Unusual Clothing Fail - Camilla

I think Camilla is usually the best-dressed member of the Royal family, so I was surprised to see her wearing this today. Someone should have told her this was not a good idea.

For the last ten to twenty years our eyes have become used to women's trousers becoming more and more narrow, to the point of jeggings, and not thinking it strange to see a woman walking around in leggings and a top that comes to the waist, so we couldn't see the bare flesh of her bottom and legs but we could see every curve of her lower half. It has been a different sort of immodesty from my young days when the mini-skirt became a pelmet!! Our eyes are not very used to wide trousers. If they really become the fashion again and everyone wears them we won't think they look odd.
Thank you for the photo of her in the navy-trimmed-with-white outfit. I prefer that to the royal blue one.

CaptainSeven · 12/06/2023 22:04

I'm not a Camilla fan so this isn't sycophantic

I think she looks lovely.

ThePoshUns · 12/06/2023 22:36

I think it's nice to see a royal woman in trousers, I don't recall any others wearing one. I wouldn't wear it but she looks ok to me.

Maybe she has joined an ABBA tribute band.

😂

Now that gave me a laugh. thank you.

Camilla is in her 70s. She should wear what she likes. We all should. If we want to dress like an Abba member or Elvis then we just should.

it’s a very real photo. Everyone looks pretty ordinary.

porridgeisbae · 13/06/2023 00:11

The person with the big hair, facial work done and heels etc doesn't look ordinary, but it looks desparate IMHO. Someone said it was Joanna Lumley? 'Just a bit of seepage, darling.'

I am smiling at all those calling me names because I dared to say I did not like what Camilla was wearing
"all those calling me names"? I've read and re read and it looks like you are making stuff up. Why? And, really, no one cares whether you like Camilla's outfit or not but you seem to be in denial over it. Weird

Okay I am leaving this thread. I did not expect a barrage of personal insults
And I was insulted pretty nastily long before I used the term sycophantic
This is simply, and very clearly, not true. I can see why the OP had to run away😂

porridgeisbae · 13/06/2023 00:12

I don't think Camilla looks ordinary at all. And she looks like she's loving it. Look at that cheeky smile.

By ‘ordinary’ I mean on a city street they wouldn’t stand out. Although I keep forgetting about the bloke in the red/ gold crown jumper. (I wasn’t referring to plastic surgery - but to be fair, JL isn’t the only one there that’s had plastic surgery, fillers etc. While I find it sad that people feel the need to mess with their faces, I also sympathise with pressures to look young - ageing isn’t revered in our culture. And that clip you provided hasn’t aged well - I’m not sure what you meant by including it).

Camilla does look happy. Good for her. She’s also among friends there.

@upinaballoon

Wide legged trousers are back in fashion now (although fashion wise pretty much anything goes atm.) I grabbed three cotton pairs. Comfortable, cool and hide a lot. I will buy more to put away for the future. I’m old, and wide legged trousers, with thin elastisized waists that you can hide or emphasise with draw string, are my style of clothing now. They do emphasise a broad backside but that’s fine with me as I don’t have to look at it.

EconomyClassRockstar · 13/06/2023 00:58

I think she looks like she's going to prison. A very blue prison but prison none the less.

LuluBlakey1 · 13/06/2023 01:04

It just doesn't flatter her from the waist down. Sophie Wessex has worn similar and it hasn't flattered her. I don't know if these outfits just don't photograph well or if you really need to be tall and very slim/straight to look good in them. Camilla is not tiny - she's about 5ft 7 - but she is short waisted and has a low bust.

LuluBlakey1 · 13/06/2023 01:10

It's just not a flattering shape on the vast majority of people.

Joanna Lumley looks very unstylish, in the background of the photo.

greenspaces4peace · 13/06/2023 02:16

pop this in s&b and get some good feedback.
the wide leg jumpsuit looks "heavy" especially paired with black shoes.
one fellow is wearing a jumper and joanne in the culottes makes it hard to tell what season or time of year this is in (yes i presume recent)
for this time of year i think jl is the best dressed.
i think if the person next to the queen was not dressed in a similar blue the photo would look different instead so much of the same shade looks overwhelming.
it's a poor photo taken from a poor angle a little bit better know-how with camera/iphone shot would have helped.

JandalsAlways · 13/06/2023 04:08

I think I quite like it. Quite cutting edge too for a Queen and older lady.

Nice idea, but I was called names first. The misogynistic insult bitchy was thrown at me very early on. And other insults followed.
Just reminded me why I rarely post on MN these days.
I will leave you to your insults towards me for daring to say I do not like what Camilla is wearing.

I was just looking for a style and beauty type thread by the way. Not a barrage of personal insults.

You would've been ripped to threads in Style and Beauty too OP, a jumpsuit is the go-to suggestion for any occasion!

Seddon · 13/06/2023 04:44

ripped to SHREDS! My clothing pun was unintentional Grin

WiddlinDiddlin · 13/06/2023 05:02

Ahhhh.... mystery woman does appear to be Gyles' wife, looking particularly 'on my way home from Tesco's ish'. (I just compared pics of her in the past, no secret insider info!)

SmurfetteSalad · 13/06/2023 06:51

It looks fine! Definitely not a RF fan. But I think you're wrong OP 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm a republican, so not a fawner, but think it looks fine. I probably would have chosen different shoes, though, to go with it.

Yes, I'm really pleased to see some labels saying 'Wide' at present, as well as 'Tapered' and obviously tightish jeans on the racks. I have bought a pair of 'wides' and they are comfy, for the first time in a long time, as the waist has a drawstring and they are deep enough at the back to come round the bum, right up to the waist. The more any royals or celebs do to make wide fashionable, the better. I wish my figure was a good as Camilla's, or indeed many people's. I'm not over-keen on the royal blue, but that's nothing to do with the shape of the garment.

upinaballoon · 13/06/2023 07:14

Gyles B has been famous for his jumpers for years and he doesn't take himself too seriously. I don't know whether the crown on his jumper is a particular one, but I think he has CR on it for Camilla Regina as he was introducing(?) readers for the Queen's Reading Room Festival.

Maireas · 13/06/2023 07:22

I agree, @Morestrangerthings - where did you get yours from?

Morestrangerthings · 13/06/2023 08:24

I’m not in the UK, but bought them from an ordinary store in my local shopping mall. Cotton on was the name of the brand. $50 a pair. They came in cotton or cotton/linen mix. They are softening up nicely after a few washing cycles. They look good with the extra low cut converse sneakers that I bought from theiconic.com (I think they also carry some ‘cotton on’ clothing). I bought 2 pairs of the converse sneakers, I black pair, I white. To wear with them. They aren’t big heavy sneakers. Extra low cut, so my feet don’t feel as encased and hot - plus more flattering to my legs as normal or high cut sneakers cut me off when I wear them with a skirt. It’s a bit cool here at the moment but when it warms up I’ll start wearing the pants with flat, natural coloured leather strip sandals - a greek brand I’ve forgotten the name of. My casual wardrobe is sorted (and comfortable.)
