One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Prince William will not attend World Cup final to watch Lionesses

Prince William will be watching England's first final since 1966 on the television and will not fly to Australia to see the Lionesses compete, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

And Charlotte is looking at him reproachfully and saying Daddy, this is your fault. We could have gone. You know how much I love Milo and TimTams

Iwantcakeeveryday · 20/08/2023 13:04

Oh dear. Congrats Spain. Well done. Gutted though.

QueenOfHertz · 20/08/2023 13:05

And Kate’s saying Fcssake Wills, you could all have gone there’s still two weeks left of the summer holidays and I’ve run out of crayons and Super Mario games can you hang out the washing the pegs are in the side lovely, thanks.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 20/08/2023 13:05

You know well done to our girls for getting in the final. That's a huge achievement.

William could give them each an acre of land to apologise for not going 😉

Novella4 · 20/08/2023 13:07

@Hippyhippybake

lol are you serious??

Where have you been ?

PrincessTigger · 20/08/2023 13:08

All the people who were so up in arms about which men were there and not there didn’t even watch!

Nono22972 · 20/08/2023 13:09

The Lionesses worked so hard to get to the finals. They should be proud of themselves.

Hopefully, the backlash he's getting will make William reflect and finally take his role seriously

It’s interesting to see that after just one long haul flight to watch a football game Queen Laetizia is held up as a great example of a Monarch. If the British Royal Family had had the same level of corruption/ nepotism/ bribery scandals that the Spanish Royals have had in recent years I doubt we would still have a monarchy.

Actual facts never seem to get in the way of putting the boot in to the RF

The reasons change on a daily basis and are never actually consistent but that doesn't seem to matter.

Yes, let's get the Spanish RF in - heads would actually explode if our RF had even a smidgen of the scandals the Spaniards have had 🤣

Iwantcakeeveryday · 20/08/2023 13:02

@Angrycat2768 yeah my husband is a big fan of the England women's and he is saying the same, Spain are super fit and just faster. It's their first final too right?

Yes it's their first final too. I'm not sure if it's genetics, but all the Latino teams just look super fit and wily compared to the English, men and women. Even though they are all athletes and clearly all super fit. It's not like English players are eating all the pies! But well done England women. Women were banned from playing by the FA the last time the England mens team were in a World Cup final.

Please link to scandal of any sort about Queen Letizia. There isn't any. Ditto King Felipe.

Yes, ex King Juan Carlos was appalling in very many ways. Financial wrongdoings, affairs, a secret child etc.

King Felipe has renounced all of his disgraced Father's inheritance.
I don't think anything can be levelled at the current King and Queen

Unless you know different of course...

Juan Carlos was also big mates of Charles and Di. The boys went on holiday with them regularly.

What scandals of financial wrongdoing or bribery can be levelled at the Prince & Princess of Wales?

The M.O. here appears to be the whole family are tarred with the same brush.

How do you know who here watched? I watched and can type at the same time.

Hippyhippybake · 20/08/2023 13:21

Also the King of Spain’s sister and husband also. I’m not saying QL has done anything wrong at all just that the Spanish Royal Family as a whole has been involved in a hell of a lot of scandals on a level that is off the scale. I very much doubt the monarchy would have survived it all.

Where have I said anything remotely like that about K&W?

I was just answering a post about the current King and Queen of Spain whilst acknowledging the appalling wrongdoings of the ex King.

MrsFinkelstein · 20/08/2023 13:22

The Lionesses should be rightfully proud of themselves and all their achievements over the past few years.

Spain just outclassed them on the night - the Spanish team are hugely talented and have an utterly phenomenal track record the past 2 years. U17s World Champions, U20s World Champions and now Senior Champions.

Both teams did their countries proud. Its a shame petty arguments overshadowed the event. The Press should be ashamed and the people who fall for it Every. Single. Time.

Agree, maybe the “see, women’s events aren't as important as men’s events” people need to look inward.

Lionesses accepted their silver medals with grace and dignity too. Lesson for the men's team.

@MrsFinkelstein

There was nothing to ‘fall for’

Facts:

Willy didn’t go . He’s president of the football Association and this is the first sniff of a win on the world stage in over 50 years.

He didn’t go because :

Hes lazy
Hes misogynistic
Hes afraid of being booed

Take your pick

Serenster · 20/08/2023 13:35

Of course there are. No public figure with a vociferous group of people who will find fault with whatever they do can escape that.

There’s a reason why Letizia no longer wears her engagement ring, for example (it was paid for by Felipe’s brother in law, the one’s who now in jail). She had a public argument with her mother in-law too. And sent supportive texts to her “yoga mate” who was a banker involved in a fraud. None of those went down well in Spain.

derxa · 20/08/2023 13:38

Queen Letizia is certainly milking this. I thought she was going to stand in the middle holding the trophy.

Serenster · 20/08/2023 13:38

Or, he had other commitments which meant a short-notice trip to the other side of the world was not feasible.

And given the CEO of the FA has publicly stated that William told them all long before the tournament started that he wouldn’t be able to make the final if they were in it, the option you deliberately didn’t mention looks the most likely.

Gosh. Her fault on the engagement ring ?😮😮
Really? And choosing not to wear it is a bad thing?
A tad scraping of the barrel here I would say
But no problem if you think all that was beyond scandalous. Your opinion

But of course Roussette if Prince Andrew had paid for Kate’s engagement ring no-one on this board would have had a single word to say about it, I am sure….

(And I didn’t say these bothered me, I said they didn’t go down well in Spain. Which is absolutely the truth. So I find your condescending post unwarranted.)

I do apologise if you find my post was condescending.

I thought saying to someone no problem and they are entitled to their opinion was a good thing!

What do I know....🙁
