The royal family

Part 2: The Press & The Royals a discussion

Following on from this thread: Part 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_royal_family/4786923-the-press-the-royals-a-discussion?page=1

As we know, the press often manufacture stories to create divisions between the women in the family, more often than the men. They have also hacked private communications, with cases ongoing. The public seem to feed off this and none of the family get treated very well except the monarch-although not always.

For discussion: do we think it is possible for the royal family to stay relevant and in the publics mind without their unhealthy relationship with the media, and how can they achieve that? How will previous and current legal proceedings alter the relationship?
Please do not intentionally derail this thread by discussing your personal dislike of particular family members or if they deserve it. I would really like to continue this discussion on how the royal family and the press interact, as above.

The 'ordeal'. 😂😂😂😂. The car crawl round Manhattan ... great idea for their next Netflix reality tv show.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 20/05/2023 17:59

No reason not to think so and as they are meghans photo agency of choice and could easily confirm she alerts them to send in their chosen photographers, rather risky to upset them.

This is a very serious allegation to make @polkadotdalmation Are you saying Meghan alerted the paparazzi to come and take those photos? What backing do you have for this incredible assertion? Wouldn't Backgrid say if this was the case, that Meghan can't complain because it was she who called us?

Why would they need to be alerted when the New York event was an announced event that was public and known of for months?

And why would Meghan want intrusive, poorly lit paparazzi photos of herself, husband and mother squashed up in a car, including in a yellow cab, leaving an event where she had just posed for much more glamorous and lovely photos? Why would she want to put her husband and mother through that just for pap photos in the backseat of a car?

Vanity Fair suggests that the paps followed them because they wanted to know where they were staying for a stake out the next day. If Meghan could just call them to alert them, why not do that directly then?

Your posts are more worrying than usual as you seem to be sliding into conspiracy theories. Take it easy.

Indeed !

@notanotheroneagain @skullbabe e

Remember when Meghan and Harry bashers took the side of the Taliban right here on this forum?

Good times. Now I see the good guys are the paparazzi who follow people to take intrusive photos through car windows.

But it's all Meghan's fault because she apparently really wants poorly posed photos of herself circling out there. 😅

Serenster · 20/05/2023 18:12

If you read the judgment in the Rebekah Vardy and Colleen Rooney case, the judge sets out in the detail the common of practice of celebrities arranging to be photographed by paparazzi, including letting them know where they will be in order to have their photo taken (Vardy was heavily involved in this practice).

Backgrid is an agency with a reputation of engaging in this practice (but they are by no means the only one).

The photographer who took the first photos of Meghan and Harry together on a date in London, and the photos of Meghan in Toronto wearing the necklace with M and H on it, has confirmed that those were set up photos, where Meghan/her team told him where and when to be with his camera.

So hardly a conspiracy theory - more a reasonable deduction. It’s also noteworthy that despite the fact that the award ceremony had a red carpet set up, Meghan and Harry entered through a back entrance via Hertz car rental office. Surely unexpected? Yet plenty of photographers were waiting there for them.

Howsimplywonderful · 20/05/2023 18:15

@Serenster

According to the photographers there Meghan and Harry ducked into Hertz rather than appearing on the red carpet which was laid on outside. It’s in a NYT article I posted on another thread.

it reminds me of kids looking for a chase.

But how is tHis relevant to a situation where Meghan was at a publicly announced event?? So Meghan arranged for the paparazzi to know that she would be at the Ms Foundation dinner just to have her photo taken .. even though there are many photos that were taken of her at this event, which was not a secret to event at all?

Then she arranged for the paps to follow her around New York to take more photos?

Make it make sense.

ancientgran · 20/05/2023 18:25

Were they really being chased by photographers on bicycles?

polkadotdalmation · 20/05/2023 18:25

After the snarky reply by Backgrid to the Sussexes lawyers demand for the footage, they may just come out and say they worked with the couple. I guess Backgrid know where the bodies are buried, so best not upset them 😂

polkadotdalmation · 20/05/2023 18:26

ancientgran · 20/05/2023 18:25

Were they really being chased by photographers on bicycles?

Yes one apparently. Must have been terrifying

Serenster · 20/05/2023 18:28

Obviously I have no idea what happened. But it is perfectly possible that the photographers were told in advance that the couple would be arriving through a back entrance, so be there for their photo, but would be leaving from the front, and so more pictures could be taken there, and then they’d be heading off to dinner or similar, so could be followed for more pictures.

It’s also possible that they didn’t want photos at all, hence their Hertz office arrival. That seems ore unlikely, though.

Bottom line - none of us know, and there are a number of possible scenarios.

Lol.

Despite all the 'red carpet style' pics of her. Clear and pretty. She apparently also wants grainy pics of them squashed in the back of a cab. 😂

With speeds of 80 mph being quoted I reckon he's missed his real calling. He should be riding in the Tour De France.

Because first I saw their first date pics were selfies on Netflix.

Can't lie, didn't even know who Vardy was till this case. Can't for the life of me, even name her husband.

Hadn't heard about Colleen in ages.

Wouldn't compare them to H&M.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 20/05/2023 18:37

Quite @notanotheroneagain

You have this absolutely lovely picture of three glowing, beaming people, photos that his the front pages of papers everywhere, M H and D looking like they are lit from within, but what Meghan really, really, and I mean really wanted to cement her Rebecca Vardy level of fame and ambition were the sort of poorly lit, squashed up pictures that can only be taken by drive by paps from while she is in an unlit car.

And so she called the paps.

The contortions people will twist themselves into to make her the bad guy in EVERY situation are quite something😆

If only they had stuck a speaker on the top of the taxi (like fame) and loudly played ‘candle in the wind’ - their good friend James Corden could have bounded on for one of his crosswalk musical numbers

I am not your personal google. He has given interviews and tweeted from his own account on the subject.

Also, given your high interest in Prince Harry’;s current media lawsuits I find it somewhat surprising you weren’t also interested to read about the most recent big case on this topic. It revealed an awful lot about the relations of celebrities and the media behind the scenes.

I know.
There are lovely pics of MM looking lovingly at H, but no, they have to go around NY for 2hrs with precinct stops inbetween. 😂😂

Wonder why Kate was not accused of 'orchestrating' pap pics when she was pictured around London as a girlfriend.
