One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Prince William will not attend World Cup final to watch Lionesses

Prince William will be watching England's first final since 1966 on the television and will not fly to Australia to see the Lionesses compete, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

I lived near Nirwich Airport at the time. The furore wasn't about that at all. It was because an empty plane had to be flown to Norwich airport to fly them to Aberdeen Airport, just after Meghan and Harry had been criticised for flying by private jet. So they had an rooty plane grown to a tiny airport just so that William could get one over on his brother.

No, that’s not the case. The Wales’ family booked on a scheduled Flybe flight going from Norwich to Aberdeen. After booking, the airline were advised that the party who had made the booking were the Wales, and so they’d need to arrange for standard security protocols (i.e. they are seated at the font of the plane and board last etc).

When Flybe found that out the airline arranged for an empty plane to be flown to the airport on the day in question because they wanted the family to be on a Flybe branded plane rather than the codeshare plane that was scheduled to fly that route that day. Flybe later admitted this, and that the Wales’ family had no idea that this had happened.

Been working all day so just catching up. It's gratifying women's football is now cared about so so deeply.

Interestingly I've noted on SM more and more people commenting that the hysterical overreaction to William not going is just that. More and more people saying its ridiculous and unnecessary.

Well done people - keep up the good work, it's all starting to backfire as it often does with the critics.

MrsFinkelstein · 21/08/2023 20:49

@Serenster , c'mon, stop with the actual facts. You should be twisting yourself into a pretzel coming up with new ways to criticise.

I look forward to next summer to hear everyone saying how essential and necessary it is that Catherine attends Wimbledon.

He’s not a “no flying” sort but he is a “reasonable flying” sort

It’s ridiculous when people think everything William does is to get at Harry.

Harry’s obviously badly hurt over many things regarding his relationship with his brother going back decades based on the things he wrote in Spare. Not being included at school, not being invited to dinner enough once married. Constant comparisons and the lesser role not just of a younger brother but of not being the primary heir. It’s legitimately sad and understandable.

But no evidence that his brother spent that much time competing with him at all. I think that is part of the hurt - not being seen as an equal.

To be fair William is what mn calls the golden child. So he never had to compete as he was always golden

That's exactly what I mean. It's a common sibling deal. Roles are laid out by others, but both end up suffering from it.

I do think a younger brother naturally spends more time thinking about their older brother than the reverse, too. Isn't that the stick by which many of them measure themselves? The deck was stacked from the beginning especially in this case. They can't both become King.

Serenster · 21/08/2023 21:06

CathyorClaire even that article says William was practising takeoff and landings - something he’d be doing anyway, he just chose to do it in the Middleton’s back garden.

I used to go out with a pilot and so know very well that they have a certain number of flying hours they must reach when training and maintain thereafter. william was training as a helicopter pilot so he was required to fly certain hours. Granted, William was taking the mickey where he did it - doubtless relying on the fact that, like his brother, he’d get a free pass to do things that others wouldn’t get away with - but the flying itself is not the problem.

(and on this topic - the posters who are lauding Harry for attending the 2019 Rugby World Cup Final - he did that because he was patron of the RFU. But he never once attended the Women’s Rugby World Cup Final, despite the England team being in every single final since 2002 and winning it in 2014).

She loves tennis and would want to be there.

Please Serenster take this in the spirit in which it is meant, which is not being rude or condescending.

Your first sentence made me 🤣😂.

My DH trained as a pilot decades ago just before he met me, but it lapsed. I am just imagining him landing in my back garden to take me out on a date!

You have to admit it does sounf a bit ridiculous and off the wall him doing this, and getting away with it! The life of the royals!

Iwantcakeeveryday · 21/08/2023 21:17

Prince Harry was Patron of the RFU from 2016. Taking over from the Queen. He was vice patron before that.

CathyorClaire · 21/08/2023 21:19

Granted, William was taking the mickey

Thank you for summing it up nicely 😎

No one needs to say it as she's always there! I think she's maybe missed one Wimbledon in her 12 years as a royal, and that was due to being heavily pregnant.

Serenster · 21/08/2023 21:21

As I said - he was clearly taking the mickey!

Ummm a female friend of mine who is in the process of getting her helicopter licence has landed twice in our front field, not sure it’s that crazy.

Actually I didn’t and I don’t appreciate it when you take me out of context. For anybody who cba to scroll I put “ugh, fine” as in “considering, yes that’s ok”. Quite different, I hope you agree!

Half of the hand shake people could’ve stayed at home including the Spanish Queen. James Cleverly - not needed. Touchy feely Spanish FA President - definitely should’ve stayed at home and sat on his hands. Random US coach (why??) no idea why she was there. Anthony Albanese - ugh, fine. Every other tournament doesn’t have a hand-shaking mob on the pitch.

I’m pretty sure I’ve included ‘context’ here.’ The full sentence you wrote “Anthony Albanese-ugh, fine.” I don’t think I took that sentence out of context actually. I think now maybe you can see why I’m wondering why you needed to include the ‘ugh’ in relation to the PM’s name and why I’d think the ‘ugh’ was directed at Albanese alone. He is the (football loving) Prime Minister of the hosting country - it would be strange if he wasn’t there. I was curious.

And if you watch football a few times you’ll find - at these finals, at least in Australia, it’s the usual for the field to be absolutely packed after a game with officials, pollies, princes and players and often, players’ children . Not sure why you seem so put out by this. Is it because William was so obviously absent?

vera99 · 21/08/2023 21:23

One leftfield thought that occured to me today is that these hair growth miracle cures that can cure baldness however expensive obviously don't work, or the two brothers would have a full head.

If you have a field, probably not.

I had a mental picture of my back garden. That was crazy

It's like gardening if you like doing it doesn't count as work. So one could argue that should come out from her hour count. Same with Princess Anna and horses.

Where was he for the 2017 final then? England was in that, and it was played in Belfast.

Harry also attended at least two men’s World Cup Final matches before 2016 too - he’s a big rugby fan. Not of the women’s team though, it seems.

Judging by the latest BetterUp puff, Harold's a shoe-in for a 'Mane' gig.

I had to look it up - ut probbaly runs though if you sweat which ecxplains why only Prince Andrew gets away with it.

How patronising. I’m surprised that your meticulous record keeping of my previous posts doesn’t include all the ones where I’ve talked about my love of football.

You deliberately excluded the word “fine” in order to mislead other posters about what I’d written.
