My friend just sent me this. I adore Gabor mate and the work he does. His book 'in the realms of hungry ghosts' was life changing for me who had suffered serious addiction issues. But am I being too harsh to feel disappointed he's jumping on this band wagon of garbage. I'm sorry but Harry we're sick of listening to your trauma and no offence you've sung it to death, (and I don't even think it's that bad relative to how much he has gone on and on about it) and trauma aside you're a complete hypocrite with how you've treated you're family and the trauma you've put them through!!

"Lord, this is so scary to read."

"Wow. That gave me the chills."

"This interviews is dangerous and shouldn't have been aired."

😂😂
Now, I know a lot of you and your families have been diagnosed and are clearly projecting. But the OTT responses..............These threads, I can't 😂😂😂

Bless you - it has flown well above your head. Just carry on pmsl in the corner while the adults discuss it.

Howsimplywonderful · 06/03/2023 09:05

@notanotheroneagain

Your last post in one of the most ignorant I’ve ever read on mumsnet , I am simply ashamed for you

Dear lord. This is about serious mental health issues and people have shared very personal experiences.
I don't think your comment, or emojis, are appropriate.

Plitvice · 06/03/2023 09:11

Now why doesn't that surprise me?

They have name changed is what they did. There is a MH board right here on MN.
Reading this thread did in some way explain the baffling hate against this couple. Projection.

What it does not explain however, is how people affected with MH issues are so harsh on someone that they, themselves see as having MH issues, considering they have the same problems. Riddle me that.

Anybody who has read you posts would have noticed that you don't sound like a shining beacon of good mental health yourself.

Never said I was.

Nether do you, for that matter.

Stop adjudicating then because your idols aren't popular. If you don't like the discussion, jog on.

Hooklander · 06/03/2023 09:28

Might I suggest that the posts with the many emojis and the 'hate' fixation are best ignored? There's absolutely nothing to be gained from engaging with these posts.

Maireas · 06/03/2023 09:29

I can't "riddle" you anything, @notanotheroneagain .
I know there's a MH board.
It's not about "hate".
I've found out a lot about ADHD and other issues. Not everything is about Meghan and Harry.

You're absolutely right, of course. I suppose it just encourages them.

MagnificentSeaWolf · 06/03/2023 09:31

I actually think interviews of this kind are very dangerous. Rightly or wrongly, Harry is seen as a mental health advocate. He has a platform and people listen to him. His remarks around smoking weed and taking hallucinogenics as helping his mental health are so so dangerous - especially in the context of this interview as a discussion around trauma and mental health problems.

It is personal to me. A family member of my own has seemingly destroyed his mental health using cannabis (which led to other drugs). The cannabis however was the tipping point. He turned from a gentle, kind, almost naive person into a paranoid, violent, at times dangerous person. It has different effects on different people. My family member did not have the connections of Harry and I am assuming a 'safe' supply of drugs - instead buying from dealers and then forming dangerous social connections.

I just worry young people can hear comments like Harry's and think smoking weed and taking mind altering drugs is the solution to their problems. Look at Harry he starting taking drugs, is now Happy, free and living his best life in a mansion in LA.

Utter idiot.

There's something tediously formulaic about them.

Howsimplywonderful · 06/03/2023 09:37

@MagnificentSeaWolf

That is my biggest fear for my kids.

Plitvice · 06/03/2023 09:46

Agree. My fear is that now that he has started building up a profile like this, he may be setting himself up as a therapist in the near future (anybody can call themselves one). What if he uses his money to provide charitable outreach to disadvantaged/vulnerable young people and makes things much worse for them through sheer ignorance?

MagnificentSeaWolf · 06/03/2023 09:59

His problem is he doesn't know what he doesn't know - massive arrogance to think his constant sharing (particularly of drug use) is 'an act of service'.

My family member served time in prison for drug use and his futures is bleak. We can chart the problems quite clearly back to him starting to use cannabis. It didn't 'relax his mind' it made him increasingly paranoid. He now doesn't have a penny to his name and sofa surfs (in his late 30s).

Harry has never had to question whether there is a bed to sleep in at night, whether the supply of his drugs of choice are safe, whether the drugs he is imbibing have been cut with something quite dangerous. He has had teams of people his entire life to quite literally protect him. He is not going to found unconscious in the street, people stepping over his legs. He doesn't have to wait several months for a mental health referral. He doesn't have to work manual labour temporary jobs because those are those only people who don't do criminal background checks...

Maireas · 06/03/2023 10:06

@MagnificentSeaWolf
A very sad story, and one which I've come across in schools. They think cannabis is a safe, cool relaxant. It is not.
"Smoking weed in the garden while Meghan and Archie slept" does not mean that he is a happy and relaxed husband and father.
I agree with you and @Plitvice - he could easily set himself up as a therapist. His wealth, status, connections, entitlement would all make this possible.
It also solves the problem of what he does next. He can't just do interviews about how bad is life has been for the next 40 years.

Howsimplywonderful · 06/03/2023 10:09

The whole thing reminds me of Timothy Leary.

jeffgoldblum · 06/03/2023 10:18

It seems every time Harry shares more information he upsets more people!

I know people on here may not be happy to click onto a Daily Mail link, but it's a very interesting article by a psychiatrist, Dr Max Pemberton.
It echoes what @MagnificentSeaWolf and others have said.

Plitvice · 06/03/2023 10:25

The only redeeming aspect of his behaviour is that many young people who observe him directly will see him as a sad case of why kids should NOT do drugs and be put off doing them. He embodies the worst qualities of a long term user (making unreasonable financial demands and unfairly pressurizing family members, tediously recycling and recounting his dull past experiences in various forms). It is just on a grander scale than usual.

Most teenagers see Harry and Meghan as a sad, old farts and don't know why they is grappling for public attention and trying to get down with the kids.
