Is Harry Stealing Meghan’s Thunder?

This started when I saw the photo from the Ms Foundation awards, where Harry is looking directly into camera and Meghan is gazing at him (when there must have been loads of other photos the foundation could have chosen from) because without context you’d think HE was there to be recognised.

It really annoyed me because it’s literally called the “Ms” Foundation for WOMEN, he tagged along as a +1, SHE was there to get an award, SHE was there to give a speech (in which she didn’t even mention him), SHE looked amazing, yet he’s managed to make the whole thing about himself - about HIS vendettas with the press, HIS childhood, HIS security battles.

And even later in the taxi he was still fully focused on his own battle, recording the paparazzi back. (Meghan doing the much more sensible thing of looking dead ahead and trying to ignore them).

Nobody remembers why she was there or a single word from her speech. It’s just really annoyed me!!

Maybe she doesn't care? She was an actress and blogger, but she's kept remarkably silent and discreet since marrying Harry. They get slagged off a lot but it's all Harry yap yap yapping. Apart from her award acceptance she hasn't said a word in months, was barely even seen and not photographed or papped for months.

Maybe she's happy just being a mom and taking meetings behind the scenes, and occasionally releasing a new book or podcast or attending an important event but otherwise staying private.

I'd hardly call 6 hours of Netflix and god knows how many other ridiculous appearances, as keeping quiet since she married Harry. She slagged of an entire nation plus Harry's own family, for money.

Meghan isn't a princess. She's only where she is because of the men she married.

Goodread1 · 20/05/2023 13:45

Megs was a actress who I didn't event watch her tv series,
she has become mega face since then,

but she hasn't got quite same class as Grace Kelly had

When I saw Meghan staring adoringly at Harry in the press pics from the event I did think why? This event was supposed to be about her so why as a strong woman would she choose to pose in a way that centres her husband rather than choosing a pose that portrays them both as equals?

Because she hasn't really got a clue. She forgot to switch off 'adoring little wifey' mode and switch to 'strong fearless feminist' mode. She went off brand for a moment.

I think so many people now see through the act and the fakery

I've always hated when Meghan gets accused of manipulating harry to turn away from his family, when all along he seems to have held a grudge against them and he used Meghan as a way to escape from his family and also as a scapegoat for his screw ups. He's let her down as a husband many times already so this is par for the course for him.

I really hate it and I fully appreciate I’m projecting a lot of my own stuff but… she cut ties with Thomas Markle (what seemed to be a very loving if dysfunctional relationship) after Harry, she cut ties with Jessica Mulroney after Harry, no contact with her ex-husband after Harry, she cut ties with her other friend (forgot the name) after Harry, even the silly ones like Piers Morgan and Millie Mackintosh - after Harry, all those staff, nannies and whatnot, that came and went - after Harry, cut ties with the RF obviously after Harry… people keep portraying her as a ruthless, manipulative social climber… but it’s like… you know cutting people off and isolating yourself can also be a sign of being in a relationship with someone toxic right?!

@tigger2022 I agree it's not all down to Meghan in the slightest. Harry has always wanted out of the goldfish bowl life in the RF and an American wife was a perfect opportunity to go.

It wasn't a life for Meghan either. Once the glitz had rubbed away and the boring, restrictive monotony had revealed itself, she wanted out too.

I don't blame them for that in the slightest, it's a life most of us would hate too. I'm sure William and kate would have been quite happy living in Surrey, with jobs in the city, or any life away from the fishbowl, but it wasn't an option for them.

My dislike of H&M is their betrayal of Harry's family and the dreadful fallout from the whole shitshow.

Harry loaded the gun and Meghan fired it. And now it looks like it's all her fault but he's got his revenge on the paparazzi and his family through her. Imo.

How sad that a grown man needed 'revenge' on his family, especially his brother who had also lost his mother.

I saw that photo. My take is that Meghan wants the look like a Disney princess, staring adoringly at her prince. As I am sure this will resonate with the American public whose concept of royalty is moulded by Disney

Yes, it's a regular trope of hers. From the engagement interview onwards. Clinging to his hand and gazing up with rapt adoration.

There are a few old pictures of her looking at her father the same way. Maybe she learnt early that it works.

There's no comparison. Grace Kelly was a huge Hollywood A Lister, basically Hollywood royalty, before she even married Prince Ranier.

tigger2022 · 24/05/2023 08:33

For Grace Kelly it was almost a step down!

Well yes, because no one had ever even heard of Prince Ranier before then.

mixedrecycling · 24/05/2023 12:17

I've always wondered why she did it.

tigger2022 · 24/05/2023 12:22

The other difference was that Grace Kelly didn’t marry the spare, she married the reigning Prince

I've always wondered why she did it.

I read a biography about her and it mentioned that she had a bit of an Electra complex about her father and bitterly resented that he clearly favoured her older sister. Grace thought that by marrying an actual prince she would finally win her father's approval.
