There's some very interesting stuff in Norman Baker's book "And What Do You Do?" about the RF and in particular Andrew's finances, and some rather more up to date stuff in Tina Brown's "Palace Papers".

Yes, he had to pay Virginia Giuffre $12m (or was it £?) but that was largely financed by a. selling the Swiss chalet and b. Bank of Mum, allegedly. He got £15m for selling the awful "Southyork" house that ER2 gave him as a wedding present. Fergie got very little when they divorced. I'm not clear on whether the £249k pa that the article mentions was in addition to the money he got from the Sovereign Grant or if that was it.

He is in a very awkward position with no real way of making a living, but he is an appalling, entitled boor (at the very least) so my agony on his behalf is, shall we say, livable-with.

Even worse in the Paradise papers. The Queen invested £10M in offshore funds. Avoiding tax of course.

Very unsavoury

Is there a list somewhere of what each member of the Royal Family get from the Sovereign Grant?

I don't think so. The civil list used to say who was paid what but it was replaced by the sovereign grant which is a set amount that covers a list of duties it must fund. I think the queen used to pay her relations directly from her own money, Prince Charles funding his own children too, but travel expenses, etc, came from the SG.

feellikeanalien · 19/02/2023 18:22

Well maybe the RF can buy him out of his lease and he can get a nice two up two down in Woking. I mean now that the kids have left home surely it makes sense to downsize.

SqueakyDinosaur · 19/02/2023 18:36

Somewhere close to a branch of Pizza Express might be handy?

feellikeanalien · 19/02/2023 18:39

😁

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/02/2023 18:39

As with all speculation I'll believe this when I see it, though if would be very good news if it was true. TBH I'd be surprised if Charles could afford to upset someone who's known him most of his life and will have the inside track, but time will tell

Also surprised about the comments that Andrew may not be able to afford Royal Lodge's upkeep himself; I'd have thought there are still dubious oligarchs with morals even lower than his who'd still fund him, but who knows?

cosmiccosmos · 19/02/2023 18:46

I agree with @Puzzledandpissedoff, I'll believe when I see it.

Frankly I think the RF are now so adept at manipulating the press and public that all this is carefully choreographed.

Slimmed fiend monarchy but still spending a fortune on coronation - smoke and mirrors.

And if the Queen bankrolled Andrew to the tune of a quarter of a million every year, does that mean she also forked over the money he is reported to have paid to settle the civil case against him? Did she pay for his lawyers - the lawyers who worked to keep him from facing his accuser in a court of law?

Disgraceful, if so.

The Queen bankrolled Andrew, paid for lawyers and paid the £12.5 million to make the court case against Andrew go away.
Not surprising that Charles does not want to bankroll Andrew.

The Civil List used to detail who got what. Now it all goes to the Monarch to distribute as they wish. Which is why it is nonsense when people talk about the Queen or the King being generous in funding costs for working members of the Royal family. They are given taxpayers money to do exactly that.

Exactly - plus of course a chance to paint Charles as the principled good guy

When has anyone said the Queen was generous paying Princess Anne's train fare?

ProseccoOnIce · 19/02/2023 19:00

They will always protect the image of the RF above anything else.

Any association or support of with Andrew will be seen as damaging.

I think he is a good guy. And I'm really looking forward to the Coronation. I can't wait to see the crown actually going on his head. If he lives,as long as his mum and granny, I might not see another coronation so I want to enjoy this one in riotous colour.
I wonder what they'll all be wearing. 😊

He's turned down the satin breeches apparently

OutofEverything · 19/02/2023 19:13

@MarshaMelrose There have been multiple comments on here about the Queen and Charles being generous in paying for Kate, Harry and Meghan's clothes for public occasions when they were working Royals.
The money is taxpayers money given to the monarch to hand out for this purpose. No generosity required.

Yep and try and make people forget about the suitcases full of cash.

Brefugee · 19/02/2023 19:14

Andrew was in the navy for quite a few years, surely he has a pension? you claim military pensions when you turn 60, usually

OutofEverything · 19/02/2023 19:18

@Brefugee Have you seen the kind of lifestyle Andrew lives. His military pension will not go far. He gets reportedly £20000 a year pension.

Brefugee · 19/02/2023 19:19

that sounds like a him-problem to me [girn]

The queen never paid for their clothes. TBH, I don't think any clothes are funded through the Sovereign Grant - other than staff uniforms. The Queen gave those who worked on her behalf, and didn't have an income stream, money from her own private account.

Prince Charles was totally responsible for funding William and Harry and their families. I guess W&H are funding themselves now.

I think those posts were about Harry saying his father refused to pay for Meghan. Cue the pile on over who had more spent on them clotheswise, Meghan or Kate. (Which I'm not getting into because I don't care. They both looked nice. ) I don't think it was about Charles being generous. Maybe others remember it differently, though.

LizziesTwin · 19/02/2023 19:34

William is now in receipt of the funds from the Duchy of Cornwall.
