I've probably garbled that, but that's the gist of it.

The King thinks Sophie is very relevant to the Royal Family and clearly values her contribution. That’s why she is in the official pictures - and why Harry isn’t.

Only because Harry and meghan left!

EdithWeston · 25/05/2023 15:34

Edward and Sophie totally mucked up half in/half out, and the press intrusion was horrible.

Back then she was in the pillory as totally unsuitable, disgrace to the royal family etc.

It's taken 20 years of largely unsung royal duties for their rehabilitation.

Sophie in particular adopted the Princess Anne approach of really learning how to be useful to organisations in her key areas (eg against rape as a tool of war, VAWG and FGM) and is now respected in those fields internationally (less so here, because the press don't report on those subjects much)

It's a route that is open to H&M should they wish to take it over the longer term

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 25/05/2023 16:21

What a load of rubbish. Sophie and the fake sheikh scandal - no greed and gain there eh?

Over 20 years ago. Is that really the best you can do?

Washington Post Ms Awards

After reading the things Meghan (it is spelled ‘Meghan’), and the other women honoured at the Ms Awards have done - I’d have to disagree with you FloofCloud.

One of the most powerful women in the world.

Hmm, it does seem the others have achieved a lot. And of course Meghan too. To be one of the most powerful women in the world is a great feat. I wonder what swung it for her. Being in Suits, doing fashion shoots, marrying the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, writing The Bench. It's a tough one.

Obviously Harry and Meghan are not important any more.

Sophie and Edward would still have been in the photo even if H&M hadn’t stomped off in a huff. Because they are working royals. And the King values them.

FloofCloud · 25/05/2023 17:02

@behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas - woke is fine to use as a word as it's meaning is known by many.

I think anyone who uses the words 'will yas' together is clearly uneducated so maybe can't comprehend anything beyond what's written for you in black and white and you can't read between the lines and lies. Albeit I'm not right wing, at least I'm educated and have a brain that can interpret lying manipulative social climbers who hoover up recognition that should be directed at the actual hard working people - she/they look for low hanging fruit and jump straight into that bandwagon to grab any recognition or reward they can after the schmoozing of people who give away such awards who again make a mint out of their (now very grubby and slippery) names - social back slapping and arse kissing without doing very much actual work

Oh don't be stupid. It's a line from a movie. I can't be bothered to read the rest of your crap.

Not half as much as describing yourself as “one of the most powerful women in the world” does!!!

wonder why she didn’t put “shy, retiring and modest”

It's interesting in these awards she's getting that there is cross over of the same group of people getting multiple awards.

It seems like they align with particular political leftist identity politics (yes woke) ideology, which fits with the views of the boards of these awards.

I presume Meghan is therefore getting awards because she says the right kind of things that fit with this world view, and she has positioned herself as a victim against powerful forces which is the highest status you can have in this type of ideology.

At least that makes sense now. Before I kept thinking 'why is she getting an award she hadn't done anything??'

I suspect in LA expressing the correct views whilst claiming to be a victim, is the route to the powerful and influential. That's why they've gone there, she knows the rules of this game and can play it to her advantage.

We think all the moaning harms her, whereas in Hollywood it gives you status.
Whereas for poor old Harold the Brits can't be arsed with his moaning.

I know, you can't trust anyone these days. The lack of a capital letter and no spaces between words did ring a bit of a bell, though. Not to mention the slightly combative tone.

@StrawberryWasp Basically an old boys network arrangement, but left wing, democrat, networking the same crowd, lots of 'charitable' (aka virtue signalling) events, wealthy, high profile people scratching each others backs. yea, woke lol

I still want to know about this movie quote.

Haywirecity · 25/05/2023 19:47

I presume Meghan is therefore getting awards because she says the right kind of things that fit with this world view, and she has positioned herself as a victim against powerful forces which is the highest status you can have in this type of ideology.

Definitely these many (all?) these awards are linked with the Democratic Party. After all she approached Steinem to coordinate giving help to the Democratic Party. And it was from that that Steine said she'd help Meghan as much as she could and she got the award.

I also think it's Steinem's Ms Foundation that said that one person achievements (LaTosha Brown, I think) was getting the Democraric party elected by increasing the black vote. And the Kennedy Awards sort of speak for themselves.

Its not that Meghan is to blame for this, she's just playing the game. And I guess charities can give to people who align themselves politically or on message. For me it just devalues the actual point of awards - which I've always been sceptical about both at home and now in the US. There are plenty of starlets doing visits for the UN and getting paid to go to charities just like Mrghan did, giving out the exact same 'supportive to women' messages. Where are their awards, Gloria?
