One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Prince William will not attend World Cup final to watch Lionesses

Prince William will be watching England's first final since 1966 on the television and will not fly to Australia to see the Lionesses compete, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

It would be a shock if anyone of the frequent posters on this board who often criticize William here had said “Well, maybe he had a good reason.”

Tell me what it is, and I'll listen

He had a fantastic reason

It doesn't really matter what anyone here says. There are lots of people who think it was wrong of William not to go. The lies about he couldn't go before Charles had visited just made it worse.
The royal family need public support. William either does not have a good ear for public opinion or does not care. I don't know which it is, but it is not serving him well.

asterdaisy · 21/08/2023 18:31

@Ivyusername shame it does not affect the very frequent use of his helicopter

Because people go on holiday? Most of Europe has been on holiday all month. Loads of people…

Williams whole life is a holiday! He's been on holiday since July then will have a month off at Christmas a month at Easter and every half term off. The Wales have the absolute worst record of work of the whole family even though the work is not onerous and they counted going to their own grandmother's funeral as 'work'. People have been on a couple of weeks' leave from their jobs. Williams job is to represent the English FA at an World Cup final. He didn't do it because he didn't want to interrupt his 2 month holiday. It could have been arranged weeks or even months ago.

Roussette · 21/08/2023 18:31

I don't know why he could not have flown commercial. What a great message that would've given out.

So the environmental reasons don't wash with me when he used helicopters like we use a bus

Ummm... so? I went there last year and managed it and I am decades older than William!

And I know someone who is 75 and went out there for five days for an urgent reason. And managed it.

Honestly, he's only 41 !!!

Yes I agree with you. Environmental reasons would have merit if he didn't live the life he leads, take lots of flights elsewhere, including helicopters, and have 3 homes. It's not a consistent position.

I honestly don't think it's an appropriate position for him and I would expect any Pres of the FA to be in attendance during the Wc.

This. He could have gone with James Cleverly or the Spanish Royals or first class on a scheduled flight, as he always pretends to do when there is a photo opportunity in it. He just couldn't be arsed.

Completely agree. I am astonished that some people actually did go all that way just to stand awkwardly and shake people’s hands. I didn’t see a single Lioness who was pleased to see James Cleverly after a 24h flight.

Roussette · 21/08/2023 18:37

He would be looked after magnificently on commercial because it's kudos for the airline.

Just imagine how much different the headlines would be if he had organised this weeks ago, then released a statement saying he is flying scheduled to Australia because he would not miss this chance for anything.

PrincessTigger · 21/08/2023 18:37

By the way the job of the President of the FA is not actually just to watch football… he doesn’t go to every national game or final. That would be impossible!

I’m not convinced you actually know what he does on a day-to-day basis.

He was shipped in at the last minute because of the furore over W's absence. So.... hardly surprising.

I recall complaints that they flew commercially giving undue favor to one airline over another.

Come on.... admit it... this is a bit different, you have to agree with that.

A Women's World Cup Final is not any old game, is it...

AliceOlive · 21/08/2023 18:41

Roussette · 21/08/2023 18:38

I don’t, therefore I do not try to guess if they are being productive just for the sake of criticizing them.

Nor do I call anyone else lazy just because I don’t know what they do all day. Or jump to conclusions about the appropriateness of the salary they draw.

Serenster · 21/08/2023 18:42

Totally. I think I've said that already. He's getting a roasting on this. Why could he, along with his PR team, not have predicted this.

If someone said to me two weeks ago, William had decided not to go... I would've said, that'll go down like a lead balloon. Don your tin hat W. 😂

Genuinely though, if William had a good reasons for not being able to go (I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt here because the FA had publicly stated they had always known he couldn’t make it - something he’s very unlikely to make up weeks before when it’s not even in issue) then he’s obviously just taking the media storm on the chin. Presumably because whatever his reason was for not going, it hadn’t changed, and he wasn’t about to scramble to try and change his decision.

He’s going to be in the public eye and be criticised his entire life. This isn’t his first roasting and 100% won’t be his last. Imagine how much worse it would be if he was constantly having to second guess himself and was flip flopping around trying to avoid bad press.

They wouldn't get criticism for using BA.

The only criticism I recall, quite rightly, was them flying on Flybe... and to enable that, an empty plane had to be sent to them, thereby completely destroying the idea they were saving the planet by flying commercial ! That was an embarrassing faux pas

He didn’t go to a football final. It’s hardly worthy of the furor here.

He went to the Women’s Euro final last year.

It was said they were giving press to one airline over others.
