The Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the Invictus Games 2023

MrsMaxDeWinter · 13/09/2023 11:45

Most of the Invictus threads seem to be filling up, or focused on fairly parochial issues, so I thought, now that Meghan is in Dusseldorf, I would lead us off with a general new thread about Harry and Meghan at Invictus 2023.

Some initial thoughts from me.

The UK tabloid narrative about how much Harry and Meghan are loathed globally is blown apart by the warm and rousing welcome they both received, both separately and together. So the UK tabloids have to dig deep to write eye-rollingly silly stories about Harry being "humiliated" because he did not score a goal during a fun, light-hearted TV appearance to promote the Games.

Invictus clearly means everything to Harry, and it is lovely to see Meghan supporting him, and to remember that it was at Invictus in Toronto that they first went public. The event must have such lovely memories for them both.

Favourite picture: Meghan with Glory Essien, the Nigerian athlete.

The Nigerians have really lit up the tournament. A Kenyan senator who met Harry last week posted on X that she would work on Kenya to be the next African team.

After everything in the last year, it's so lovely to see that Invictus is getting bigger, that Harry is as committed as he has always been to the Games he started, and that Meghan is there to support the veterans, and her husband.

How do you know Harry hasn't asked her to? what if part of the support Harry wants is her handing out medals beside him, as a team. He's spoken about how happy he is to have Meghan beside him at Invictus, yet you've turned it into her leeching off him.

I think it's quite desperate and sad of you to jump to conclusions.

Maybe he did, makes him just as pathetic! It's just an opinion posted on an anonymous forum, why would I be bothered if you think my opinion is desperate and sad? It's my opinion just as yours is yours. I'm sure though the injured veterans were privileged to meet her- I mean she's so inspirational as she...married a Prince. That's about it isn't it.

Uh, I'm in that thread and posters aren't in there endlessly whinging about whether she (or others) should be wearing polos instead.

They actually discuss, you know, style. Whether they like the outfit, colour, fit, shoes, accessories.

Quite like that thread myself!

I understand what you mean. It's a rule that you don't criticize the person but the clothes are criticized.

Roussette · 16/09/2023 15:56

Mouseflap · 16/09/2023 15:46

It's a sad life to leech off of your partners achievements and feel the need to insert yourself- as I said, desperate! Plenty of people do good things and have supportive partners who cheer them on, offer emotional and logistical support and yet still don't feel the need to centre themselves. We're all entitled to our opinions, and no I'll never understand someone so self obsessed that they feel the need to do this.

What do you actually want Meghan to do? Or not do?
Hide in a corner in the outfit Serenster suggested and not interact?
Avoid all those who want to engage with her,? Be surrounded by security who remove anyone who comes near her?
Not attend at all? (There'd be huge criticism of that and it will be said they're on the way to divorce)

I think posters want her to disappear off the face of the earth

Just get used to it, she isn't going anywhere and supporting her DH and engaging with all the wonderful competitors and their families is exactly what she should be doing
Well done Meghan

I can only pity this post and you. I hope that whatever has caused you to harbour such resentment and bitterness towards someone you have never met, improves for you and your life gets better.

🤣 maybe time for you to log off if you feel this strongly towards others who have a different opinion to you.

From the number of selfies i've seen, some are well happy to meet her, what's the problem with that?

theres no personal attacks by Roussette, if you see that you should report it. She is allowed to say her opinion too and the poster she's referring to has spent the last week repeating the same comments on multiple threads. In amongst a whole lot of positive vet stories she was repeating the same opinions she has once again shared here. SO people will comment on that negativity when it seems repetitive and disproportionate or out of place. Saying ' don't worry about it' is really quite mild so relax, and let @Roussette share her opinions too.

and there you go telling me to relax...you really don't need to!

I think it's nice she was there supporting him, it's been nice seeing photos of them enjoying eachothers company and being generally supportive. It's weird AF to be part of the parade and to be handing out medals in my opinion. As I've already said I find it weird when royals who haven't served do this also.

Maybe they will have a rest after this since they want privacy. Oh wait a minute. Meghan is writing her memoirs. Not exactly a good way to shake of media attention. But this is Harry and Meghan don't forget.

She is? When did she confirm that?

When will it be released because I can't wait to read it!

Those on here who don't think he had an abusive childhood because he was bought up in money have no idea.

Affluent abuse, which it is called is real. Money and privilege don't buy you a decent childhood. I know that for a fact as I lived it. Thank god mine was in the private arena and not public.

As for H and M responding to it. They had hundreds of thousands of articles and books written about them vilifying them.

They are allowed to respond. I bet you would. Those of you moaning about them have not sat and read Spare or watched the documentaries with an open mind.

Those I know who have been shocked
The racism in this country and the death threats to M life are real. There are interviews with the police on this

The info is our there of them being vilified, but some of you just want to hold them responsible for standing up for themselves.

You see money some of you and think they haven't had any problems. Rubbish.

As for Charles, he said far more than his childhood being cold. He was openly hostile and deogratory about his parents. Chatles affair never stopped. He was shagging Camilla the night before he married. Diana was used as a breeding machine and abused. No, she wasn't perfect. However, she was in emotional abuse. The interview she did she was conned into on a lie by Martin Bashir, which came out recently

We don't pay for H & M. They make their own money. M had her own money when she came into the RF. She was a multi millionaire in her own right.

To be blunt, some of the vile newspapers' journos have said the lies and twisted truths have come out of KP and William office. The reason: H and M were too popular here. That couldn't happen

Also, it's known that W & K marriage is in trouble, so this is another cover of making up rubbish about them.

They always knew M would leave. H wasn't supposed to go. They've never gotten over it.

As for Invictis and camera shots, very good photos and Zoom on the mobiles bring excellent shots. The Sun was spotted at Invictus this week. He ducked down out of the way fuming, he had got in.

Look at the type of people who have slated them. They are a demographic of mysogonist and right-wing racists
Piers Morgan

Jeremy Clarkson
Dan Wooton
Paul Burrell
Angela Levin
Nanaa
Nigel Farage
Eamon Holmes
Petrilina Wyatt
Richard Madely
Phillip Schofield
Danny Baker
Spencer Morgan
Lady Camilla Tominely
Carol Malone
Megan McCain
Julie Hartley-Brewer
Darren Grimes
Sarah Vine
Lord Sugar

The list goes on. I'm not saying H & M are perfect. No one is. The media who say they are irrelevant keep bringing them up. Why? Cos they are worth millions to them in clickbait.

This. Exactly. The difference between Kate and Meghan is that Meghan is no longer taxpayer funded. William, Kate and their children will be taxpayer funded for the rest of their lives, as will their grandchildren ad infinitum until the whole circus becomes too ridiculous to exist. All the press are doing is harassing a woman who is supporting her husband in his work. Royalists are all up in arms on behalf of people who do not know or care about them. The unbearable suffering of a group of people who not only have everything handed to them on a plate but think nothing of asking for more and can't even behave themselves.

Phew! Fair enough

I think they make a great charismatic team and being together at this event added to it

However she should not have marched, it would be slated so was a mistake by her/him. No problem though with the handing out medals, I think she has a warmth people like

Serenster · 16/09/2023 16:03

What do you actually want Meghan to do? Or not do?
Hide in a corner in the outfit Serenster suggested and not interact?

Just to clarify Roussette - I don’t want Meghan to do anything, personally. I’m just observing and commenting on what she herself wants to do. In relation to Invictus, it was her choice to arrive after it began, and subsequently change outfits several times a day.

This has ensured a huge amount of media attention on Meghan and her clothes. Meghan is clearly well aware that this would be the case (she has told us herself that she is aware of the nexus between clothing choices and press interest). If she wanted to minimise the coverage of her personally, she could have made different choices.

skullbabe · 16/09/2023 16:03

But they are not looking directly at the camera and grinning. They don't want their photo taken in those situations

Disagree. I have seen shots of royals head on and smiling going about their daily business. Do you not interact with and smile at people in a drive through window? Do you know how many shots a photographer takes of a subject before submitting the best one for payment? Do you think that a picture where the subject’s gaze in your direction and smiling would be more than one when they are looking away or looking miserable and serious? Do you think that in the build up to a big event where a lucrative subject will come out of relative hiding that there will be a concerted effort to get any pictures - especially if there is uncertainty as to whether that subject will attend? There are documentaries of how paparazzi photographers work out there - it might help some to watch them.

Well, Invictus 2023 has been another HUGE success, thanks to the entire team who make it happen and their sponsors, including Harry and Meghan, who this week have reminded people why so many around the world and not just at Invictus think they are FANTASTIC and love them to bits.

Yet on these boards, lots of the usual resentments, and even woeful insults, including "pair of faux marching, faux grinning wannabes", a sign of frustration at not being convincing, despite this particular poster making the same anti-H&M assertions as if they were the Gospel of Truth in 98 posts per day, every day for the past couple of months at least.

Some would have us believe that Harry and Meghan should be blasted into oblivion for everything they said or did before Invictus 2023, with the laser-sharp focus being on anything perceived as critical of the RF. The message is: "shut up, NEVER speak up about the way you have been treated by the RF, NEVER disagree with their collusion with the British tabloid/Murdoch media, NEVER have a set of perspectives of your own, put up with being called "gangsta" and "straight out of Compton" etc, OR ELSE we will shout you down wherever you go, whatever you do, whatever you say. You stay in your lane, or else we will give you an electric shock, each time you pop your head above the parapet.

Well, despite 1000000s of posts asserting that Harry and Meghan are EVIL for what they did with their Netflix series "Harry and Meghan", in Harry's EXCELLENT autobiography Spare (if you haven't read it and are pontificating on these boards, you should), and in his TV interviews and testifying in court in the trials against the British media etc, there remain TONS of people all around the world, me included, who are simply not buying it, and NEVER will as we are capable of making up our own minds independently of British tabloid/Murdoch fodder.

Repeating endlessly on these boards that Harry and Meghan "sold out their family", "are whiners", "are liars", "are whingers", and attempting to portray what is nothing but OPINION as fact, is simply not convincing, and is convincing no-one. So, we get more and more of the same (whining?), and even insults, attempting to derail threads or have them removed.

At some point, such posts are best ignored?

Brilliant post

Meghan is between attending receptions thanking sponsors and the actual competition. Clothe changes are what they are.

@Serenster that's your opinion and way off of mine because I think a woman can wear what she feels good in and comfortable in

As a retired American military officer I will have you know that The Wounded Warrior Games are not "niche." They are huge, shown on nationwide TV each year, and fully supported by the US Department of Defense. They were around well before Prince Harry or whomever came up with Invictus.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 16/09/2023 16:14

If she wanted to minimise the coverage of her personally, she could have made different choices.

Again, this is misogynistic. You are suggesting a woman changes what she wishes to wear to try and appease the press and some of the public who think they should dictate what is appropriate clothes for women to wear. They would have found another way to accuse her of trying to take attention anyway so theres no point trying to gain approval from people who will never give it to you.

I stand corrected. Harry did take it internationally though.
