The royal family

Was there anything Kate didn't excel at?

Having read many articles Kate (pippa & James also) is so accomplished since she was tiny.
She is very sporty.. strong swimmer, excellent skier, hockey player, lacrosse, athletics, netball.. Plays piano very well & also was lead in schools drama production. Excelled at art.
It seems the Middleton's didn't do much in the way of equistrian sports?
Would love my dc to be as accomplished & well rounded. Can't afford Marlborough or any private for that matter!

I suspect that partly this is the hyping of royal abilities that has been going on for years - anything they do they're always super super good at, because they're royal. Even when they're trying something for the first time, someone will gush about how they're a natural and could do it perfectly.

HubertTheGoat · 15/03/2023 11:44

Academics? She's never described as one of the outstandingly clever girls at school.

There characteristics were all from school friends throughout the years.. She's often pictured skiing or playing sports on visits etc. Pippa too is just as accomplished.

I thought she did well at school?

Unintelligent people don’t get into St Andrews

I guess we just have to expose the DC to as many things as possible and cross our fingers.

The people I know with all rounders worry that their kids aren't focused. The parents of kids who are amazing at one or two things worry about the things they can't do 🤷🏻‍♀️

ParentsTrapped · 15/03/2023 11:54

She got AAB in her A levels, A in Maths (not easy!) and Art and B in English, so presumably wasn’t one of the absolute top performers academically but no slouch either.

Her sporting success at school is proven - she set various school records in athletics and was captain of hockey team etc. These things haven’t been invented by the royal family. At the same time it’s clear she had lots of opportunities and support in and out of school to get into sport so not surprising she could build on her natural talent.

😄We have cousins like this. Had to listen to it for years.

Yes that's true. I would imagine her parents are just as instrumental in her "well roundeness" as was her school.

I don't think that art is easy either but that might be influenced by the infamous school report where my art teacher said, "Ancient couldn't draw a straight line with the aid of a rule." I thought it was a bit harsh but I do admit I am no good at art.

Inkanta · 15/03/2023 11:59

A in Maths A'level !! Can't argue with that.

Mommymoments · 15/03/2023 12:01

@ancientgran art is really difficult to get high grades in. Although art history is fascinating. A in Maths is definitely brain box territory! Not easy at all!

Oh, another thread about how incredible Kate is.

So she's decent at sports and the arts, like many people. She can't be incredible though or she would have developed more of a career path/deeper interest in these areas. She's clearly not an academic, although I doubt anyone who is would want to join the royal family anyway.

Private education can train mediocre kids to be decent in many areas and excel at exams with enough tutoring. Many have strong extracurriculars due to their privilege and nothing more. She is nothing special.

Anyone on here worshipping the royal family should get a grip and focus on making themselves a more productive member of society. Calm yourselves.

I respect both and I don't think I'd be able to get an A in either but I'd have more of a chance with maths than art where my chances would be zero.

I remember articles about Prince George when William and Kate took him on their overseas trip to New Zealand when he was 9 months old. Kate took him to a playgroup session with other babies and toddlers. 'Experts' were quick to point out his leadership skills among the other children ! It starts from birth.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 15/03/2023 12:05

The lack of equestrian sports is because she's apparently allergic to them, but none of them can ride which is odd in their circles. Maybe a horse phobia, or maybe just not interested.

Corah5 · 15/03/2023 12:05

Part of being well rounded is shit tons of money for tuition and access to excellent facilities. It’s easy to excel at things when you’ve had those opportunities. As a child I didn’t even have the opportunity to learn piano because we couldn’t afford it, and my school certainly didn’t have opportunities for sport beyond the weekly 1hr PE lesson.

PlateBilledDuckyPerson · 15/03/2023 12:06

Her photography is distinctly mid.

I thought the same the middle & upper classes are very "horsey" in my neck of the woods. Think Carole missed a trick with the horses🤔😂

To be fair, an only (at the time) child who has every whim catered for is more likely to be confident bossing about other children than those who are in normal families. He's very quiet and shy in public now so either he's changed as children do, or the articles were puff pieces, seeing what wasn't actually there.

Unintelligent people don’t get into St Andrews

It's a fairly typical Scottish University. Plenty of mediocre people from my Scottish state school went - it wasn't considered any more difficult to get into that Aberdeen, Glasgow etc. On MN its considered a Scottish Oxford or Cambridge. AAB is actually better than I thought she did, but it's certainly not incredible, particularly from a private school.

WhyOhWine · 15/03/2023 12:09

DD has a friend like this. She is genuinely talented at lots of stuff - county level sport, grade 8 (or whatever the top grade is) in 2 instruments, lead is school play, all 9s at GCSE and 4 A stars at A level including Art (also artistic!). Plus also a really nice girl and very sociable. It was a big shock when she did not get into Oxford last year, although did get into Cambridge this time round.

She does have quite pushy parents but she is also very focused herself and likes being busy.

I think there is usually at least one like this in most school years.

Mommymoments · 15/03/2023 12:09

George, Charlotte & Louis will kept an even more privileged education at Lambrook which is supposed to be extremely sporty & musical. Although not an academic hothouse..
Apparently Charlotte love horse riding.

I used to be a teacher. You get these fairly often! Sporty, all rounders, clever, good looking, nice. It seems unfair but that's life!
