So aparantly William was late but also heard Charles was early. What was meant to happen?

I was on the Mall, the Wales family was in a Rolls Royce right after the carriage with KC and QC. If they were late why didn’t they let the car go first, with carriage following a few mins behind? Seems odd that that wasn’t possible as they were literally right behind the carriage.

William was late. Apparently the line up of William and Katherine following the King and Queen in was improvised. They were supposed to have taken their places waiting for the King and Queen.

That's what I would have expected. However, if improvised, they pulled it together without a flicker - or at least not one that was shown. We didn't really see them arrive and get out of cars and line up - ready to swoop in behind C&C (which is where they'd have been if planned to go in afterwards).

I did think something had gone astray whilst I was watching

Posted before I saw that!

The Waleses limo was not shown on the telly (we could see only the security vehicles - which were clearly that as they were covering angles, not processing down the middle) nor was their presence in the kingly procession mentioned in the commentary. Which is a bit odd - focus on C&C of course, but I'm quite surprised no mention at all

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 08/05/2023 07:13

The Wales’s were not waving or looking out so my impression was that they wanted the focus to be on the King.
still surprised it wasn’t logistically possible for the Rolls Roys to go first, but maybe something to do with position of all the horses and guards in front of the King’s carriage.

He really is an impatient, grumpy arse.

I'd be pissed off too.

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 08/05/2023 07:14

You can see the Rolls Royce in the video that their Instagram account posted.

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 08/05/2023 07:14

It just shows that even with nanny and staff it’s hard to be on time with 3 young kids 😂😂

WeAreTheHeroes · 08/05/2023 07:34

Well something went wrong. Maybe the carriage procession started before the Waleses had set off meaning they were stuck behind it, unable to go their planned route or their driver went the wrong way. It could be they were re-routed for security reasons. There will be contingency plans for these kinds of things. When the king and queen were preparing to go in in the covered walkway, you could see the Waleses car pull up behind them on the BBC.

Yes, surely that order was planned? Otherwise doesn't it make more sense for them to just have Charles leave 1 min later so W&K can go first (if they were running slightly late), rather than have Charles leave and then W&K be 30 seconds behind and mess up the procession.

Fromage · 08/05/2023 07:34

I blame Louis. I bet he kicked off.

Louis is awesome and should be king immediately imo.

All bows and curtsies to be replaced by the Royal Jazz Hands Wave.

Hands over ears when forced to host some nutjob racist dictator.

Frankly they were asking for trouble when they even took him along. I'm astonished he didn't breakdance across the quire and moon his grandad. Or maybe that was edited out. He certainly wasn't in the abbey for the whole thing.

Also from the video on their insta, I think the Wales left from Kensington Palace. So maybe they set off too late and then got “stuck” behind the King from Buckingham Palace.

I am always amazed at how relaxed Kate seems when the DC are around - not stressing like I would be. They seem great parents.

Sunnycornwallanddevon · 07/05/2023 23:15

It's so unusual for it to have gone even slightly awry

Isn't it more that the Queen would never have given any sign things were amiss and everyone would have thought all was as it should be?

Well I didn't know anything had gone awry until I read this thread!

Sugarfree23 · 08/05/2023 09:33

@Kitcaterpillar I think you might have nailed it the Queen was a master of remaining calm. Maybe Philip was the calm one keeping her calm.

I think both Charles and Camilla were stressed out their boxes on Saturday. Could be an element of they were itching to get going.

She probably has a nanny on standby to whisk them away if needed.

ScribblingPixie · 08/05/2023 10:01

That's so like my own parents. They'd definitely arrive ridiculously early then fret about me being late right up until I arrived bang on time. Families!

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 08/05/2023 07:13

I'd be pissed off too.

Then I guess the same could be said for you.

Pissed off that you’ve got to sit in a carriage for a few minutes, what a hardship! Everyone running around sorting everything for you and you’re pissed off because you just have to wait. 🙄

Comedycook · 08/05/2023 10:11

Something must have gone wrong somewhere...it was really weird that W&K came in after C&C. Still I imagine it's split second timings...if one leaves two minutes early and one leaves two minutes late, it could happen I guess.

ANewAdventure · 08/05/2023 10:13

I’ve never worked with the royals, but I’ve worked with high profile politicians, and they have a very irritating habit of being ready early, demanding to leave ahead of schedule and then being pissed off that things are awry at the other end when it’s them who has caused it. That was my first thought when I heard that Charles arrived early! (Who is going to tell him he has to wait five minutes?)

Quite.

He had a strop about a pen knowing he’s being filmed, he can’t wait a few minutes in his carriage without being bored and saying so. He’s like an overgrown toddler. No patience and incapable of controlling himself.

Inkanta · 08/05/2023 10:21

Fancy saying you're bored when sat in a Cinderella gold carriage!

BishopRock · 08/05/2023 10:26

Where are all these lipreadings people are mentioning? Someone mentioned one on another thread where Sophie apparently said something about Louis not wanting to wear shorts.

I read about Charlie saying he’s bored on sky news.

To be fair it must be terribly boring to have to sit waiting in your golden carriage before you go and get your diamond encrusted crown
