The royals and Dan Wootton: Byline Times part 1 of 3-year investigation into how Wootton got information about the royal family

queentim · 30/10/2023 16:07

Following their series about the Crisis in British Journalism and MediaToo movement, Byline Times reporters have recently released the first report of the 3 year investigation into the link between the royals and (disgraced) TV presenter Dan Wootton.

The first report reveals how Charles and William were angered that Harry refused to remove the name of an aide (William's aide in Kensington) who was paid cash to leak stories about his wife Meghan, and son Archie. This included investigations by the Met.

As a result, Charles removed the $700,000 granted to support them, which would have seen Harry and Meghan living in Canada and representing the Queen, in an effort to bring them back to the UK by exposing their location in Canada and removing their security. This was the collapse of the 'Sandringham Agreement', which resulted in the signing of the Sussexes media deals.

Some highlights, but can be bought for £3.6:

▪ It followed news that a partner of a key aide to Prince William received £4,000 from The Sun allegedly for stories about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when Wootton was executive editor.

▪ The Metropolitan Police looked into the alleged leaking but could not go to a judge for a warrant to search royal staff property without knowing the identity of the whistle-blowers.

▪ Two internal royal investigations followed – one involving Simon Case, who is today the embattled head of the civil service facing questions over the Government’s response to the pandemic.

▪ Byline Times has uncovered new photographic evidence of Wootton, the aide and the aide’s partner at a lavish private birthday party Wootton threw for his close friends in a £1,675-a-night hotel suite.

▪ Prince Harry sent formal ‘letters before action’ detailing the claims about Wootton and the palace to News UK.

▪ When the aide’s name was not removed from the legal letters, the Sussexes were cut adrift financially and left unable to protect themselves despite having a security threat level equal to the monarch.

▪ The royal household had thought the threat of exposure would force Harry and Meghan to return to the UK, where their profile could be controlled preventing them from eclipsing the future King

“Focus on one thing” - like Harry and Meghan then? I don’t think a pair ever had more causes.

H&M aren't working members of the Royal Family.

A big difference

The ‘royals’ so far have shown themselves incapable of reflection or discourse King Charles has just finished making a major speech at COP28. He has spent his whole life reflecting and discussing important subjects. Why was he asked if he is so irrelevant? Why was he given star treatment in France and Germany recently? The other royals are never out of the the papers and discussed on TV. Many politicians would kill for this level of publicity. You just make these blanket negative statements and expect people to swallow them whole.

I just spent some time reading about the Duchy of Cornwall and Charles’ sustainability efforts. Impressive

Was it also "impressive" that Charles fought so hard against making the Duchy's envoronmental impact public, Alice?

I don’t think it would be a good idea for the PM and the King of our country to be on the same plane do you?

Samcro · 01/12/2023 19:43

But such a good idea to take 2 private jets, and then lecture on climate change!

pilates · 01/12/2023 19:52

Let’s face it nothing would be good enough for you when it comes to KC.

also I said him and the pm took private flights

… and down the derailing rabbit hole we go.

that said, it’s an illustration of just how existentially so many people perceive any threat to the monarchy in the UK. To the extent that they will come out swinging in their defence, no matter what they do, inheritance tax dodging, suitcases of cash accepting, paedo condoning, theft of dead people inheritance etc etc etc be dammed.

Unsurprising, I guess, after centuries of drinking the royal family Kool-Aid.

But the tides they are a-turning… thanks to investigative journalism and the bravery of the likes of Harry, whose decision to crack wide-open the Faustian pact between the Royal family and the media that has made his life such hell thus far, and has condemned him to what could be more decades of hell…

What a price to pay for fighting the good fight…

I admire Harry with Meghan behind him for moving away and saying.... ok, this ain't right!

(Cue poster saying.. give up your titles, don't identify with the RF then.... why shouldn't he? Get rid of Andrew and he might listen)

Yep. They need another $$ Privacy Tour pretty please.

Let's all have some fun watching what they come up with next. Which will be as ephemeral and vaporous as the last tour/show/series/etc.

Again, there are other threads for Harry and Meghan bashing. This is not the thread.

I didn’t go back 12 years, @Puzzledandpissedoff

I read this now. It’s pretty thin on details. Maybe you know something horrible that was going on that wasn’t explained here.

I remain impressed. But more than happy to read anything else from current times or even prior decades you’d like to send over.

I worked for a company where more than three of us from one department were not allowed on a plane together. Trust me, I wasn’t that important so I don’t have an issue with a King and a PM taking separate flights. 😂

My goodness, I have never ever known that. I won't labour the point about that, but am only speaking from experience and people I know.

The King I understand... who'd want to be in Cameron and Sunak's company but it's disgusting that those two travelled seperately by private jets to COP28. What an example that shows

Yeah, how great it would be if they all just stopped trying to improve anything.

Maybe they should start by reducing their own consumption and not tax avoiding so much instead of 'publicising' other people's efforts so they don't have to. Granted, Charles walks the walk more than William with his excessive helicopter use, but they could do much more with their almost unlimited pots of money than they do. It will be interesting to see what they do about the excessively high rent they charge to offshore wind companies, or how much they spend making their properties that are rented from the Dutchies and Crown Estates better insulated and ecologically sound (paid for out of the profits of those estates rather than us)

You may want to have a read of this report from the Duchy of Cornwall, which shows the efforts it has made over the last two decades under Charles’ control to move to net zero?

https://duchyofcornwall.org/assets/pdf/DuchyNZCReport2022.pdf

An extract from that shows:

Using 1990 as the baseline year, following typical Kyoto Protocol targets, we met our target of 25% reduction by 2008/09 and a subsequent reduction target of 40% by 2012. A new target was set to reduce GHG emissions
by 60% against baseline by 2020, which was achieved in 2018/19.

The report also shows that only 5% of the Duchy’s emissions come from property (and a refurbishment programme is underway, you’ll be pleased to read). The vast majority - 62% - comes from farming. The report says the Duchy is working with farmers to support them to get to net zero (I wonder if the methane -reducing idea that was highlighted in Earthshot this year might be something William trials in the Duchy? - a solution to that would make a big difference to farming).

Anyway, given Charles is now in charge of the Duchy of Lancaster, it would be reasonable to think he intends to ensure similar standards and programmes are implemented there too.
