Harry and Meghan slammed by Spotify executive after podcast deal ends | The Independent

The old thread got closed, just as I was trying to quote tweet someone! So I've started this one, because this shitshow is still rumbling on

@Littlethingsmeanalot
I agree Charles would accept them back. He forgave Sophie and fake Sheikh.

But I don't think William would either. At a serious push I think he'd accept Harry but not Meghan. I don't think he ever trusted her in the first place. It would take donkeys years for W&K to trust them at a personal and professional level.

Qbish · 01/07/2023 10:10

I'm having trouble posting today, but there's an interesting article by Alison Boshoff in the Mail about what H&M do now. Meghan has got herself a really hotshot agent, AB is calling that a coup. So I'm sure new projects will start appearing.

Yes, she's got a very expensive Hollywood agent. She's on the move.

Harry can never undo what he has done and the damage he has caused. He’s really burnt his bridges with the future king and queen. I don’t know if he truly understands that.

As a story, it’s grimly fascinating.

I am sure he understands his family relationships better than any of us and to me, he doesn't seem to give a fuck about whether William ever speaks to him again or not. The dislike is mutual. I have a similar relationship with one of my brothers and my life is all good and fine without him. It happens.

skullbabe · 01/07/2023 10:18

I think, @limoncello23 that no one is bothered about them making money

Demonstrably untrue - there are at least a couple of people on this very thread who obviously take issue with them making money.

Ridemeginger · 01/07/2023 10:20

Regarding Harry's interest in Africa and conservation, wouldn't the photo of him with a deceased water buffalo that he shot be a problem?

William made him do it, isn't it obvious?

Sugarfree23 · 01/07/2023 10:23

Reading the mail article they want totally different things.
Maybe things will work out for them.

I'm sure he loves Botswana. Charles took him there after Diana died and funded his trips for conservation and other projects. I don't doubt that Harry's intentions will be good. However. What expertise does he have? What knowledge and experience? Perhaps he could involve himself in some project devised by someone in the know.

I think he'd really be doing their usual if he did anything with Botswana, he's had a bit of experience, a brush (read rich guy spending g a bit of time there and 'loving' it) ... so many others have invested their lives into conservation and it would, for me, seem like again they're jumping on somebody else's bandwagon to make money off the back of their hard work.
They need to be good at something, however they're only good at creaming off other peoples hard work, being spiteful, telling lies and half truths they manipulate and change a situation/ narrative to put them in a position to get the attention.
I still can't believe MM was left 'sobbing on the floor' about a bridesmaid dress

William, or Kate, or Charles, or just about anyone else he can blame

You'd think, wouldn't you?

I raise this point (and the never explained shooting of protected birds of prey at Sandringham) regularly and it's never addressed.

Likewise the hypocrisy (not just Harold, Willy too) in touting conservation credentials while having continued/continuing to indulge their thirst for bloodsports.

Precisely why Harry should stay where he is and the RF should commit to being against blood sports.

FloofCloud · 01/07/2023 10:25

@Iwantcakeeveryday ... it didn't used to be like that though Did it ... I wonder what got inbetween the brothers 🤔

Ok, let me rephrase, the overwhelming majority of people don’t take issue with them making money it’s how they do it that’s the issue.

Christ some folks think Elvis is alive, aliens walk amongst us and covid was a conspiracy by bill gates, so of course there is always extremes

@Iwantcakeeveryday I agree with you about toxic siblings, I’m sorry about your brother and I’m sure you’re better off without him. I think you’re wrong about Harry and William though. H very much does care about W and has said many times that he wants reconciliation and he particularly hoped that his father and brother would read his book. The problem is, he wants to set the terms, he expects apologies from them without recognising his own part in the breakdown of their relationship.

I'd agree people don't care about them making money but how they do it.

Many were stunned they managed to get the massive £££m deals in the first place. So are questioning what's next for them.

tigger2022 · 30/06/2023 23:24

I really don’t think Harry would need to have anything particularly interesting to say: he can just do the classic California “stand intentionally in your knowing, breathe in grace and exhale toxicity, know your presence, exist meaningfully, eat pray love” and that’s a few hundred thousand in the bank. People will want to meet a prince I think, he doesn’t have to come up with something Churchillian.

But who are all these folks wanting to pay the 5th in line hundreds of grand to tell 'his truth'? Especially as he isn't exactly a good advertisement for 'exhaling toxicity'.

Yes, she's got a very expensive Hollywood agent. She's on the move.

The mere fact of having an 'expensive Hollywood agent' doesn't guarantee work, any more than having a lucrative Spotify contract means you can actually come up with the goods.

It'll certainly help. They'll need to earn their money by actively getting work for her.

Yes, it will help, but the question remains as to what her unique talent or selling point is. The best agent in the world can't create a talent where none exists.

And I'm not sure what you mean by 'earn their money'? Don't agents only get paid when contracts are signed? If simply paying an agency a retainer were enough to get lucrative contracts, everyone would be a star!

Sugarfree23 · 01/07/2023 11:28

Purely my guess the agent will get some money to look for work for them and then get a bonus of some description for actually landing a role.

Not quite the same scale, but an estate agent gets paid to market the property but only gets the big money when the sale is confirmed.

By "earn their money" I mean do their job, ie find work for Meghan.

This is a huge agency, handling the likes of serena Williams, which is likely why they signed Meghan, as they are mates. The agency will work off a commission of her earnings. That’s for where she’s placed as the talent.

for pr work they will pay a monthly retainer, which covers a certain base line amount of work on their behalf, then they would pay more for anything over and above.

Agents take a fee (typically 10%) of all work that they source and book for you. If someone on their books doesn’t get work, they will drop them. They don’t get paid any money upfront by their client. The system works on a win win basis - we get you jobs, we both make money off them.

Maireas · 01/07/2023 11:50

Thanks, @Serenster . So they're going to have to get work for Meghan and make sure she's an earner.

AliceOlive · 01/07/2023 12:02

Tyler Perry is helping a woman fight a developer who has been harassing her.

Her home has been in her family since after the civil war. It’s located in a historically and culturally important part of the country; where the Geechee and Gullah people built communities post-slavery.

Harry and Meghan could do a documentary about the history of this area and the development going on there. It could be designed as educational, Harry exploring African American history and culture. Important work for the father of children with AA ancestry.

That kind of thing could be positive and also help fulfill their Netflix conflict. They’d have to have a strong team to ensure the tone was right.

I would definitely watch Harry doing a show like this exploring various areas and cultures in the US. Kind of like Stanly Tucci in Italy but it as food focused.
