One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Prince William will not attend World Cup final to watch Lionesses

Prince William will be watching England's first final since 1966 on the television and will not fly to Australia to see the Lionesses compete, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

It's amazing to see how many anti RF MNers are also ardent football fans and hold very strong opinions about who should be the president of the FA. Who knew?

And they all know all about how he spends his days and what his various roles actually involve! It’s incredible!

We put the hours in on thankless 'research' in the nether regions of the internet whilst wearing appropriate PPE instead of doing household chores that desperately need doing. Couldn't they have sent Andrew he has a lot of time on his hands....

Nono22972 · 20/08/2023 10:47

We are constantly told in paid for polls that Willy is popular. He isn’t .

Charles has more about him than Willy in terms of warmth and personality.

Willy doesn’t have the personality for the role and must know it . He clearly isn’t interested in people

Thank you! I've criticised Charles a lot over the years. I think he can be a shady character but one thing you can't take away from him is his work ethic and he does seem to care a lot more about his job. All 4 children of the Queen emulated her work ethic. The numbers don't like. I don't know what happened with this generation of royals. Both Charles and Diana were extremely hardworking but William (and Harry to an extent). Maybe, too cuddled after Diana's death. Charles is apparently non confrontational so they're probably missing a Prince Philip type character who would be brutally honest with everyone.

With William, he always seem like he wanted to run away from the responsibilities. I think he and Kate have been spoiled too much during Elizabeth's reign. The fact that the future King only became a full-time working royal in his late 30s is an absolute joke.

I think he sees the life of his aristo friends: rich, privileged, no media scrutiny, no responsibilities and this is what he wants, deep down.

This is Telegraph code for disgusted of Tunbridge Wells wants you to get off your arse and do some work and preserve the Institution for the good of the Establishment.

The Prince’s decision not to travel has been put in stark relief by the expected attendance of Queen Letizia of Spain.
Critics have suggested that he almost certainly would have travelled had England’s men reached the final.
Gabby Logan, the sports broadcaster, said she is “disappointed” that William will not be attending the final.
Appearing on BBC’s Newscast, Ms Logan was asked her thoughts on both the Prince and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak not travelling to cheer on the Lionesses.
The 50-year-old said: “I have to say I’m disappointed that Prince William isn’t going with his role at the FA and the history that is going to happen and be created on Sunday, one way or the other.
“I just wonder would neither of those people come to a men’s World Cup final, would Britain not be represented by at least one of those two figures at a men’s World Cup and I can’t help thinking that they would be there.
“I don’t know what prior engagements that can’t be moved or if there’s something that’s enormously important that is getting in the way of this, but it does feel like we should have somebody of national (importance).”
On Friday Lord Vaizey, the former Tory culture minister, said it was “unthinkable” that the pair would not attend a World Cup final in which England men were playing.
William had visited the England training ground at St George’s Park to meet the Lionesses before they left for Australia.

‘Unthinkable’ that Prince of Wales and PM would miss England men in World Cup final

Ed Vaizey, ex-culture minister, has added fuel to fire engulfing duo’s decision not to travel to women’s showpiece on Sunday

I have nothing against Kate going to Wimbledon or any of the others with their commitment to a sport
Just very jealous of Kate going to any match she wants as I am public ballot year after year with little luck of managing to get tickets!

I don't CARE whether W goes to Oz, not being a footie fan myself. I just find it absolutely extraordinary they ...the PR advisers..don't work harder at maximising every opportunity. God knows the RF need it. I could've predicted the bad publicity on this.
If I could, why couldn't they?

Why not open up one of the palaces or grounds for youngsters from inner city football clubs to watch it on big screens with W and K and kids there? What a missed opportunity.

It's the hypocrisy on here I can't stand. MN as a rule hates football Also when any royal supports a sporting activity it's criticised. Kate goes to Wimbledon - how dare she. Kate has a knockabout with Emma Raducanu - how dare she. Anne flies to Italy to support the Scottish rugby team - how dare she. Zara does well at three day eventing - oh it's only because she's well off.
Most of you wouldn't recognise any of the England Women's team.

I don't think I've ever seen Anne criticised on here for anything. And Zara is a talented equestrian but it's not criticism to say her wealth and connections have given her access to facilities and opportunities others wouldn't have had. It's a fact! As for Kate, she's the Wimbledon president so why wouldn't she go? I can't recall any "how dare she go to the tennis" threads on MN.

Nobody needs to be a fan of football to criticise the President of the Ass for not attending the womens final. Royals are meant to work for our money, and we can criticise them if we want to.

Thinking about November 2, 2019, when Prince Harry got on the plane to the other side of the world to watch England play in the rugby finals, despite having a 6-month-old baby and getting hourly abuse from his family, his country and the UK media. No wonder #workshywilliam is trending on twitter !

William missed a trick when he stamped his feet over Harry and refused to let them be second tier/part time working royals. He let his personal spat get in the way of what should have been a business decision.

Harry could have picked up all the stuff William couldn't be bothered with such as women's football and just about anything which required a bit of effort. The kind of role Anne always performed but maybe at a lower level of intensity.

The Doolittles have done remarkably little in their working royal roles. As two healthy adults with the best of everything by way of support and help they look pisspoor compared to Anne and her siblings.

Even the much vaunted children's playground in Windsor is a money making scheme which will do nothing for the disadvantaged children of Windsor.

The actual players are fine with him. He does take an interest. Did you watch the Euros final? I bet you didn't

Yes I did thanks, not that it’s any business of yours.

Although to be fair I’m not the president of the FA, so it is less insulting should I choose not to show an interest.

You would be a brilliant poacher turned gamekeeper inside the tent spotting where the brickbats were going to come from. So successful would you be you would have to consider the MN optics of accepting a CBE for services to the monarchy which by doing had saved it from post-Elizabeth oblivion.

But you would get those Wimbledon tickets....

Yes, this.

I'm not bothered about him going in person purely because I don't want to be helping foot the extensive costs that would be involved but there is literally no reason he couldn't be present at a large screen showing anywhere of his choice in the UK.

And blaming his PR team is a cop out. He does as he likes.

He doesn't like this.

“Among all the different, riotous emotions coursing through my brother that afternoon, one really jumped out at me. He seemed aggrieved. He seemed put upon that I wasn’t meekly obeying him, that I was being so impertinent as to deny him, or defy him, to refute his knowledge, which came from his trusted aides. There was a script here and I had the audacity not to be following it. He was in full Heir mode, and couldn’t fathom why I wasn’t dutifully playing the role of the Spare.”

Prince Andrew’s royal Aussie tour visited by a single diehard fan

Prince Andrew’s trip to Australia has occured with little fanfare and almost no media coverage, due to intense media scrutiny over the Duke of York’s friendship with dead paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Buckingham Palace ordering the BBC not to broadcast footage of Queen Letizia because he's ashamed it will make the British royals look bad in comparison is just shameful and shocking.

The royals have so much power and control over the British media and politics (all those exemptions from laws), it's like North Korea.

Remember William threatening Krishnan Guru-Murthy with false arrest to cover up his secret political meetings in Scotland?

Shameful.

The whole pack of them are nothing but lazy, entitled grifters.

The BBC aren’t in charge of the live footage though? the pictures are all streamed from the one set up - which is obviously the Australian broadcaster…

Why is it hypocrisy to expect the chair of the English FA to support the English team in the biggest tournament of their lives? It's not our job to know the names of the England women's team. It is Williams. If he doesn't want to do the job, give it to someone who does. England is the only national team with a Royal Head, and he can't be bothered to go!
