So aparantly William was late but also heard Charles was early. What was meant to happen?

I read Charles was supposed to arrive at 10:53 so he was only a couple of minutes early. Don’t know about William and crew.

Macaroni46 · 07/05/2023 22:48

Does it matter?

Bimbom · 07/05/2023 22:56

Charles was ranting in his carriage when he arrived, it's been translated by a lip reader. He was annoyed that William was late.

BillyNighysWife · 07/05/2023 22:57

i was wondering this as well. Charles seemed to leave before a lot of people had arrived at the Abbey and I was worried he'd arrive early. Sure enough the BBC stopped showing pictures of guests in the abbey as he got closer and there were no BBC shots of William and family arriving, they were just visible later on during the ceremony. It was almost like they arrived late and had to slip into their seats away from the cameras to hide the fact that Charles got there before them.

Backtonormalatlast · 07/05/2023 23:00

He just wants to be on time .Absolutely irritating when people are late !

MangshorJhol · 07/05/2023 23:02

They didn’t slip into their seats. William and Kate walked in behind Charles with their kids.

Nono22972 · 07/05/2023 23:02

I watched it overseas and my commentator said that Charles left 10 minute early

WeAreTheHeroes · 07/05/2023 23:02

William was late. Apparently the line up of William and Katherine following the King and Queen in was improvised. They were supposed to have taken their places waiting for the King and Queen.

The BBC showed them walking in procession following Charles and Camilla and taking their seats.

Charles was early. He was early to the concert today too, they'd obviously scheduled interviews around his arriving time and it had to be cut short as he arrived a couple of minutes before he should have.
In the every day grand scheme of things that would be fine but if its something like this that's planned to the second then one person out of time slot would have a knock on effect.

BillyNighysWife · 07/05/2023 23:04

I didn't see pictures of William and Kate walking in but in any case the monarch absolutely always has to arrive last. Arriving after the King is a real faux pas.

DiplosSet · 07/05/2023 23:04

He really is an impatient, grumpy arse.

pizzaHeart · 07/05/2023 23:05

I suppose once Charles set off it was difficult just to overtake him on the way so him being slightly early made William even more late.

Likewhatever · 07/05/2023 23:14

Charles was early by a few minutes. The Waleses may well have been on time but still behind him. Unless HMK was actually driving the coach it wasn’t really his fault if he turned up ahead of schedule, any more than the Waleses were at fault for turning up when they were supposed to.

Sunnycornwallanddevon · 07/05/2023 23:15

It's so unusual for it to have gone even slightly awry

I didn't realise it wasn't part of the plan until I read it earlier on here. I just saw it as King and Queen arriving with William and Katherine behind as next in line. It made sense to me but I'm obviously not very up on these things!

usernamein · 07/05/2023 23:18

Errrrrr its not like they are going in their own car

Singleandproud · 07/05/2023 23:22

ITV commented at the time that KC coach arrived almost 10 mins earlier than expected and a comment that you can't control the speed of horses or something similar.

I'd be grumpy too if the biggest day of my life went awry.

Womencanlift · 07/05/2023 23:42

If C&C left early or W&K left late they could have resolved it by W&K taking the other route down Birdcage Walk to the Abbey rather than them following the carriage. Then they would have got there first.

Something odd must have happened, maybe on route, as these royal events are usually timed to the minute

HamstersAreMyLife · 07/05/2023 23:49

How odd, the timing and procession order I read on the BBC was exactly as it happened so no one seemed late.

The official order of service released before the coronation provided that W&K arrive, take their seats, and then Charles and Camilla enter.

I did find it odd at the time that W&K were part of the procession with their seats notably empty but assumed it was something to do with W being the heir apparent.

No they walked in behind Charles

NBLarsen · 08/05/2023 00:04

These things are planned to precision so it's unusual for it to go wrong. Charles left on time but was a fraction early, his carriage must have gone too fast, William was a fraction late, I presumed one of the kids needed the toilet just before they left! Not sure why they have William and family walk in front of Charles though, the monarch should always be the last one in so it was odd to have them walk behind him.

PurposefulBear · 08/05/2023 00:09

Honestly, it’s not like he dropped the f bomb or anything. Biggest day of his life he was nervous, and easiest is to take it out on people closest to you
