One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Prince William will not attend World Cup final to watch Lionesses

Prince William will be watching England's first final since 1966 on the television and will not fly to Australia to see the Lionesses compete, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

I don’t agree, if he’s going to Australia it should be for a proper tour not a whistle stop trip to see one game. The carbon foot print! He did of course watch England win the Euros which the men have NEVER done…

Just imagine if he does go, the cries of hypocrisy over his carbon footprint and all that way (a bloody long way too, 24 hours) just to then come back straight away.

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending

Why aren't King Felipe and Princess Leonor there, then? what's their excuse?

BoohooWoohoo · 17/08/2023 13:38

He can't win with this issue.
People would be angry about the carbon footprint and cost of flying him for a football match. If he was doing other stuff in the region then fair play but he's not.

King Felipe will be busy on other official engagements. William is on holiday

The semifinal was yesterday. The final is the the 20th. He could easily take a commercial flight.

There's always excuses for Kate and William's lack of commitment
Why does it need to be a proper tour?

If he was going, would you have started a thread dissing him for just paying lip service to his 'green' credentials?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 17/08/2023 14:00

William is on holiday

Yep. On holiday. Any reason why he should break that for a business trip? do you break your holiday for urgent work the other side of the world?

Go on, have a guess 😁

jeffgoldblum · 17/08/2023 14:04

Also the cost involved! , jetting off to the other side of the world on taxpayer money!
And let's not forget the cost of security needed for the heir to the throne in another country, all being subbed by the taxpayers!

And then if he takes George - why hasn't he taken Charlotte?

And if he takes both of them - fancy dragging two kids all that way for a football match!

And if he goes - doesn't he know there's a climate emergency? how much did THAT cost us when millions are relying on foodbanks?

jeffgoldblum · 17/08/2023 14:08

Indeed @MrsDanversGlidesAgain , the thread practically writes itself doesn't it!

feellikeanalien · 17/08/2023 14:09

Not sure about the optics of William cheering on Englandin the final in Australia when Australia have just been knocked out the World Cup by the England team.

I'm sure Australian republicans would be keen though.

Comedycook · 17/08/2023 14:10

Australia is a long way and I also agree if he went he would be criticised for his carbon footprint.

I imagine he'll record a video from wherever he is wishing them luck.

FrippEnos · 17/08/2023 14:10

Just to give the thread everything that it needs.
I blame harry and meghan.

Touché @FrippEnos !

Another thread on this zzzz

Some people just cannot accept that not everyone HAS to support women’s football

Yes, and there's a lot of talk of a referendum on the monarch in Oz, so for the possible future King of Australia to go there to cheer on England might not go down too well. Especially as England knocked Australia out in the semis.

I'm sure William has taken advice on all this. He's a future Head of State. He can't just show up somewhere without taking several factors into account.

No you’re supposed to be like “do you think it’s a bit suspicious William didn’t go to watch the Lionesses right after Harry didn’t go to watch the San Francisco 49ers” and then 4 pages later wonder why Harry is being discussed on a thread about William

If I had months of holiday every year - yes. If I was gifted a billion pound estate free of tax as just part of the reward for my job then yes.

Right now I'm on holiday on significantly lower income than his and have done a number of work calls. Its par for the course at a certain level - a level which cuts in well below the rewards and holidays enjoyed by the young generation of royals.

He DOES support women’s football! Just not long-haul flights for a 90 minute stopover or causing a constitutional crisis in Australia

Blimey, some people have to drag them into EVERY THREAD!! (just before anyone else says it....) 😆

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 17/08/2023 14:20

What's that got to do with it?

As someone pointed out just above your post, it's hardly going to be diplomatic for the future King of Australia to travel halfway round the world to cheer on the team that knocked Australia out.

Not everyone has to, but the president of the Football Association definitely should.

However supporting doesn't have to mean flying to the other side of the world at a moment's notice.

everetting · 17/08/2023 14:24

They have no problem flying out for other events, just the women's football final. So in Jordan in June and will be in the US in September.
The real reason is William and Kate don't do much during the summer at all. I think their last official engagement was abut 6 weeks ago. They are on holiday.

MrsMitford3 · 17/08/2023 14:25

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain I agree with every one of your posts!!

This just seems a goady @Nono22972 having a pop.

William does and will support women's football but surely ppl can see the complexity of this situation.

I look forward to images of him watching at home with his family!!!
