What do you think?

I'm not surprised. I wonder if Harry and Meghan will buy a new UK residence.

And Charles obviously does not care about his brown grandchildren.

They aren’t brown are they though?

The story says they were evicted and have to move their stuff out. Harry also has to have a permanent UK residence for tax purposes and being a counsellor of state, if I recall correctly.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't spend enough time in the UK now to be considered resident there, he'll be paying taxes in the US instead. I don't believe that having a house in the UK would make any difference unless you're spending several months living there.

AmandaJonah · 01/03/2023 13:51

I agree he will already be paying tax in the US.

DysonSpheres · 01/03/2023 13:52

Lets see if I can make this work:

DysonSpheres · 01/03/2023 13:54

Follow the link...but do you dare??😂

Roussette · 01/03/2023 13:54

@DysonSpheres Yes! No idea why mine didn't work. I am now laughing my head off at this yet again!

AmandaJonah · 01/03/2023 13:41

@ScribblingPixie They were paying rent on Frogmore. So legally it is their place. And it looks like Charles may have acted illegally. If he has I hope Harry sues him.
Oh but then he can't! Charles is above the law and can do what he wants.

It's highly unlikely that this has been done illegally. I can't see on what grounds you'd suggest that's so. The Sun reported last spring that the lease was a 12 month rolling one. It sounds actually as if they have been given extra time to move their things out.

And nobody made a fuss because:

  1. Charles was a grown man.
  2. Charles had announced his separation from Diana three days before Anne's wedding. That announcement is what attracted press attention.

@AmandaJonah The poster was talking about Anne's first marriage in 1973. The Queen was happy for her daughter to get married on her son's birthday - I'm sure it was due to logistics rather than being an unfeeling parent.

AmandaJonah · 01/03/2023 14:01

@ScribblingPixie Omid Scobie on twitter is saying the lease had been lengthened and the Sussex had paid the rent in advance, If that is true then Charles may have broken the law. But even if he has nothing will happen to him.

Okay. Charles was still an adult of 25 years old. Celebrating his birthday on another day is no big deal. But when you are 4 years old a birthday is very important. And most parents would want grandparents to be there.
But Charles does not seem interested in his grandchildren anyway, so why would this be different?

Nor me. Not ever. Not even one minute. However, I, unfortunately see pics of contestants pop up on feeds so picked that programme off the top of my head.
We have something in common! I'm amazed!

@AmandaJonah I'm sure his lawyers will have ensured that the S21 has been issued correctly, it's usually a minimum of two months' notice. If they have until the summer, he may have given them four or five-months' notice, well beyond the legal minimum.

@AmandaJonah It's a State occasion and Charles can't simply pick his preferred date, given the huge amount of preparation required. He'll have been told that May 6th is a good date for the country, it's nothing to do with his personal preferences. Archie won't be traumatized or upset at all, although his parents will undoubtedly make a big fuss about it. Most adults would accept that it's part of Grandpa's job though.

DysonSpheres · 01/03/2023 14:11

@Roussette

You make fun, but did you know riding side-saddle is...courageous?

I bet you're no where near as rebellious and strong <seductive squint>

It's very courageous and I am beyond humbled at anyone who does it! especially if they have red hair too!

Of course he can pick a preferred date. You really think if Charles had said can we have it on the 13th of May instead that would not be possible.

@AmandaJonah He's not Henry VIII, he can't say "Off with their heads" if he doesn't like something.

This is a State occasion and May 6th will have been suggested to him for various reasons, he can't just pick a date.

AmandaJonah · 01/03/2023 14:18

Of course he has a say. You do know those who might suggest a date are his employees?
He has a say.

AmandaJonah · 01/03/2023 14:18

And if it had been Camilla's birthday you can be sure he would have said no way.

Diana was 12 when Anne married on 14 November 1973 (Prince Charles’ birthday). So no divorce announcement.

When they were on the balcony, the crowd all sang happy birthday.

I agree with @Lizziet64 co-ordinating diaries of RF and heads of state will have been enough of a headache.

We all have to do things on our birthdays we would choose not to e.g. exams, operations, work, being at war etc.

There will still be time for Archie to celebrate his birthday.

He has a say.

You don't think that MI5, MI6, the British government, etc. would have a say as well? Do you think that a constitutional monarch could overrule them?

I'm not suggesting that Charles didn't have some say, but there must be multiple reasons why that particular date was chosen, it wouldn't be his decision alone.
