One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Prince William will not attend World Cup final to watch Lionesses

Prince William will be watching England's first final since 1966 on the television and will not fly to Australia to see the Lionesses compete, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

He’ll keep his head down . Maybe someone will ‘leak ‘ a snap of Willy watching the match ‘down the pub’

Or plaster pics of Meghan in a coat all over the news.

CurlewKate · 19/08/2023 10:35

Any PR team worth its salt would have pencilled this possibility in.

Novella4 · 19/08/2023 10:40

Yes but now the ‘leak’ ( I’m normal, me) would really highlight the puppet strings . It would look so cynical .

Windsor PLC is stuffed on this one .

I hope a few more minds have been changed and eyes opened re the Windsor scam.
By the sound of the phone ins, they have

Iwantcakeeveryday · 19/08/2023 11:27

While I do agree this is too far to travel just for a single game, I think using the air miles defence isn't valid because he already flys around for other things, often short visits and that includes helicopters. So it isn't the reason for him not attending. I think he should have planned a private family holiday to Australia to support them during the tournament, out of his own pocket and on a commercial flight. He probably shouldn't be President tbh, its complicated for him when things like this happen so probably best if they have someone who is able to be fully invested and supportive. I would honestly expect the president to be at the entire thing.

I just hope it's not the local paying more in business rates than the royals do on shooting at Balmoral.

Willy's laying very low on this. I'm predicting a PR whirlwind in the not too distant future.

AnnunciataZ · 19/08/2023 11:33

William may have a full diary of commitments we know nothing about.

That seems unlikely. Every year he and Kate disappear from view after Wimbledon and don't re-emerge until September. Fair enough in past years as he wasn't the heir but now that they're Prince and Princess of Wales I would've thought they'd step up a bit more. I'm not saying they aren't entitled to a holiday but 3 months off??

Iwantcakeeveryday · 19/08/2023 11:38

How do we know they're on holiday? Does it get announced somewhere or is it that theres nothing planned? Either way, I find it hard to understand the President of the football Ass not having this in their diary as something they will be attending. I just don't think it's appropriate he is the president tbh.

Nono22972 · 17/08/2023 13:55

The semifinal was yesterday. The final is the the 20th. He could easily take a commercial flight.

There's always excuses for Kate and William's lack of commitment
Why does it need to be a proper tour?

Is having 3 young children not a reason enough? Flight in across the world for a matter of hours. Bad for the carbon foot print & the royal budget. He’s watching it why is that not enough? He attended the women’s euro if I remember correctly

The guy is damned if he does & doesn’t here

Iwantcakeeveryday · 19/08/2023 11:56

Lots of people with children who have official roles have to undertake business trips away from their family. I am sure William has to do it for other things. If he accepts this position, he should perform the role as anyone else would. I think its complicated for him and thats why he probably isn't suitable for the role.

CauldronOfLove · 19/08/2023 11:59

The MailOnline yesterday had at least 5 separate articles about William not going and how ‘controversial’ it was, including opinion columns about how he should go. Very strange since the Mail is quite pro Royal.

Must be slow news day, but they definitely want some sort of controversy around William.

I think royal reporters want a free trip to Australia!

EdieLedwell · 19/08/2023 12:01

Having three young children is not reason enough. He's had the entire summer off with them. He can't leave them for one trip? If he cannot then he's definitely in the wrong job.

CurlewKate · 19/08/2023 12:22

"Is having 3 young children not a reason enough?"

Well, if it's a reason for every other father of 3 skipping bits of their job.....

Hippyhippybake · 19/08/2023 13:51

Sorry but this having the entire summer off argument just isn’t true. He is involved in a huge range of charities and the idea that all the Royal Foundation planning, admin and decision making obligations grind to a complete halt for 6 weeks is a fiction.

Is William really involved in the day to day admin though? I just don't see it. I imagine that is left to the staff and William is only required to sign off on major decisions. His father is known to be a bit of a workaholic, but I don't think the same is true for William.

LadyEloise1 · 19/08/2023 13:54

As @EdieLedwell writes - "He's the President of the English FA and it's a World Cup Final. He absolutely should go. Board a commercial flight and go..."

If it were the Mens Final he would be there. With George.

Hippyhippybake · 19/08/2023 14:01

Their Royal Foundation charities raise over £20m a year. Yes he’s involved in the “admin”.

queenofarles · 19/08/2023 14:03

Do you really think his schedule hasn't already been set for months?! And can just fly out?! It's not a flight ti Scotland. Its 24 hours away. Just a ridiculous notion he can drop his commitments here for a jolly over football

It’s end of August , they are usually away from mid August till beginning of September, always have.

as for having three children as an excuse? Really ? Are we to pretend they have no help ?

there is no saving this , unless he's now on a flight bound for Sydney , one can always hope!

I think they want to be writing something about the final as it is big news and August is a slow news month. The reporters don't know enough about the team to write some negative things about them (because the media love to tear down the mens team) so they have fixated on William and having a second bank holiday.
It's amazing to see how many anti RF MNers are also ardent football fans and hold very strong opinions about who should be the president of the FA. Who knew?

CurlewKate · 19/08/2023 15:48

"Their Royal Foundation charities raise over £20m a year. Yes he’s involved in the “admin”"

Yep, sure he is. Spends hours with his little calculator, working it all out....

And they all know all about how he spends his days and what his various roles actually involve! It’s incredible!

Loathe football, am actually watching the rugby this afternoon. As for anti RF what a ridiculous statement. You can be a royalist but anti idleness.

Hippyhippybake · 19/08/2023 16:17

Yes isn’t it just amazing how many seem to know how he spends his days! Any trustees of the huge variety of his charities know the reality of his involvement.

Even Prince Harry in his book said how grossly
unfair the “lazy” accusations are for William.

But you have no clue as to what he's doing either.

Maybe he's labouring away behind the scenes, in constant touch with 'his' charities. Or maybe he's playing with the kids and watching Netflix for the entire summer. None of us really knows.

justasking111 · 19/08/2023 16:36

Well perhaps his employees are on here so would know
