Using t*mpongate as an insult

Ok I’m probably going to get piled on but whatever…

Does anyone feel a bit uncomfortable about the way some people casually drop in references from Camilla/Charles’s leaked telephone conversation as a drive-by insult? Or casually use it as a cruel nickname for them or something?

Having that leaked was such a violation, and when it’s referenced so callously to try and humiliate them it feels as ick to me as if people were quoting from leaked revenge porn or something.

Exactly. If he was my kid I'd be so ashamed of him.

I’d probably be more ashamed of Prince Andrew as a son, but the Queen stood by him.

I’d be more worried about the brother who associates with convicted sex traffickers tbh

Inkanta · 05/05/2023 19:41

So tampongate may not necessarily be used to insult - it can be used to shine a light on the truth. God the divine is the truth and the light and maybe this was Charles' test. Charles has had to deal with all the repercussions of his affair going public. It was a secret that he probably would have kept secret if it hadn't have been for the dastardly hacker.

3FriendsAndADog · 05/05/2023 19:45

Well I’m sorry but that exchange happened when they were BOTH cheating on their respective spouse.

Im struggling to see why they should be spare the ‘humiliation’ of everyone knowing about it. I mean they are Royals. They would surely have known the risks.
Ir did they think they were above everything and no one would dare mention their ‘indiscretion’.

As for the tampon reincarnation 🤮🤮🤮 Has he ever seen a used tampon?

He didn’t say he wanted to be reincarnated as a tampon.
And yes, they were cheating, and like all people who cheat, deserve to suffer the consequences of their actions. However like any other cheating spouse, they also deserve to not have their private telephone conversations illegally hacked and published to the world.

I find it bizarre that a grown adult is too squeamish to type the word ‘tampon’

yes phone hacking is a shitty crime - everyone should have a reasonable expectation of privacy in a personal conversation

Already explained this earlier in the thread, but the reason for using * was to prevent it being searched by people looking for it - basically I was trying to find a way to raise the subject without inadvertently participating in any cruelty myself.

while he spends £100 million + on gold-embroidered robes, air-conditioned carriages and holy oil. That feels like a crime in itself, morally.

Total bunkum being regurgitated as usual.
He's not spending anything on new robes. He's wearing his grandfathers.
He's not spending any money on the carriage - it already exists.
The Holy oil is just olive oil.
🙄

Incorrect. The security itself is estimated to be £150M let alone anything else

Oh believe me, if Andrew was my son I'd be ashamed of him too.

Sudeko · 05/05/2023 20:57

More progressive PR would use it as an opportunity to spend less on the coronation and make a big donation towards fighting period poverty. However, that would probably be asking too much!

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 05/05/2023 21:02

I am the most anti-monarchist person on the planet with plenty of rude things to say. But I believe leaking private conversations is very wrong. I also called someone out today for referring to his ears.

Yeah and his ‘sausage fingers’. Resorting to insults about personal appearance is just lazy.

Charles has long-standing form in associating with the sex offender pond.

And before anyone starts with the excusing of the Savile chumminess on the grounds of 'he fooled everybody' it's beyond belief a man with an entire brigade of lackeys whose job was to have their ears to the ground wasn't made aware of the 'open secret' Savile's activities have been shown to have been.

That's estimated so you don't have any idea if that's right or not.
But the poster I replied to said they'd spent £100m+ on robes, a coach and holy oil. Total tosh.

Course I have no idea. Security is kept secret. These are the estimates everywhere and I believe it.

All mancovers taken up, explored and sealed down, drones, police forces from all over the country with officers moved to the capital, airports monitored etc. Even the royalist Express says security is more like £250M.

If you're going to believe the express then you're going to believe them when they say the coronation weekend will see £8b spent over the weekend.
250m outlay for an 8b return. Can't see what there is to complain about there.

Simianwalk · 05/05/2023 15:13

It was pretty vile though. I still can't believe he actually said it! So deeply unsexy.

Have you actually read what was said on the conversation? At no point does he say that he wants to be her tampon, which seems to be the comment that wrongly get attributed to him.

All I know is... we'll never know

PollyPeptide · 05/05/2023 22:04

What I do know is that critics will always bump up the reported cost number as high as they can without ever reporting, or at best totally minimising, the revenue it brings in.

Give me audited figures and I'll listen

SchoolTripDrama · 05/05/2023 22:31

@DanceMonster That's actually really funny! If that'd been said on a tv show or in day to day life by someone else, everyone would laugh! 🙄

Loria · 05/05/2023 22:33

Lol. You're funny OP.

tigger2022 · 05/05/2023 22:45

The cost of the coronation isn’t relevant. Even if it cost £900 million trillion bajillion, I think C&C are entitled to a basic level of privacy and using a time they were victims of an intimate crime as an insult is way below the belt.

Yet will forever be remembered, even if not PC to say it.

LadyWithLapdog · 06/05/2023 00:48

It’s not going to disappear from collective memory, however much PR push on this.

Don’t you think though that just because it’s out there now, doesn’t mean it’s ok to use the fact they were victims of an intimate crime against them?
