Or maybe a cottage in the woods and lived a life of obscurity, if that's what they wanted?

Harry's a rich man based on inheritances alone, they could have lived quite comfortably relative to most of us, if they'd chosen a quiet life.

I suspect it's not that simple for them, but why not?

Doesn't their mansion belong to a friend of theirs?

mixedrecycling · 19/05/2023 12:40

I thought they had taken out a mortgage to pay for it?

Mrsjayy · 19/05/2023 13:13

Oh have the got a new house? I thought they were still staying at an actor friends mansion.

On the contrary, he appeared happy and relaxed at the Coronation.

I didn't see that. He was madly grinning at people and trying to catch people's eyes and waving. He didnt look sad or anything. He just looked a bit tryhard. He reminded me of the unveiling of Diana's statue. Trying to laugh and clown around and people either ignoring him or humouring him with an insincere smile.
He often looked across at his brother but his brother didn't look across at him. It made me realise just how much everyone has moved on.

Didn't Charles offer them a secluded house in rural Wales, if they wanted privacy & no Royal duties for the first few years of their marriage?

That was never going to work....

Yeah...no. I don't think sheep can take photos.

rattymol · 20/05/2023 10:09

I have never seen that anywhere. Given I pretty obsessively follow royal news I do not think Charles ever offered them that.

Maireas · 20/05/2023 11:17

I think the late Queen offered them a house somewhere in the countryside, and the opportunity for a low key start to royal life. Meghan wanted to hit the ground running.

rattymol · 20/05/2023 11:21

They were offered a low key start with no real work. Meghan wanted to work. She was used to being busy, not living like someone retired.

Maireas · 20/05/2023 11:29

They wouldn't have to live like a retired couple! They just could have had a low key start, but it wasn't for them. That's fine. Choices are made for many reasons.

Yes Nicola Sturgeon lives in a fairly modern house on a middle class estate. That did surprise me, I expected her to be in a Victorian Villa with gates.

Yes, I only saw it when she resigned. I warmed towards her finally 😀

"low key" is definitely not Meghan's thing. But neither is "real work" in any recognizable shape or form....
So half right?
