@purpledalmation the time issue will be why he’s claiming not to have known until 2018- 2020

I thought that's probably likely and the hacking came to light very late on. I don't think there will be much money in it as British courts don't give punitive damages. I think the people are doing it because of the principle and to highlight shady practices. To be fair to journalists I don't think this awful level of invading privacy is as bad.

milti · 29/03/2023 08:53

Well at least it gives Meghan a break - much easier looking after two children than three 😃 I bet she loves it when he’s away - hope she’s making the most of it

Do they have a category for teenagers now?

An insult to teens there @PreparationPreparationPrep 😄

Nope, this is something else, that would probably be too offensive for me to name.

*Prince Harry witness statement:

"I became aware that I had a claim that I could bring" in 2018.

The Institution was without a doubt withholding information from me for a long time about NGN's phone hacking and that has only become clear in recent years as I have pursued my own claim with different legal advice and representation," he said. Speaking about how he found out other people within or associated with the Royal Family had brought phone hacking claims against the press, he says: "It is not an exaggeration to say that the bubble burst in terms of what I knew in 2020 when I moved out of the United Kingdom."He went on: "There was never any centralised discussion between us about who had brought claims as each office in the Institution is siloed. There is this misconception that we are all in constant communication with one another but that is not true." The prince added: "The Institution made it clear that we did not need to know anything about phone hacking and it was made clear to me that the Royal Family did not sit in the witness box because that could open up a can of worms."
He went on to say the Royal Family's "strict no comment policy" meant that "even the worst or most suspicious articles were often never brought to my attention".

There is obviously a personal element to bringing this claim but it is not just about me. There is also a social element as, if the most influential newspaper company can successfully evade justice, then in my opinion the whole country is doomed.”

“I am bringing this claim because I love my country and I remain deeply concerned by the unchecked power, influence and criminality of Associated. The evidence I have seen shows that Associated’s journalists are criminals with journalistic powers which should concern every single one of us. The British public deserve to know the full extent of this cover up and I feel it is my duty to expose it.”*

Wow. This statement.

It shows up the RF and it's invisible contract. It tellies with the book. Harry had to get his own legal team to find out the truth. He reconfirms that they all work separately.

I would be surprised if the judge doesn't allow this to proceed, tbh.

notanotheroneagain · 29/03/2023 09:09

Obviously he can visit where he likes, but if every time he comes home, he ends up making negative digs about things, obviously the British are going to get fed up with him.

Harry was back here for Invictus. Even when pushed he evaded answers regarding his family. Funeral, he did not say anything. He is here this week, said nothing about anything to anyone. Don't know what you are on about.

What’s been described as his “appalling hypocritical behaviour” is actually a perception carefully curated and orchestrated by the tabloids over the years in a wildly successful attempt to sway public opinion of Harry & Meghan, their cash cows, lucrative beyond belief.

It’s amazing how gullible people can be. But we saw the same thing in the US with the radicalisation of the MAGA crowd.

This is the alarming part for me, and I said it aplenty on here. The rags can do this because they sit side by side with broadsheets, discussing serious issues like education/NHS/government etc. Then they insert division and hate regarding H&M/Black footballers/Immigrants/ Wokeness etc. More worryingly this trend seems to be sipping into other broadsheets like Torygraph etc. The next Leveson report should really banish them to the back isles with Heat/Closer/New Idea magazines. Where the gossip lies.

Another poster inaccurately called it a global problem. It's not. Other countries have very strict rules on media. The printing of lies, distortion of facts, down to where supermarkets should place publications. Truthfulness is engrained on the journalists, they know they will lose their audience if they appear biased. All this seems to be lacking in the UK.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/03/2023 09:26

... you can only bring this type of case for 6 years after the event, or after you learned about it

Perhaps this is why he's claiming not to have known about some of it until 2018/20 (and apparently that's all the RF's fault too because his attention wasn't drawn to articles)?

So given the inaccuracies in so much else he's said, I guess he'd better hope ANL don't produce proof that he was aware ...

The whole thing is alarming really. While there is s global problem with truth and news, tabloid invasion into private lives does seem to be more of a British problem. This hacking thing is next level though and quite serious because they’ve resorted to so many illegal practices and targeted all kinds of people, not just celebrities- who don’t deserve it either of course. It is quite literally the press operating above the law. It seems everyone in power is too scared to stop them.

You say it's slipping into the broadsheets now? If that is the case then maybe it's not division and hate but just printing a different opinion to you. Are you saying you would prefer all papers that aren't singing from your hymn sheet ,including now the likes of the 'Torygraph', (but not I would imagine The Guardian) banished to the back aisles where they can't be read so easily? I find that quite alarming tbh.

Whaeanui · 29/03/2023 09:45

The former US president Barack Obama has suggested that Rupert Murdoch’s media empire has led to greater polarisation in western societies through news coverage designed to “make people angry and resentful”.

I found this interesting, this extract comes from The Guardian. While not related to ANL, it’s what Harry said in his book about Murdoch too.

Plitvice · 29/03/2023 09:46

It is starting to sound like "Total War is the Quickest War." Hmm 😏

I think that's stating the bleeding obvious. Western newspapers, particularly in the Uk are toxic. However, many people buy them so it obviously sells. I don't buy newspapers, but sometimes spot the headlines and am tempted ☹️

It's nicknamed the 'torygraph' for a reason. A lack of impartiality.

I never said it must be banished to the back, but I was quite alarmed at how quickly they seem to follow the rags down the gutter. I think the temptation is hard to resist, the profits, and hate is now getting to be a 'culture' of some sorts.

The guardian, for a long time did not even report on H&M, but when they eventually did, they had the decency to put in 1. the story 2. A positive 'opinion' 3. A negative 'opinion'. As should be.

Papers will alway lean left or right. This is natural, the reader can choose. Ideally, there should be an equal number of both sides newspapers and more neutral papers. This is what we are lacking.

In radio, I like LBC for example, because all sides are presented.

Currently we have too much DM/Mirror/Sun etc. right front and centre. If you want utter lies and divisions, then go to the back isles and get that.

VixenTodd · 29/03/2023 10:10

So says the propoganda minister 😁

Whaeanui · 29/03/2023 10:15
