One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Prince William will not attend World Cup final to watch Lionesses

Prince William will be watching England's first final since 1966 on the television and will not fly to Australia to see the Lionesses compete, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

@AliceOlive
I don't understand your post or who you are talking about

Harry + Better Up. I didn't jump on the bandwagon when others were questioning his value with respect to that org Same with the Foundation; I defend the hell out of that while others are quoting nonsense about the tax filing saying they only work one hour a week, suggesting it's a tax loophole, they are profiting, etc.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 21/08/2023 19:04

If nobody cares if William attends things... maybe there is no point to any of the royal family being President or Patron or whatever else bullshit titles they have to connect themselves to 'work' and 'service'.

asterdaisy · 21/08/2023 19:05

@derxa total srawmanning.
I am not stupid. It is shorthand for each country in Britain.
You really want me to write out we only want him to attend the cup final if Scotland, wales or England are in the final? I deliberately left out n Ireland as I don't know if they would welcome his presence or not.
Maybe stop treating us all as thick just because we dare to criticise the royal family?

It is the obvious conclusion to what lots of Williams supporters are arguing.

This thread is not about Harry. And he is not funded by the taxpayer. That's all I will say on that.

skullbabe · 21/08/2023 19:07

As for Geoff Hurst he's always bashing gums.

See - it was critical as this poster who is criticising some of us for talking about this has acknowledged. 😉

asterdaisy · 21/08/2023 19:09

Harry may be of no real value to some organisations. Who cares. They are paying for him so make their own judgement call.

He may well be funded in part by my taxes. I am sure many of these ventures received covid dollars. But I don't care or try to guess about his value or how many hours he's clocking.

My point is that GH is now a talking head who has a talk tour. A little bit of controversy won't do ticket sales any harm

skullbabe · 21/08/2023 19:13

The point is that it was a criticism which some people seemed to be insistent that is was not.

I will say again... he is not a working member of the RF nor paid for by the British taxpayer.

They are paying for their own security, where they live, their children's education... everything. So discussing how many hours he is working or his value, as you put it, really is irrelevant.

derxa · 21/08/2023 19:13

If we're talking about Harry, he arranged his wedding on the day of the FA Cup and William couldn't attend😉

skullbabe · 21/08/2023 19:16

Anyway looking forward to the Lionesses coming home - hopefully we’ll have a celebration. Maybe the President of the FA can host them with a summer welcome home party?

That's not at all what I was indicating. He said someone from the family should have been there. That doesn't mean only William would have suited. He didn't "bash William", he answered a question saying, yes, they should have had someone representing them there.

I understand he's rather outspoken. I am quite certain if he meant that "William really should have attended". Even had he said that, it's not the controversy some here seem to hope. It would be a fair statement. But the bashing is absolutely not fair.

AnnunciataZ · 21/08/2023 19:19

The problem with all this PW hoohah is that it has detracted from the women's great achievement. And that's why I keep saying that you wouldn't be going on about it if you cared about football

Astoundingly, some of us are able to hold an opinion on or care about more than one topic at a time.

Well, yes. And guessing at William's is also.

This is all a bit like people in the US who tell the public servants "I pay your salary".

Quite a few wouldn't even be aware of this if it didn't involve William.

It’s almost like people can walk and chew gum at the same time 😂

You are more than welcome to submit a FOIA request for information of the the use of COVID funds released to businesses by your government. British taxpayers have no such freedoms when it comes to the Royal Family. And are unable to assess whether there are reviving back for their buck so to speak - rights which are happily enjoyed in your country to assess people who are paid for with public money.

Regardless - this is about a Royal Family member’s role as President of the FA which is unpaid. And why in that role he did not attend a women’s World Cup final in which his team was playing. And although many are minimising the importance of this - football mania is inescapable in this country, there is no two ways about it and it would be inconceivable in the men’s game for the President to not attend. I’ve noticed one excuse was simply that he said that wasn’t going to be able to attend earlier in the summer - this is not acceptable. He should have found a way. If it was important to him.

I will never ever get used to or feel comfortable with, people who read a book while walking down the street. I saw it in the mornings mostly, going to the station, reading a book. I get its an efficient use of transport time but its just... wrong.

LimeCheesecake · 21/08/2023 19:33

Yes @Iwantcakeeveryday - you are right. If there’s no need or benefit to Royals other than the monarch being patrons of organisations, if their attendance at events and visits to organisations adds no value - what the fuck do we have working Royals for?

why are we paying anything for their upkeep? Why do they have staff they’ve not paid for out of their own pockets (with money they’ve earned)? If they add no value, why aren’t they all self funding?

Harry is self funding now. You might not agree with how he earns his cash, but the British do not fund him. Yet he still does some charity work where he can add value, but he gets to pick and choose what he does. So if we are to treat William the same, then why are we funding him and his family?

If he wants to be lazy, fine- stop being officially a working royal until time comes to step up to be King. Apparently there’s no benefit to it anyway and totally fine he does very little.

I am not the one concerned with it and making judgements about it.
If one is going to do that, they should have facts.

i very true
i was replying to a post that sounded like they knew the answer

LimeCheesecake · 21/08/2023 19:36

And harry flew commercial for the men’s rugby World Cup final in 2019. He also had young child, it’s definitely comparable.

And when your work ethic and commitment to the royal family looks shit in comparison to Harry time to have a long hard look at yourself.
