Harry and Meghan, through their spokesperson, have confirmed they have been asked to "vacate" Frogmore Cottage. They have not called it an "eviction". The press has done that.
Rebecca English has written for the Daily Mail that this was done to make Royal Lodge available to William and his family, because apparently, it's a big problem that their children are sometimes invited to parties at houses bigger than their own. Her words, not mine.
Andrew, is apparently, fighting the move.
It's popcorn time in the House of Windsor. Harry and Meghan are well out of it, in my view, and if this means they won't be coming to the Coronation, I think it's a great move for all parties.
This way, they can focus on their life "overseas" and their next "official" Royal visit may well be in 20 or so years, for the funeral of Charles, if he lives as long as his mother.
Rebecca writes about the security implications of this decision, and says, correctly, I think, that this "eviction" means Charles may not see his grandchildren Archie and Lili again, but as she says, he made this decision "as a King not a Father" so I am sure he will have taken all the implications on board and made the decision anyway.
The Windsors are essentially Darwinian. Their instinct is survival. If it means they cut off a non-conforming member, they will do it, to survive. They have ice in their veins. It is what has made them survive upheaval after upheaval. I hope Harry and Meghan take the lesson: there is no home here for them, there is no father, and no brother, no family. Just cogs in an institution that will always act like an institution. The family they crave is the one they will create.
Harry said on Colbert that he describes his life as being about "freedom, happiness, space, clarity, and love." I sincerely hope that he and Meghan focus on that, and wish them well.
