To be fair, we are oft asked by MNHQ not to engage - no matter how unfair things are with regards to objectionable posts or personal attacks but to report instead.
Recently I’ve been put off doing that too.
It doesn’t mean to say that we are all sat here thinking that every post should stand or that personal attacks are the way to go. They aren’t.
I’ll speak for myself here (but I’m sure I’m not alone) in that the ensuing pile ons or bun fights aren’t what we come on threads for.
As for missing some posts? I do this frequently. I am on MN to desperately wind down after a shift. I don’t see every post and I confess to missing great swathes of fast moving threads. If they appear in active, I might have a look in. If it is interesting and I’m not too knackered, I’ll maybe manage to read more. More often than not, I’m hanging out of my arse, having microsleeps and big ones and being pulled in every direction.
I often don’t have the time or the inclination to keep scrolling back if the same things are being said.
I am a veteran. I too found it a pity that the press went in on Harry’s comment. Not his fault granted but his story has been told a few times recently and I feel it took the spotlight away from those it should have been shining on.
Is he in pain? Has he suffered? Has he known great loss? Without doubt.
It is just that this time, it wasn’t just about him. And I feel that this wasn’t the time to speak of his pain again.
I think it would not be outwith his reasoning that the press would indeed concentrate on ‘Harry whining’ or whatever derogatory term they felt like using and I wish, just this once, he’d not said anything about his experience.
He has other platforms to talk of his trauma. Others do not.
