The royal family

How do republicans who support H&M feel about 'princess' lillibet

purpledalmation · 09/03/2023 10:15

I mean how do you reconcile the, to me, gross hypocrisy of saying you want to leave the royal family to pursue your own projects and for privacy and would give up their royal titles.

Their own projects so far consist of trashing the royal family and making money from it, while clinging to their royal titles.

Privacy consists of reality tv shows, public therapy sessions and a book tour.

They touted their children's privacy and security as a reason for leaving yet they name their children prince and princess. A sure fire way to draw attention to them and reduce their security.

I honestly want to know how people who want the monarchy gone yet praise harry and Meghan for their bravery in standing up to the RF, square this circle?

I think the ermine is only for a selected group involved, just gowns for guests I believe ( not the men obviously 🤣!)

@Maireas

Very interesting about the tiaras.

Would the Royal women be wearing floor length dresses or ceremonial robes, do you know? I read somewhere that the ermines are out?

Tradition for Charles says silk knickerbockers/breeches but he's decided against it Grin

jeffgoldblum · 10/03/2023 16:10

Of course, we could all be disappointed and it will be more modern and paired back!

I know! If you can't go all out for a coronation, when can you?

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 10/03/2023 16:12

Roussette · 10/03/2023 16:08

I just imagined... as the last coronation was over 70 years ago, and times having changed enormously since then, it might not be the same sort of coronation as before.

I know I know there are less going. I also know it's not going to be so long but all those tiaras dripping with diamonds 😲

There will still be bling I expect.

I’d expect at the very least Kate, Anne, Sophie, Alexandra and Birgitte to be in tiaras. Katherine Kent if she is there.

I do think there’s a good chance that all the royal ladies will be.

Would be a first tiara event for Lady Louise as well.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 10/03/2023 16:13

Plus will also let all the foreign royals break out their jewels as well.

Oh don't say that ! I love all the pomp and finery.

Yes, they will. Floor length ceremonial gowns, but you're right, I think, no ermine.

I want to see them all dripping in tiaras and amazing jewels, but not those weird special medals that are on sashes - they are ugly! I don't care about the significance, I just want pretty fashion.

And I want lots of stories in the press from both sides about how Alexis and Krystle (Kate and Meghan) had a proper mud fight over which tiara to wear.

Unlikely.
As pp have said, they're allocated.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 10/03/2023 16:16

I don’t know any republicans who care for Harry and Megan. They might be a good thing if you want the monarchy to fail with all the drama and nonsense but that doesn’t mean you like them.

It’s like SNP supporters who wanted Boris to be PM. I imagine most dislike him but they know he could cause fractures in UK and so it helps their goals.

jeffgoldblum · 10/03/2023 16:17

@Maireas , yep if you're gonna do it , do it right! .
Of course there will be some bling , but there's bling and then there's BLING 🪩🪩👑💎💎💍💍

Serenster · 10/03/2023 16:19

Are all these royal women seriously going to be wearing tiaras?

Assuming the dress code is in line with past coronations, any woman who has access to a tiara is entitled to wear it. So, foreign royals will be wearing tiaras too. And also the extended family members - the Kents and Gloucesters have a big tiara collection. And any peeresses attending - if Earl Spencer did attend, which looks unlikely given his comments, then his wife would be wearing the Spencer tiara. As it is it’s possible his sister will, as Jane Fellowes’ husband was very senior in the royal household for many years. And potentially also Camilla’s daughter, as I presume that Camilla won’t be wearing her own family tiara (The Shane Kydd tiara). And the Lord Mayor of London’s wife gets a tiara to go with the role. I can well imagine Rishi Sunak’s wife might find one at her disposal…and, and, and etc.

Charles wears knee breaches still to the annual diplomatic reception (and William used to when QEII was alive, but he ditched them for the first one following the regime change 🤣).

😲 Don't blame him!!

We have a thread running on S&B discussing such things - I know a couple of you are already contributors, but others are welcome to join!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/03/2023 16:27

... even if there is nothing to attack, they just make it up

So do some of the fans

Interesting that someone else pointed out Harry's lack or criticism of his uncle though; I'd noticed that myself and wondered why

CathyorClaire · 10/03/2023 16:29

Someone has to stand up for the important role played by the courts and criminal justice system in testing the facts and the evidence, and recognise the dangers inherent in acceding to mob rule

Well we know Andrew will never see the inside of a courtroom let alone the view from a defendant's stand so testing the facts and evidence in his case is never going to fly.

Hardly surprising people draw their own conclusions.

Rishi Sunak's wife? Seriously? My gob is smacked!

True to form, I have to say, I just don't feel comfortable with this huge display of unearned wealth... £100million being spent on it, and tiaras and jewels and millions being displayed whilst we gawp in amazement.

Peronally I think it should be pay per view, that would raise a lot for those that are desperate to watch it. All monies raised going to good causes, and those that want to make a stand can opt out!

Maireas · 10/03/2023 16:39

Well, @Roussette that's an interesting suggestion.
Money was donated after HMQ's death.
Have a look at how it was spent.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 10/03/2023 16:44

@Maireas

May come to lurk and learn thanks. I love the sort of trivia!

Roussette · 10/03/2023 16:44

Fuel bill charity. Good one. Can't see how much.

My pay per view idea would raise millions!

Maireas · 10/03/2023 16:47

It would and I think it's a brilliant idea!
Or - any channels showing it donate a certain amount

LaMarschallin · 10/03/2023 17:22

Wasn't sure where to post this, but this is the RF thread I've been reading and, as usual, it's been wending its way around all sorts of subjects (enjoying the fashion musings)...
Anyway, if anyone likes cryptic crosswords, the one by Tramp in the Guardian today has a pro-Harry & Meghan theme. Some clues a bit tortuous to get the theme in, but on the whole an enjoyable crossword.
