One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Prince William will not attend World Cup final to watch Lionesses

Prince William will be watching England's first final since 1966 on the television and will not fly to Australia to see the Lionesses compete, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

I think William is in a very difficult position here and not sure what he should have done. Personally if I was the head of PR for the RF I would be advising he is pictured in a local pub watching the match. I think most people know W&C love sport and he is very keen on the lionesses.

As an aside, I think the court circular is a bit out of date now as pretty sure William isn't going to be measuring his success based on numbers of 'appointments' he attended. I thought his goal was fewer projects but with bigger long term impact. So Earthshot, tackling homelessness etc rather than how many community centres he can visit in a year.

Also, I just don't think people nowadays are that interested in lining up to see some royal open a hospital wing. It feels very out of touch.

Gilmorehill · 18/08/2023 20:04

England didn't make the semifinals of the Qatar world cup. If you don't even know that, you clearly don't care that much about football and are just looking for something to criticise PW for. You are also making stuff up, as he clearly couldn't attend a match which didn't even happen.

asterdaisy · 18/08/2023 21:34

@stillavid I look forward to hearing the long term impact and how William will end homelessness. I am sure his plans are far bigger than the foundation that gives out grants giving grants to some homelessness charities.

myrtleWilson · 18/08/2023 21:37

Who did he diss in the s/f of the WC in 2022 @WinnieTheW0rm Argentina, Croatia, France or Morocco?

queentim · 18/08/2023 22:05

Wow many seem to berally upset about William not attending.

And, true to form, British media believes they can bully Will into going.

I wonder why they think the RF are their dancing monkeys?

The England woman's team have no problem with it. I suspect they're all at Balmoral Leave them alone

everetting · 18/08/2023 23:58

Why do you think they are all at Balmoral?

TrustyRusty68 · 19/08/2023 06:30

As president of the FA, he should absolutely be there. Not wanting to take such a long flight for a short trip? Sort of understand that - but it’s his job as president. Disappointing for there to be no show of support by the Royal family for such a momentous achievement!

Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't! Gets moaned at for not attending the final but yet how many climate change people or their associates or Royal bashers would have a right go at him if he jetted all the way off to Austraila just to see a football match!

AnnunciataZ · 19/08/2023 06:54

He doesn't seem to have a problem jetting off to other countries at other times - the Jordanian royal wedding or the Earthshot ceremonies in the US. And if he took a scheduled commercial flight rather than a private jet then I don't see the problem. He went to NZ for just a few days some years ago and that's even further than Australia!

AnnunciataZ · 19/08/2023 06:59

Ah I thought this year's Earthshot ceremony was in the US too but no, it's in Singapore.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/08/2023 10:13

If the Matilda's had beaten the Lionesses would everyone still be demanding he goes out to support them against Spain?

Ridiculous statement that people keep making.
He's president of the English Football Association, so no, no one would expect him to fly out for any other team than England.
He could have incorporated a holiday or some other duty to add time, it wouldn't be for '90 minutes' as people keep saying. 🙄

Mummyof32023 · 19/08/2023 08:00

Princess Leonor has just started military school so won't be going and King Felipe probably has a prior engagement. He wears the crown after all

LimeCheesecake · 19/08/2023 08:13

This is such an obvious PR misstep, interesting that it’s William and Kate’s team again.

he so obviously should go, few would criticise him for going. Particularly if he took a commercial flight.

He needs a better team around him. They have done wonders this year shaking off Kates “lazy” reputation, but this just takes them back again.

Exactly. It's an "open goal". He's the President of the English FA, and it's a World Cup Final. He absolutely should go. Board a commercial flight and go. How is this not obvious?

I don't necessarily think he should go, for reasons I outlined above. As FA President, however, William should have known that his non attendance would be criticised, and his 'team' should have formulated some sort of media strategy well in advance. Now anything he does will just seem like crisis management. Very poorly handled.

Oh for goodness sake get a grip. If he did fly thousands of miles half the country would be moaning about the cost and carbon footprint. Its unreasoanvel to expect him to fly for 48 hours for one match. Ridiculous

Novella4 · 19/08/2023 09:58

Some one on a phone in said ( I paraphrase)
‘ what is the point of the ‘royals’ if not this sort of thing?

Exact a bloody lutely .

Willy Windsor is lazy and doesn’t GAF.
MSM usually covers for him - some people swallow the line they are fed - most do not .

Lol at those saying he hasn’t gone to Australia because he’s concerned about the environment!
-He uses a helicopter to get between Kensington Palace and his other palaces - no traffic jam for him

-he did the Boston earthshot PR flop in Boston flying celebs in ( not the researchers of course ‘little people’)

-he’s constantly flying off on holiday . His whole life is a holiday .

Planes are leaving for Australia daily . The ‘green excuse’ is weak AF.

And has anyone even tried the ‘his diary is full’ excuse ?
Yes - Full of huntin shootin fishin

He is no doubt off on holiday again right now . Either on a shooting spree or sunning himself.

All of this is making me think the theory that Willy Windsor is deliberately terrible to hasten the end of the monarchy isn’t so far fetched !

CurlewKate · 19/08/2023 09:59

"I wonder why they think the RF are their dancing monkeys?"

Because being dancing monkeys is their job.

Notforbeef · 19/08/2023 10:15

Do you really think his schedule hasn't already been set for months?! And can just fly out?! It's not a flight ti Scotland. Its 24 hours away. Just a ridiculous notion he can drop his commitments here for a jolly over football

Notforbeef · 19/08/2023 10:21

justasking111 · 18/08/2023 08:34

On a whim?? Letizia and daughter are going.

Maybe they had nothing else booked in! William may have a full diary of commitments we know nothing about. There'd be moaning for sure if he cancelled a visit to a children's hospital for a jaunt round the world for a 90 minute match.

Novella4 · 19/08/2023 10:27

@Notforbeef

This is such a PR disaster that IF he had something, anything , in his empty diary - they’d have said so.

Its summer . ‘Royals’ have a few months ‘leave ‘ ( lol) then don’t they ?

I don’t doubt people are scrambling now to produce something but it’s too late . He could sky dive onto the pitch with a cure for cancer in his back pocket and it would be dismissed as a stunt.

It’s too late.
He’ll keep his head down . Maybe someone will ‘leak ‘ a snap of Willy watching the match ‘down the pub’
