Who are the young people that will help him?

huh?

Phos · 08/05/2023 18:31

I'm not sure how the article is relevant to your "question" but the time William is King, his three children are likely to be adults for a start.

Justhereforaibu1 · 08/05/2023 18:33

Why do you not include his own children?

XBealtaine · 08/05/2023 18:36

Well, Charles could live another 11 -15 years.
Even if he only lives 10 more years, George will be 20 and might do the odd duty. Lady Louise will be drafted in on occasion I suspect.

PollyPeptide · 08/05/2023 18:37

I agree. It's quite short sighted. The Duke of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and Prince Michael, etc, have done so much work for charities. As the numbers fall so will the amount of charities the RF can visit and support.

PuttingDownRoots · 08/05/2023 18:37

Edward is 15 years younger than Charles... and a closer relationship than the Gloucesters and Kents. (Uncle rather than distant cousin of the monach) so could feasibly still work until George and Charlotte are old enough.

DogInATent · 08/05/2023 18:39

Hopefully by the time his turn comes round the whole thing will have been scaled back to something more in keeping with the current century.

Curtain1980 · 08/05/2023 19:09

Included the article as it’s a photo shoot of the working Royals.

yes I forgot his own kids 😂😂

No. He will have plenty of people to help him. His own children which you left out, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Lady Louise, Earl of Wessex James, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh Edward and Sophie. His own wife who will be Queen Catherine. He may have others too in mind.

In fact, his reign may be the most vibrant in regards to a young cast of royals taking on duties in one form or another.

Curtain1980 · 08/05/2023 19:11

And to be fair even Eugenie and Beatrice might start helping when they’re older? Maybe even Zara or Mike? Just a lot of patronages and engagements. They’re a busy bunch!

I thought people wanted a scaled down monarchy and were complaining Charles hadn't done it.

Now he has, there's folk complaining there's not enough working royals. Grin

Curtain1980 · 08/05/2023 19:12

Queen Elizabeth had more help and I believe they still struggled, she had 4 kids and their husbands/wives, Harry, William, Kate and then her cousins

I know having Royal patronage brings a huge amount to a charity having supported a charity that got support from the royal family. It did so much for its profiling.

I'm just glad Andrew isn't in the photos.

duvetcovereddissident · 08/05/2023 19:20

Maybe he will choose not to be king? He doesn't have to be.

caringcarer · 08/05/2023 19:24

This is nonsense. I don't think William will struggle at all. He has Catherine and his own 3 dear children, Edward and Sophie and as others have pointed out Lady Louise and Her brother James. He could also ask Zara, Beatrice and Eugene to help if necessary. Also in time his own children could marry, so could Louise and James.

MysteryBelle · 08/05/2023 19:26

Not sure about Princess Beatrice but Princess Eugenie has made herself clear in choosing sides, how could Prince William trust her? And she has always had a dislike it seems of Princess Catherine. There’s an old video of the royals coming out of church and Eugenie seems to on purpose plow into Catherine on the steps and Catherine is surprised but not surprised. Through the years at events Eugenie has seemed to be unfriendly to her. I don’t think she will ever be part of the picture and may be pushed out entirely.

Its confusing because Meghan’s minion Omid and Harry himself have publicly bashed disgraced Andrew in articles, tweets, tv appearances; and interviews and book, respectively. Yet Andrew’s daughters still side with Harry and Meghan. Beatrice hugged Piers Morgan last week and Eugenie was present, another head scratcher. Regardless, jealousy of The Prince and Princess of Wales will be the common denominator between the four of them.

Not really related but I heard Eugenie’s voice for the first time when she did the walk about this week. She has quite a deep voice. I was a bit taken aback, wasn’t expecting it.

The sisters were both doing walkabouts so it might be possible they will carry out royal duties in the future.

Yes, great list and I think Zara and Mike would be assets as well.

Georgiepud · 08/05/2023 19:32

I think it's a reasonable ? to ask.
I am an only child and despite having cousins and my own kids, I have always longed for a sibling or two to support me and to talk things through. William won't have the benefit of his brother to do this.

Curtain1980 · 08/05/2023 19:50

I think it’s reasonable to ask too as people are considering it and answering/adding in/discounting. I didn’t know that of E & B. Never been fans of either of them.

I guess they’ll always be Princesses by blood. They’ve married rich families so their kids won’t be working Royals for sure.

It seems the Queen had more cousins perhaps.

Beatrice and Eugenie will not be drafted in, they've been lobbying for their father to be brought back in. A strong no from the king, even stronger from William. Yes, both sisters are very pally with Piers Morgan.

XBealtaine · 08/05/2023 20:42

Are they friendly with Piers Morgan? I thought they were friends with Meghan and close to Harry. I'm trying to make sense of this!!

The whole concept of a 'royal family' with sundry sons and daughters and cousins and nieces and nephews doing 'good works' on behalf of the monarch is actually a fairly new one in the history of the monarchy. The 'slimming down' is going to mean that there is simply going to be less of the above, and the monarchy will more closely resemble a ceremonial Presidency with occasional tiaras and pageantry.

I agree with @Maireas above that it's very unlikely the York sisters would be 'drafted in'. Same with the Tindalls. Charles has made it clear that he envisages the 'slimmed down' monarchy to only involve his own line. I can't see William being any different and by the time he's king, who will even know who the various cousins are?

DonnaDonna0 · 08/05/2023 20:56

@nonheme where are you getting your info on Charles and William? Do you know them personally?
