One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Willy was caught out badly but next time it could be something completely different

Not sure why you keep saying this when several of us have said we do indeed watch football.

People who have form for constantly criticizing the RF are just jumping on a bandwagon based on a headline or two.

It doesn't make me happy... makes me frustrated and irritated that his advisers and PR team could not have foretold what would happen. And advised him accordingly.

I think this is one of those quirks between British and American English where Americans don’t pick up on severity in British turns of phrase occasionally.

So... just say there are posters on here that know everything about football, their kids play it, they have a favourite team they support and attend matches, and they are pissed off W didn't go... is that OK.

It's nothing to do with knowledge of football is it. It's about a Royal, a President of the FA not attending a World Cup final. Why does anyone have to be a football expert to find it a bit off.

Do you understand the role of the FA and its mission?

Some will be annoyed because of the fact its a women's event and as we know women have been left out of sport, and get paid less, supported less than the men. That's also another valid reason to criticise this, from a feminist perspective. You do not need to be an avid football fan to criticise this.

Cakey? Please don't. I have a valid criticism and we are entitled to our opinions of him without these kind of comments from you.

My DP Whois an avid football fan and knows nothing about the royal family said how wrong this was.
And yes I understand the role of the FA and that the president should be at the cup final when our country is playing in it.

Justify why the President of that Organisation chose to go on holiday instead of attending a WWC.

If someone is going to criticize it, they should have enough awareness of the context to know about it without reading it in the daily mail, in my opinion.

Easy enough to read a headline and take a position. Even easier if your position is based on your already formed biases against the person you are judging.

Because people go on holiday? Most of Europe has been on holiday all month. Loads of people…

^^ This. My DH is a massive obsessive fan of football, ridiculously so. He's the guy who used to watch Teletext for hours! He supports a team that is very important to him from where he was born, and another one that means a lot... basically I can't talk to him on a Saturday afternoon!
He thought it was pathetic he didn't go.
