George's exams

Kate is not going with william to Singapore as George has important exams. What exams would a 10 year old be sitting in November?
I know nothing about private school systems so hoping someone here does.

I'd like to think that a fair exam/test system has been established by now. 😁

However, wasn't there a Harry Enfield (?) sketch long ago suggesting that if you didn't know the answer to the set exam question, alternative answers were accepted: 'my father drives a porche', 'I have a royal title', 'my family owns Hampshire' etc.

The corgies could get into schools on this basis :)

openallday · 02/10/2023 15:35

Oh. I wonder if he will get in?

🙄

Angrycat2768 · 02/10/2023 15:40

Yes. I can imagine any of their University personal statements wouldn't have to read as more than ' I am Prince Charles/William etc'

doris9034 · 02/10/2023 15:42

isn't the point that Catherine is prioritising her children by staying at home to support George, rather than travelling overseas?

AmazingSnakeHead · 02/10/2023 15:43

Don't kids also take the 11+ at that age? Although I wouldn't know when.

It’s the ISEB, the first part of the process for getting a place at Eton. He’ll be doing exams in verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, maths and English.

I dislike this topic as it’s about a child and his schooling shouldn’t be up for discussion. I believe Kate was wrong to open him to this kind of speculation but that’s my opinion.

I’m just going to say that there is no exam in November. There are assessments sat in an informal setting.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/10/2023 14:58

11+ exams? Selection exams for his senior school. Although…..he’s not going to be rejected it’s he.

Private schools typically sit 11+ exams in December.

GingerIsBest · 02/10/2023 15:50

I have a sneaky suspicion that George will NOT be attending Eton.

But yes, at this point, children are prepping for exams for secondary school. Some schools will take children from year 7 (as with state schools), some from year 9 and some from both.

The exams are, of course, a huge part of a student getting in. But even if we assume that George can pretty much go wherever he likes, there are still good reasons to do the exams, and prepare properly. For example, if they decide NOT to send him to Eton, I imagine the Kate in particular would want to ensure he's not being sent to a school that is more or less academic than he could cope with. Also, many schools will use these exams as a baseline for how they integrate the children and what classes they're in etc once they arrive (like they do with SATS from Year 6 at state secondaries).

I saw this and was a bit surprised that she isn't going on a work trip.

She's doomed whatever she does. If she says she's not travelling because George has "assessments" she's just going to be laughed at.

It's a bit of a hoha isn't it? As If a top school won't let a future king in.i suppose it will be so George feels like all the other kids but come on !

everetting · 02/10/2023 15:01

So young children have three years of exam to go to a named secondary school?
I know Kate has no control over the process, but it seems a ridiculously long process for young children.
Why can't they do it all when they are 11?

Traditional public schools start at Yr9. Many now offer limited Yr7 starts. Some independent schools start in Y7 the assessments are either just before or just after Christmas here. Eton etc slightly different as discussed earlier in thread

I don't think it is a work trip. Earthshot is William's project, it is independent of the Royal Foundation now so Catherine doesn't have a role.

The ISEB exams are in early November this year.

In my opinion, she should have kept him out of it. The longer he is left alone by the press and public, the better. Once you open him up to this, there tends to be a sense of ownership by the public and the press where they feel they get a say in his life or become overly invested. It’s like an open invitation. We’ve seen how unhealthy and detrimental this attention (and intrusion) can be for royal children.

But if he has to take the exams he has to take the exams. How is she supposed to have “kept him out of it”. And what is “it”?

GingerIsBest · 02/10/2023 16:17

Also, based on the news reports I had a quick look and it looks like she said something like she's staying for family reasons and to support the children. Which is totally reasonable.

Has this been officially announced as the reason she is not going ( if indeed she isn’t)?

How can she keep him out of it? People who know how the ISEB process works will know that’s what he’s doing. They’ve been seen visiting Eton… I wonder how the photographers knew to be there that day?

She could have just not gone to Earthshot. As others have said, it's Williams thing, not Kates. The only reason people are talking about it is because it was announced as the reason she wasn't going.

Where was it announced ?

Wasn't it announced by them/their people? How would we know otherwise?

wordler · 02/10/2023 17:17

Someone at the Telegraph heard rumours she wasn’t going and then all the royal reporters started speculating about it (and presumably asking for comment )until someone at Kensington Palace confirmed it and gave that reason.

I don't know about Eton but know of an independent school (that is regularly ranked highly nationally) conducting an assessment day during that week.
