... to host Invictus 2027, that is.
The cost doesn't only fall on the host city. Clearly, the fact that Birmingham's bid is supported by the UK Minister for Veteran Affairs (or something) suggests that he will line up some Ministry of Defence funding, just as, for example, the Dutch MoD co-funded IG in Den Haag, and the German Bundeswehr co-funded IG Dusseldorf.
According to Wiki, here's how the first IG in 2014 were funded:
"£500,000 of funding for the project came from the Endeavour Fund, an arm of the Royal Foundation Prince Harry had created specifically for veterans' recovery, with an equal amount being pledged by Chancellor George Osborne from Treasury funds generated by fines imposed on banks as a result of the Libor scandal.[6][8] The Games were also sponsored by Jaguar Land Rover.[5]"
Since then as I've posted upthread, Harry and his Invictus crew signed up Boeing in 2018, who have just renewed their sponsorship for another 3 years I think, and I'm sure there are other sponsors too.
And no doubt Harry, in his masses of free time between court case prep, being the patron for the 7-8 non-profits listed on sussex.com, co-writing books and other content, working for BetterUp as Chief Impact Officer, filming Heart of Invictus II (we hope!!!), monitoring the media's attacks on his family, and paying £4m/yr to keep them safe, is busy hustling to sign up more sponsors for IG in the future.
Such a lazy, self-indulgent bum! 😆
