Is Harry Stealing Meghan’s Thunder?

This started when I saw the photo from the Ms Foundation awards, where Harry is looking directly into camera and Meghan is gazing at him (when there must have been loads of other photos the foundation could have chosen from) because without context you’d think HE was there to be recognised.

It really annoyed me because it’s literally called the “Ms” Foundation for WOMEN, he tagged along as a +1, SHE was there to get an award, SHE was there to give a speech (in which she didn’t even mention him), SHE looked amazing, yet he’s managed to make the whole thing about himself - about HIS vendettas with the press, HIS childhood, HIS security battles.

And even later in the taxi he was still fully focused on his own battle, recording the paparazzi back. (Meghan doing the much more sensible thing of looking dead ahead and trying to ignore them).

Nobody remembers why she was there or a single word from her speech. It’s just really annoyed me!!

3rd thread on Harry and Meghan on this section in just over 12 hours. 😂
More obsessed than the tabloids. Hilarious reading over breakfast. 😂

Because the supposed car chase became the story.....you need to be annoyed at whoever sanctioned the press release that started the ball rolling on that subject.

Him, I don’t think she likes the paparazzi either but she’s not completely blinkeredly obsessed with security and the press like him

Did he choose which pictures were put in the paper? I'm guessing most things they do are done with publicity in mind as a mutual decision and few people would even have heard of her award (what did she do to get it) the story would have be a 5 second if that wonder and not be talked about how many days later or restarted the debate on getting us to pay for security.
As an actress I'm sure she knows how to get the best PR

polkadotdalmation · 20/05/2023 08:28

Maybe they feel happier if they appear together? I think it was meghans day, and Harry seemed to be secondary? I didn't watch it though so not really interested and could be wrong.

The story did become all about the Bonny and Clyde style car chase though. They shouldn't have issued a statement in the first place and the non event wouldn't have overshadowed the actual event. The only thing that made the car chase newsworthy was the spokesperson's hyperbole

GoodChat · 20/05/2023 08:33

Haha. Hahaha. Hahahahaha!

TinkerbellPeter · 20/05/2023 08:35

I saw that photo. My take is that Meghan wants the look like a Disney princess, staring adoringly at her prince. As I am sure this will resonate with the American public whose concept of royalty is moulded by Disney

curtainsfringe · 20/05/2023 08:35

And yet nobody cares about them & wishes they would go away 🤣🤣

Fourecks · 20/05/2023 08:35

I guess it's a double-edged sword for Meghan - the only reason the award is reported on so widely in the first place is because she's married to a prince.

If it makes you feel better, OP, the first photos I saw from the event were of Meghan by herself, them one of her with her mother. I didn't see the one gazing at Harry until the car chase was reported.

Prettylittleroses · 20/05/2023 08:35

Her mum came too so it’s what she wished, the reason no one remembers or cares is due to thr bullshit story they put out after about a high speed chase for two hours, and then the mad “demand “ for the pap agency to hand over all images so no one else could see them.

they did it together to themselves as they always do. They could have behaved rationally, stated the paps made it challenging, talked about the award, but oh no. They went for the attention seeking max drama exaggerated version.

I think so but the way that photo is framed (and I assume it was one chosen of many) he is the subject. The foundation could have picked one where they’re both the subject - both looking forwards or both looking at each other or even - gasp - him looking admiringly at his wife who has just won an award.

Agree, she’s done this throughout their relationship, I find it weird. It’s not often you see other people in this pose on a regular basis.

But, like you say, he didn't choose the photo. The foundation did.

He's had a lifetime of being trained how to handle the media in a very formal way.

I genuinely don’t know why she was there or what she was getting the award for, Harry’s presence didn’t add or take away from that.

And, to be fair, she'd have been trained how to handle the media as an actress, which means portraying the perfect 'lady' in order to keep everyone happy.

It could equally have just been a ‘moment’ - ie they posed in front of the board for a few seconds, the camera went click click click, and the foundation chose a photo from a moment she happened to be looking at him. Which is annoying because the framing makes him the subject. Next time, I’d leave him at home!!

@unbelieveable22 maybe look about a bit more broadly (art? culture? literature? film?) and you’ll find things that interest you and you actually want to talk about, and you won’t have to spam the threads of people who have interests of our own? Posts that say “haha you’re interested in X? Well I’m not!” are not actually that clever in any section of MN.

I guess if it's the one with her looking adoringly at him, no one but her is responsible for that except her. Bottom line is she's an actress and she knows how to play the audience and the audience (the American media/public) want a wife to be gazing adoringly at her Princely husband.

When they entered the event she walked ahead with her mum and didn't even glance at Harry. When the cameras start rolling, she starts acting.

polkadotdalmation · 20/05/2023 09:26

@unbelieveable22 You seem to be the one spamming these threads. If you're not interested, why do you keep popping up and commenting? Odd behaviour.

polkadotdalmation · 20/05/2023 09:27

@tigger2022 But Meghan is the one choosing to look in that 'acting' adoring way. It's not a normal look at a husband, it's a hero worshipping look.

FloofCloud · 20/05/2023 09:30

Why did she even get an award? These award ceremonies are all just jumped up pally promotional rubbish anyway tbh

8roses · 20/05/2023 09:33

The awards thing was a shit show - they were being ridiculed online. And then we had ‘The Chase’ ! They shouldn’t really be let out.

Your advice is noted. The entertainment can be as intriguing here as it is in other sections. Contrary to your assessment I am not spamming bur nevertheless I appreciate that is your opinion. You know what is said about opinions? Everyone has one......

I further appreciate your honesty in calling the dissecting of every aspect of H&M life, primarily negative here, as an interest. It certainly is bordering on an obsessive interest for some.
