The trailer for 'Heart of Invictus" has been released by Netflix, and it looks incredible, and so moving.

For those interested, please find it here.

Then you know what you have to do. Stop gap it. Break the cycle. The next time he comes in hear a horse not a zebra. We are all fighting a war and those unlucky enough not to have a secure and safe childhood have to essentially go back to their inner child and parent them and tell themselves it’s alright.

I didn't ask for your advice. Can you not.

LadyMuckingabout · 31/08/2023 09:22

Very sad, Roussette - dh lost his grandfather in WW2, great-grandfather in WW1 and great uncle who was a stoker (ie working in the bottom of the ship shovelling coal) and was 18.

My great uncle died in Gallipoli. He didn’t even get off the boat. He was 19. Another great uncle was gassed in France. He took a year to die, at 19, at home, and wasn’t allowed on the war memorial because his death at home “didn’t count”.

I stand by my post that some posters (of course not all) are suddenly big supporters of veterans. Good if Harry has introduced them to Invictus and other charities for servicemen and women. But you can bet your bottom dollar that if William had fronted the documentary the support from some on here would be thin at best.

I want to write my post in a way that doesn't sound as mean as some of the posts on here.
Harry is Invictus. He just is. His passion for Invictus shines through in spades.

Would William be able to portray it in the same way? I'm not sure. Please don't flame me for saying that, it's just a personal opinion. And I think that is because he is so tied to protocol so it's unfair of me to say that but he cannot show the passion Harry does, he has to behave in a certain way.
For instance, I have just watched a fantastic speech to the Vets from Harry, he came across so well, they were absolutely loving him. And at one point, he said (in context please note) 'when you are competing... at the end, if you need to cry just fucking cry.' He relates to them, they were whooping in appreciation.

Harry (unfairly because of controversy) draws attention to Invictus.
William would not in the same way.

William makes plenty of documentaries. Different style to this. Different attitude to how he wants it. Sometimes he hasn’t been presenting it but just interviewed as part of it. Sometimes he has interviewed people. He has always come across as immensely professional and determined for the spotlight not to be on him. If people are interested in what they say: Great. If people are interested in this: great.

@LadyMuckingabout Those young ages. That is incredibly sad.

That is absolute nonsense. William, Charles, the late Phillip and Catherine for that matter are immensely passionate about the causes they create and support.

Lets take a step back and consider the impact things like the DOE and Princes Trust have achieved. Harry is wet behind the ears.

Seashellies · 31/08/2023 09:26

I honestly don't believe many people care at all whether he actually got support or not, literally anything he said which could be twisted against him would have been weaponised with glee. Its extremely odd behaviour, why does a complete stranger have such a bearing on people's lives that they feel the need? The same people are the ones prior to its release saying let's hope he doesn't make it all about himself, guess what- he isn't! People complaining about him are.

Janiie · 31/08/2023 09:28

I don’t think it’s meant to be a competition though! In theory their work is (or was) complementary: Kate’s early years, William homelessness & mental health, Harry’s veterans and mental “fitness” (his words not mine!)

They're also decades more established, why does it have to be a competition? I'm not fussed on any of the Royals or Harry to be honest, but I don't understand why it's not possible to acknowledge that initiatives such as those do a great deal of good and have transformed lives over the years and simultaneously this can be decent also? Is there only a certain % of impact or success floating around?

The comment was that William could not be as passionate about what he does, which is nonsense.

of course they are more established and therefore the comment that this initiate is still in its youth and hence wet behind the ears compared to the DOE and Princes trust.

Harry is no less or more passionate about what he does then any of the rest.

AuroraCake · 31/08/2023 09:34

I believe I have ready said it is a great thing plainly.

Janiie · 31/08/2023 09:35

'They're also decades more established, why does it have to be a competition'

It isn't a competition but a pp had suggested William etc may not have such clout publicity wise as they're all a bit stuffy or something. Aurora was merely listing their many high profile successful charities and their involvement.

He is a polarised figure. Shrugs shoulders. Not worth anyone’s effort to really even think about that. It’s a waste of time. I think most people have got to a space where they feel sorry for him now. That they could perhaps have insight into the role they may have played 26 years ago in the madness that surrounded his mothers death which would have inevitably made that suffering worse is doubtful.

I wish him peace.

MissElinorDashwood · 31/08/2023 09:42

The DofE awards and The Prince’s Trust are great organisations! A lovely legacy for both Philip & Charles. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone say otherwise.

Williams and Kate’s projects, it’s early days yet, so I will reserve judgment.

On a side note, auto correct was insisting I meant to type The PRUNES Trust 🤦🏻‍♀️

Its sad on a thread like this, perhaps those who feel the need to criticise a stranger online will get a hobby soon enough that adds some value to the world rather than this.

I know they are passionate about their causes, I am not doubting that.

You totally misunderstood what I was trying to say. I tried to put it in a way without criticism, that obviously didn't work.

And I have very many times talked on here about Princes Trust and how wonderful it was and the story behind it for someone I know.

Shrugs shoulders…which I actually think is the healthiest response. The opposite of love is not hate. There are both sides obsessive responses to things. When all that ends you are left with indifference. Which you know doesn’t keep him earning money but does lay no attention to him. Rocky. D hard place. He has to live. Plenty of people make careers on being controversial.

Would Invictus get spearheaded with him: No. Sentebale: No. it all comes from being royal and it’s the only things he has done. I have doubts about him beyond this. But they are amazing initiatives so maybe he needs to do no more.

The Harry case is immensely complex. Attention because he’s royal. Not royal anymore. Still getting attention for things he did while royal but also immensely polarised because of the fact he can’t ever escape the fact he is royal and that is what makes him interesting. Interesting the family have moved on, who knows personally how they have suffered.

So to those talking about how young the soldiers are. We need to have a sit down and talk about war. It was ever thus. Take a walk I. The graveyards of Ypres. We are not such things as dreams were made of.

‘but neither the Duke nor the Duchess of Sussex are the primary focus. Instead the former working royals are lending their starpower and connections to boost the stories of former servicemen and women struggling to adapt to civilian life after physical and mental trauma. The bulk of Heart of Invictus is devoted to athletes Gabriel “Gabe” George, Tom Folwell, Na Hyeong-yoon, Kaspar Holm Henriksen, Darrell Ling, and Yulia “Taira” Paievska (whose story takes a tragic turn when she’s called back to the front lines in her native Ukraine on the eve of the 2022 Invictus Games). You’ll find yourself moved by these athletes’ stories and motivated by their emotional transformations.’

Is Meghan Markle in Prince Harry’s ‘Heart of Invictus’ Netflix Docuseries?

Does the Duchess of Sussex show up for or scorn her partner’s passion project?

The Duke of Sussex and Archewell Productions are redirecting all compensation they would otherwise receive for this project to The Invictus Games Foundation, to support our work with international wounded, injured and sick service personnel.

Hopefully that puts an end to speculation and corrects the media narrative.

I don’t agree with this, I didn’t like the documentary’s treatment of Meghan… if she was going to be in it at all they should have let her say something of substance

Probably intended for her to be and then edited it out. Makes most sense. Otherwise like you say she wouldn’t have been there.

Probably! Just annoyed because the editing turned her into a decoration. We couldn’t even have had 1 second of her chatting to another wife of a veteran or something?!

Edited

Mmmmm compensation refers to how you were out of pocket for presumably making the documentary. Presumably they keep the fee for making it. I mean you have to live. And Harry’s actual appearance at it isn’t paid for by him, the foundation would pay the costs I presume.
