It’s a non- story that highlights bigger story.
Many in the establishment have paid lip service to viewing woman’s sport as equally valid to men’s, yet when the woman’s team have made it to the final of the World Cup for football - the national sport - they all have failed to show up. It’s too much bother, and no it wouldn’t be for the men’s game. plays into a general story of woman’s issues being officially important, but then not really when it becomes tricky. (Misogyny is still not a hate crime. Too tricky apparently, too ingrained like racism and homophobia haven’t been ingrained in our society.)
Then there’s the other big story of the Royals in a modern country. What is their role? If it’s not for ceremonial representing the people at the world stage while not being alined to a political party, what is the point of the working royals who aren’t the monarch? Particularly since William and Kate don’t seem to work as much as the previous generation of working Royals did. if we are funding them because they’ll work raising money and awareness of issues, then it’s perfectly valid to question how much work they do for that funding.
As we are no longer funding Harry and Meghan, there is a comparison available. As they are still doing the Invictus and some other charity work /environmental campaigning between paid work, are we getting value for money from funding William and Kate - are they doing significantly more for us to justify them not having to self fund?
We are funding a significant number of office and admin staff for William and Kate- is that value for money if this can happen.
It’s a non-story that highlights a whole load of issues. I know Williams fans will be “there’s nothing to see here” but there is. William needs the public to love the royal family. He’s missing opportunities to help that.
