hotel suite.

▪ Prince Harry sent formal ‘letters before action’ detailing the claims about Wootton and the palace to News UK.

▪ When the aide’s name was not removed from the legal letters, the Sussexes were cut adrift financially and left unable to protect themselves despite having a security threat level equal to the monarch.

▪ The royal household had thought the threat of exposure would force Harry and Meghan to return to the UK, where their profile could be controlled preventing them from eclipsing the future King

It's going to be entertaining when Harry comes back for the Invictus 10 year anniversary service this May.
I'm thinking he'll thank his family for giving him such a prestigious and worthwhile project.

It was a transplant of the existing US Warrior Games to a wider international participation.

Although it started off in the Royal Foundation, I think it was very much Harry's project, but it used the backing of the wider RF (including ER II) and engagement of MoD and the military charitable sector to really get it off the ground. And that's what Royals are good for - getting the right people round the table, getting them to commit to the vision, and then supporting and encouraging it as it happens. Plus getting the press along, as the RF engagement brings the clicks to the worthwhile endeavour

Corinthiana · 08/04/2024 18:08

Yes, that's right. I doubt Harry will give credit where it's due, though.

ArcaneWireless · 08/04/2024 18:32

”slimy Greek looking thug”?

Nice.

ArcaneWireless · 08/04/2024 18:35

I think if Harry had been responsible for getting the Invictus Games up and running, we would still be waiting.

”slimy Greek looking thug”?

Nice.

That's just awful! What is actually wrong with these people? They sound scarily deranged.

Plus William is much better looking than Harry!

PilatesHippo · 08/04/2024 19:32

What have I just read 🤯??? This is insane. What is wrong with people???

Tremour · 08/04/2024 19:33

Amen!

I feel rather betrayed than I engaged with posters here in good faith and spent time attempting to debate with them, when it looks like they were on script and weren't good-faith actors.

Anyone who has recognised the pattern of tag-team attempts to shut down debate will be wondering now if we were being bouzied.

Betrayed is a bit strong. If long term posters (genuine people) who happen to not share the same views as you on Meghan have decided to stop posting how have you been betrayed?

I'd rather wonder why they have had to make that decision because if people are having a discussion where there are differing views and its all good faith then why do they feel the need to leave. Except from what I see they make a comment and then get jumped on and what they say is them turned into jokes (or as I prefer to see it as mocking them). This doesn't just happen on the RF threads, it happens on lots of other threads on various topics too. I am not saying you are someone who does that but in general I can understand why some people decide to stop posting.

I too don't post often because its ahppened to me whether its on RF threads or eother threads on this forum. Its really not in the spirit of this fourm I think and to be honest the more I see the less I want to be on a forum because its no longer a genuine discussion, no longer understanding why someone has a different view and then challenging it in a polite way.

In no way are you being betrayed, infact I would say its a real shame becase it takes away from good healthy discussions and debates. Regardless though, People are free to come and go on this forum and post as and when they want to.

AliceOlive · 08/04/2024 19:37

I think you misunderstood the feelings of that poster.

Charles had sort of made a rod for his own back. He used the Duchy money to provide a platform for William and Harry as equal brothers that was not long term and gave the impression to Harry that he was as valued in the hierarchy sense that never happened to Andrew, Edward and Anne, due to the age of Queen the siblings all knew their place. The rumours are that he had asked if the Duchy would be split once the queen died. Which would make sense with his thinking of equal standing and him and Meghan better candidates.

I do agree with this, in some ways he created the situation but I can imagine its not easy. I can't imagine being in that situation where my sister is an heir and I am considered the spare. I do think they need to really address this going forward, that those who are 'spares' should be able to have jobs and more importantly be less tied to RF protocols. I do think there was something to that half in half out idea they had, just poorly executed.

ArcaneWireless · 08/04/2024 19:42

He is decent naw he isnae
and wants to achieve success without undermining anyone pish cos he did even though he can inflict the severest damage he did to the people * who have determinedly made it their obsession to destroy his family life and marriage naw they didnae. That says much about the life and determination of the Sussexes to succeed with passion, sympatico, without rancour but that’s pish* tae and ignore the twisted poisonous atmosphere they left behind in the United Kingdom.’ an’ that’s made up shite.

Except from what I see they make a comment and then get jumped on and what they say is them turned into jokes (or as I prefer to see it as mocking them)... in general I can understand why some people decide to stop posting.

Hmm - the RF boards here have been pretty robust for a long time and many previously habitual posters (often posting every day) seemed fine with that. They also didn't mind piling on other posters and accusing them of racism, gullibility and forelock tugging. Neither did they mind derailing or trying to get a thread deleted if it wasn't going their way. Until of course a few days ago when they all suddenly disappeared en masse. You really don't see anything strange in that?

If by mocking them you are referring to people laughing at obviously ridiculous suggestions like it's because the weather is so lovely or there's nothing in the news about H+M, then what do they expect? The latest threads are literally about a news story and it's somehow hard to believe that only M+H supporters are experiencing weather so nice that they stop posting on a site that they have previously frequented every day. (During Storm Kathleen btw.)

Don’t forget being accused of frothing , hating or being a DM reader . I have certainly had it dished out to me when I have dared to criticise H and M’s behaviour.

Oh yes a racist DM reader - used by many of the SS to try and shut down a debate on the RF board. 🙄

What news story though? The only stuff getting any real attention ATM is about a load of idiots slugging it out on Twitter, and I wouldn't really call that news

Well you obviously seem to know those posteres so name them and lets see if they have disappeared en masse or are they posting elsewhere on the site and just not on the RF Board. I saw that comment from Spectre on the other thread giving their reason why they aren't posting anymore, which was in response to some mumsnetters wondering why some have suddenly disappeared.

You can't have it both ways if you are asking why have these posters disappeared and someone pops up and says why they have you can't then laugh at their reasons. They are telling that is their reason, why is that ridiculous? Why is it ridiculous if someone is spending time outside in good weather instead of being on the internet? I don't think that is ridiculous. So why is it ridiculours and laughable if an adult decides to not spend the majoirty of their time debating the RF with strangers?

I mean if they are saying they aren't posting more because of good weather and then were posting more because of bad weather that kind of makes sense. Stuck in doors probably done all the things that can be done indoors and bored - thats what common sense tells me. When I am bored I frequent various forums on things I am interested in.

Anyway that was one mumsnetter and their reason, it doesn't speak for all of whoever you are grouping as those who have disappeared but then again I am not tracking people and how often they post and when they post to determine any sort of pattern and to be honest you would need to be looking at all their posting history over a long time period to arrive at those conclusions.

You can't name them or your post will get deleted. They are conspicuous by their absence, it has to be said. It's very strange that they have all disappeared seemingly but what would I know. I didn't see what the poster you named gave as their reason but that was a prime example.

As for the weather it was pishing down here all day.

You don't need to be tracking people either.

It was a glorious day here.

Three washes oot. Delightful walk.

Pishing down tomorrow.

It is remarkable the insight you can get on MN. Those who don’t post often often have such interesting things to say. And often have a remarkable grasp of what has transpired despite clearly having much better things to do usually with their time.

Such heights of perception.

A gift.

The story in the press about the police dropping their investigation into Dan Wootton and him suing Byline Times and others? DW is the subject of this thread.
