One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Prince William will not attend World Cup final to watch Lionesses

Prince William will be watching England's first final since 1966 on the television and will not fly to Australia to see the Lionesses compete, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

It would have been massively hypocritical to travel around the world while at the same time fronting the Earthshot project.

Except that he flies all over the world to 'front earthshot' so I think saying that this one event, a womens World Cup England were in, was too far and too many air miles when he clocks up more for earthshot alone, a supposedly environmental project, is more than a little hypocritical and weak as an excuse. As has been said on this thread, the environmental excuse isn't valid due to all the flying he already does both as a royal attending events, and in his personal life. If he's going to use this excuse for the most important womens football event, then he will be held to a much higher standard from now on with regards to other flights he decides are worth the air miles that this event was not.

Which accounts are accused of being bots? It’s a bit triggering for neurodiverse people like me ☹️

in what way? I am autistic and I don't understand this at all. The poster meant elsewhere on social anyway, I imagine twitter or whatever the flip he's calling it now... lots of bots there!

It's football, it's not going to make or break the monarchy.

Actually several posters here have remarked on the fact that criticism re PW not attending has come from usually pro-royal sectors.

I think the final could have been a PR win-win for PW, regardless of the result. As president of the FA not attending was a mistake IMO, but he could have turned that around by looking more involved and interested in his communications about why he couldn't go.

Women's football at the moment is the can't-go-wrong bandwagon to jump on but PW has managed to mess it up. A missed opportunity. It has made him look out of touch even for some who genuinely like him.

Zoom would've sufficed just fine. Video links are lovely. Think of the environment even if Harold doesn't.

He does not need to come here <it's soooo unsafe remember>, not see his horrid family but revel in the last remaining crumbs of Royal VIP status he has, dressed up as representing charities.

Bear in mind he flew commercial last time he attended this, I don't understand your point.

Well... I do actually... you think he should have dumped his charity he had supported for 14 years. Got it. I admire him for keeping his support for them. As I say, your post is just mean spirited.
I don't see how carrying on with something they really value (yes they have said so), and means a lot to him is crumbs of Royal VIP status given that it is very low key. As you could see on the Youtube videos.

What his horrid family have to do with it, god alone knows. (horrid family - your words)

No bots on mn apparently @PrincessTigger

But this was also posted. Not sure which posters it’s about. Maybe pp can clarify

Though yes I’ve long suspected certain groups do attempt to act in unison here

In interviews Harry always called him William or Will. Wombat was reported in the press, and Wills was a tabloid invention I think. I just meant out of nowhere we suddenly heard this new nickname we’ve never ever heard before for his brother that he’s fallen out with that just so happens to be a rude word. Which is why I take it with a pinch of salt.

I don't think 'Wills' was a tabloid invention. If you find footage of Charles and Diana in Australia with baby William crawling to the edge of the big blanket I think Charles called him 'Wills' then. I'll give 50p to the RNLI if I'm wrong on that.

Speaking of batshittery’…

'batshittery'.
Indeed. William giving Jason an honour and having him currently working for the board of his foundation, Earthshot. Presumably Jason's not available to deflect and distract at the moment due to other difficulties.

Jason's friend and the person he fed stories to, Dan Wooton/Martin Branning now under investigation for his own behaviour.

William not the first royal male in recent history to have kept questionable company.

I thought maybe they meant me because I’ve been told my posts sound like that before

oh have you? That is weird because your posts absolutely don't resemble any such thing to me, its quite clear you're a real person :)

Novella4 · 24/08/2023 12:44

@CloudyMcCloudy

was your post aimed at me ?

If you read my post correctly I didn’t say the bots were on MN.
The clumsy cut and paste bots I saw must have been a rush job which I point to as a sign that the ‘royals’ - well Willys camp anyway- C and C will have been loving it - were rattled .
Bots on MN are another issue . I haven’t seen cut and paste .

But the issue I refer to - and I was trying to be careful as I don’t know how it ended- was a few months ago someone pointed out that several usernames were using a colour and there was a Facebook ( people still use Facebook?) royalist group with the same colour in the name .

Im not sure what the outcome was. There much outraged denial anyway.

Women's football at the moment is the can't-go-wrong bandwagon to jump on but PW has managed to mess it up. A missed opportunity. It has made him look out of touch even for some who genuinely like him.

these pro royal sectors have also criticised William in the past, such as the tour in the Caribbean, not being overly friendly to the press, and these same pro royal press have even outright stated their preference for Harry over william back when Harry was the more popular royal. William has been criticised far worse than this football incident, and it still didn’t make a dent to his popularity in the long run.

As an Australian, I don’t think we would have appreciated william coming here just to watch the Lionesses play especially when they beat the Matildas. Also, I can only imagine the controversy this would have generated regarding paying for royal security if all he’s going to be doing here is to watch the game. We have a pro republican prime minister and the cost of living and the quality of life here is getting worse. I bet William and his advisors would have considered the optics of this because it would have caused far greater controversy if he had come here at this time just to watch a game and do nothing else.

William will be criticised regardless of what he does in this situation. The question i think is whether he chose the lesser damage to himself and the monarchy and I think in this he made the right choice. He also has videos showing his support for the Lionesses. However, those are conveniently ignored as they go against the narrative that William doesn’t care.

the best he can do in this situation is not to act like harry. He needs to remain calm, ignore the noise, and it will eventually die down. The same pro royal media will go back to praising him again eventually. This isn’t a serious crisis that will ruin the monarchy if they don’t respond to the controversy. it’s a football game.

Sorry but not all reporters act like Omid scobie. Dan wooton has nothing to do with William and Jason Knauf. Your conspiracy theories are a perfect example of what you call batshittery. This is every bit as bad as the anti sussex posters who come up with fake pregnancies and fake babies.

@MamoruHisaishi Totally agree with you another the Australian perspective on this.

Yahoo is a tabloid now? Since when?

Also, there's plenty of news articles going on 7 days now, so take your pick of reading if the above doesn't suit you, or your needs.

MrsFinkelstein · 24/08/2023 15:39

Since always 🤨

I've read plenty and I still don't give a toss. It's the usual English habit of losing their heads when football and the World Cup are involved.

As a Scot its humorous to observe.

queentim · 24/08/2023 15:44

That's nice for you that you don't give a toss. Then why are you here commenting?

(But, now I know news stories don't matter, I'll be sure to bookmark and self-quote you whenever I see you comment on a thread with a news story, especially tabloid. Just to help you remain consistent 😊)

jeffgoldblum · 24/08/2023 16:02

The article isn't by yahoo, it's by daily beast !
And if i posted some of the crap they wrote about h and m , heads would explode!

The telegraph article was already posted pages ago and roundly discussed, and I'm not sure that the Toronto star is entirely relevant!
But you do you .

queentim · 24/08/2023 16:18

Yes, as I said. Wide and varied sources. Whether posted or not, they're out there because people think it's a role-related issue to be discussed.

Ah, the opinions coming from Commonwealth Realms not relevant.
