I don't follow him, what did he do?

@Daisyislazy I hate to say it but 'Google it' as it would be a humongous derail if I linked on here.

I know!! I have never seen him in the same light since I saw that.

No, neither will I

I thought that was quite a good interview

Agreed but……..you know how it goes with anything to do with him 🤣.

Oh this was good 😂

The American reporters are genuinely confused LOL

Invictus has been going for about ten years now and has been very successful. Why does it still need H to take centre stage to get publicity? Or is it that H needs Invictus to have a platform?

Just look at their newly minted pseudo official wannabe real royal website and you may get your suspicions reinforced

Have you seen the videos of people booing them?

No. I agree they need Invictus more than Invictus needs them. Might even be a liability eventually.

Vespanest · 17/02/2024 09:41

On paper this week should have been plain sailing and I think some fault lies also on Invictus scheduling. Harry and Meghan achieved the aim of raising awareness of Invictus, I’d say extremely well, the negative part was that it brought more exposure on them, that even they probably didn’t want rather than the cause. Day 3 had a much better format of public/private timetable, had that been the approach of Day 1 & 2 there would still be backlash they are not going to escape that but not as much, basically the press trying to get photos whilst the Prince and Duchess concentrated privately with veterans is a good angle.

TallerSally · 17/02/2024 14:08

Wow, it’s been a lovely 3 days at these Invictus pre-launch events!

Nice to e-meet some of the vets and follow their training, like the Nigerian double amputee (Peacemaker) who was trying the skeleton for the first time.

As always seems to be the case with Invictus, there was a positive and strong sense of community among participants, plus the wow effect of having Harry and Megan there, “showing up and doing good”, and looking so photogenic in the process…

It was also cool that Will Reeve, the son of Christopher Reeve, was the one fronting the Good Morning America, news crew that covered the event. Besides it being a fantastic coup for Invictus to be covered by ABC News, one of the biggest news networks in the US, I’m intrigued by the Will Reeve connection.

You can understand why Harry and Will would form a natural connection, given what happened to Christopher Reeve. I wonder if Will is getting more involved with Invictus?

Anyway the whole One Year to Go event was a huge success, well done Harry, Meghan, Will and the entire Invictus team! They also got excellent coverage in the US and of course Canada.

Here’s a link to coverage of the closing gala dinner, courtesy of People again (who always have extensive and wholesome coverage of Invictus - quite the contrast vs the usual pathetic mudracking of the British media)

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Wrap Invictus Games Countdown with Glam Banquet in Vancouver

I just wanted to shout out Peacemaker Azuegbulam - he literally came and conquered - I think he’ll do great next year.

Roussette · 17/02/2024 14:21

Thanks for the round up @TallerSally

I think they nailed it in all sorts of ways. They looked like they loved being there, Harry took part in so many sports, Meghan looked fab, and Harry deftly handled an interview by keeping the focus on Invictus.

This morning I caught the tail end of one of the terrestrial cooking shows, and there was an Invictus participant on there talking food. However, he did touch on what Invictus meant to him, how it got him out of a black hole after Afghanistan, and the wonderful community Invictus is. (I must look up who he is)

I think it will be well worth watching next year, because let's face it Winter Sports are visually so impactful

Indeed!

Last year Peacemaker won Nigeria’s first Invictus gold medal. And now skeleton - the guy seems fearless! And he’s been giving pep talks at the Invictus “Beyond the Games” events, which give a sense for how Invictus helps create a year-round community of support for the vets and their entourage.

Hope we get to hear his story in Heart of Invictus season 2 (anyone heard anything there???)

Any all very inspiring!

Viviennemary · 17/02/2024 15:53

A bit more emphasis on Invictus Games and the Vets and a bit less on the Harry and Meghan Show/Grand Publicity Tour might not be a bad idea.

I hope so because I would like to really see the winter games elements!

alpine skiing, snowboarding, biathlon, Nordic skiing, skeleton and wheelchair curling

TallerSally · 17/02/2024 17:43

@pipsfromthefuture I wouldn’t have minded seeing the vets practice snowboarding.

Boarders look cool even just hanging around in the snow (their skate-inspired looks probably have something to do with it!) so I can imagine this being a fun thing for injured vets to experience!

Along with the of course less superficial Invictus experience, bien sur…

A bit more emphasis on Invictus Games and the Vets and a bit less on the Harry and Meghan Show/Grand Publicity Tour might not be a bad idea.

Surely such a good cause as the Invictus games, which has been established for almost a decade, should be able to stand on its own merits without needing Harry in the spotlight to give it publicity.

TallerSally · 18/02/2024 00:06

We love Invictus and Harry for starting and continuing to champion it!

So, according to some laughably desperate to derail this thread, Hello (and People and ABC News and Harper’s Baazar and and and) and anyone positive about H&M must all be part of the Obscure Evil Sussex Squad, as they’re full of praise for Invictus, Harry and Meghan.

tut-tut, how dare they write things like the below?

“Day three of my [reporter’s] time in Canada for the Invictus Games' One Year to Go event – and are Prince Harry and I best friends now?”

“Harry gave a speech that garnered a standing ovation, where he thanked the audience for their attendance and dedication to the games”

“During Friday's Invictus Games celebrations in Vancouver, Canada, the 48-year-old Grammy winner sang a rendition of Frank Sinatra's classic hit "My Way," complete with new lyrics that both praised the Duke of Sussex, 39, for being a "visionary"

“In the radiant atmosphere of the Invictus Games Banquet, Meghan Markle mesmerized onlookers with her fashionable elegance in a Greta Constantine gown. The event highlighted the Games' core values and its inspiring participants, while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex emphasized their dedication to the cause.”

Plenty more where those came from!

Thanks for sharing, @pipsfromthefuture and @skullbabe

WOW, JUST WOW!!

I am always trembling when I see these skeleton athletes going headfirst down a narrow icy semi-tunnel at such crazy speeds - with just a helmet on!

Feels like a slip away from tetraplegia!

Some more balanced coverage from People here, including a video of Harry hurtling down on the skeleton. Harry almost made 100km/h!

Injured veterans doing this is going to be a sight to behold. Presumably it won't be those with 'visible' injuries doing it?

Mad!

https://people.com/prince-harry-skeleton-invictus-games-training-camp-canada-meghan-markle-8583084

It's great that you have learnt that indeed people with "visible" injuries can and do take part.

Perhaps you will watch your phrases in future and avoid saying things like when talking about Invictus.

'Feels like a slip away from tetraplegia!"
