The PR Whodunnit?

So what is this all about then?
Who did it and why?
And whoever's PR team is responsible needs tearing off a strip, it's going to backfire.
I know there was a thread about this earlier today but it was deleted due to questions over how genuine the OP was. As this story is everywhere at the moment I thought I would have a try myself and see how we go. Just a couple of preemptive points:

  1. My MN credentials are rock solid so don't anyone even go there😁
  2. Lets also keep some perspective, at the end of the day we are talking about a bunch of privileged and entitled millionaires who likely wouldn't even pee on us if we were on fire and that goes for both 'sides'.

🤞🤞🤞🤞

Meghan wrote to King Charles expressing concern about unconscious bias in the Royal Family - report

The letter was reportedly sent after the duchess said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that a senior royal had speculated about how dark her unborn son's skin would be.

I’ve always thought the the whole Mark Phillips issue (what a charmer he was !) rather rebuts the line that various posters like to take who say that “of course” William has affairs and Kate just puts up with it “because that’s what they do” in those circles. Whereas, in reality, Mark Phillips was a philanderer and Anne divorced him. Both Charles and Diana had affairs, and the Queen told them to divorce. Fergie had an affair and Andrew divorced her. The dial had already shifted on expectations of fidelity for the generation ahead of William and Kate, let alone their own one.

He featured heavily in a recent documentary about Anne actually.

That's nice.

Serenster · 24/04/2023 11:23

And Zara and Peter recently attended their half-sister’s wedding, which was covered in the Press here.

Roussette · 24/04/2023 11:26

I am pointing out that stories can be witheld or dampened down when the RF so wish. Or inflamed when they don't.

Lots of footage and stories have been pulled because they just want to.

Serenster · 24/04/2023 10:41

Yes, of course Camilla asked the Telegraph to change the article to add in that the Royal Family treated Meghan and Harry appallingly. 🤣🤣🤣

Which has been said a dozen times by Sussex supporters? So easy to slot that in. Duh !!

notanotheroneagain · 24/04/2023 11:30

Serenster · 24/04/2023 10:53

Another change that was made to the article was that the reference to an “innocuous comment” was removed - the alleged racist incident having been described in the first version as something Meghan agreed was an innocuous comment made without malice.

No one can seriously suggest that anyone at the Palace requested a change in the article to remove something that minimised the allegation against them.

Sleeekkkk 😂😂😂

I'm sure this happens but stories about Mark Phillips were splashed across the tabloids for years especially in the News of the World.

Serenster · 24/04/2023 11:34

I don’t see why you think this is an example of damping down stories though, Roussette, as it’s such old news. Anne had been divorced for more than 30 years. She has been married to Tim Lawrence since 1992. Family weddings aside, no-one in that family does anything to bring these past issues back into the news. Why would there be stories about them? (There definitely were when all this happened, though!).

I fully expect there’ll be some muck-raking done when one of them dies, as that’s the tabloid M.O. (see the Mail’s stories on Barry Humphries this week, for an example 🙄). But otherwise, it won’t generate clicks these days …

MrsMaxDeWinter · 24/04/2023 11:34

Both Charles and Diana had affairs, and the Queen told them to divorce.

Charles and Diana issued a statement read by John Major in parliament, that they were separating but with no plans for divorce.

It was the press furore resulting from their tit for tat interviews that led the Queen to say enough, divorce.

polkadotdalmation · 24/04/2023 11:35

😂😂😂. Hardly anyone had heard of Meghan markle prior to Harry. A B rate cable actress approaching 40 ? The Tig... one of millions of blogs from one of a million bloggers promoting a lifestyle she exaggerated and name dropping because her lifestyle depended on it.

Give it a rest. 😀

Stemmingthetide · 24/04/2023 11:36

@MrsMaxDeWinter Princess Anne, Mark Phillips and Zara would also have achieved a level of fame as accomplished equestrians who won European, World and Olympic medals etc.

The Queen may have achieved a level of fame as a horse trainer/owner.

Whilst not necessarily achieving fame, Prince Philip had a successful naval career in his own right.

Samcro · 24/04/2023 11:37

people do like to pretend Suits wasn't popular.

I didn't realise Princess Anne had been married that long.

polkadotdalmation · 24/04/2023 11:39

Never heard of suits before Harry met sally.

What they mean usually is that they didn't know her, so therefore no-one knew her.

While claiming that everyone, naturally, follows closely equestrian sports and knew of Zara, Mark, and Anne and their successes.

It's all part of not giving her any credit for any thing at all.

Did Kate and William actually say that or did that come from Harry? I understood it was the latter though happy to be corrected.

She was a mostly resting actress and D List when she occasionally got work but undoubtedly, still an actress. Nobody I know in the film industry had ever heard of her. She was financially supported by her husband Trevor Engleson for ten years but picked up some really minor jobs now and again. She got her D List break in Suits towards the end of her career and that was the only time she could claim any professional success.
She was moving into humanitarian PR type work because her career was shortly coming to an end and then as if by magic, she met a royal and her chance to become properly famous for the first time.
The only royal family member who can claim success in acting before marrying would be Big Suze.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 24/04/2023 11:56

I can believe that Kate and William loved Suits. Just as I can see why Harry would love Friends.

Have you ever watched it @StormzyinaTCup ?

It's a lot of fun. Good looking and beautiful actors, great storylines, zippy dialogue, amazing clothes, very funny, and lots of pop cultural references. It's an easy watch.

Sudeko · 24/04/2023 11:56

However, I agree that she was more successful at blogging than she was at acting.

Meghan was successful in what she did pre Harry but to extrapolate from that that Meghan was a mega star that everyone should have heard of is a bit odd.
I don't 'follow equestrian sports' but I did watch the Olympics, read the papers and watch the TV

LadyMuckingabout · 24/04/2023 11:57

I watched a couple of Suits episodes years ago. So I recognised MM when the romance with Harry came to light. But it’s a stretch to say she was famous and successful. Had done quite well for an actor/actress, granted, but she had nothing on (work wise, that is!) when she met Harry and was with the Soho House crowd in London.

Meghan would never in a zillion years have been so famous (even mentioned as a future President!) were it not for her marriage to (Prince) Harry.

Never said she was a mega star.

Merely disputing that she was an unknown nobody.

Roussette · 24/04/2023 11:58

Making over $2million from Suits was pretty good going I would say. But do call it 'D list' repratedly if it makes you happy 😂

I am amazed that I am on a forum for women sometimes, the amount of knocking a woman for anything she does that goes on

Roussette · 24/04/2023 11:59

Sudeko · 24/04/2023 11:56

However, I agree that she was more successful at blogging than she was at acting.

So making $2million and appearing in 150 episodes of a long running series was not successful
