Archwell Execs Part Ways

musingsinmidlife · 28/01/2023 20:57

Following the departure of Rebeca Sananes (podcast producer) and Mandana Dayani (president) last month, Ben Browning (head of content) and Fara Taylor (marking lead) are also leaving Archwell. Ben had replaced Catherine St Laurent (chief of staff) who left in March 2021.

This brings the total staff who have left the Sussex team in the last 3 years to 17

Going through employees like a Vindaloo goes through my d.h.

17 out of how many? 🤔

That's a fair question.

And what does this Archewell actually do? Maybe it's winding down now if the 'truths' are out there or in the pipe.

Bellalalala · 28/01/2023 21:22

When you look at work place attrition you look at percentages.

Percentages over all. Percentages at role type/ level etc. but you also have to look at the percentage in the industry to look and see if it’s unusual.

17 sounds a lot, but it may not be.

donquixotedelamancha · 28/01/2023 21:43

And what does this Archewell actually do?

On the commercial side, it makes podcasts and TV programs.

On the non-profit side it announces 'partnerships' with organisations that actually do things and list successes like 'promoting altruism', suggesting people spend 40 minutes mentoring a 40 year old woman and giving 'digital civil rights awards'. This 'charitable' activity is paid for by donations from others rather than any money from the Sussexes (which is in keeping with the MO of the rest of the royal family).

A cynical person might suggest that the non-profit side is entirely an advertising and PR company for the commercial arm which produces tokenistic events themed around popular causes.

Source?

If true then the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no doubt be using this opportunity to take stock of their life and projects outside of the Royal Family and see if the vehicle they initially constructed is fit for purpose moving forward. Normal growing pains I would have thought for a "startup", particularly so when you don't have the power of the state and the Palace behind you. The secret of sucess is to get stuck in with passion and energy and don't worry if you make mistakes along the way which Harry has amptly shown in his efforts in creating Invictus and the Duchess has in her long and varied film career, blogs and social projects. Always a better strategy than to dolittle and then carp about the efforts of others.

Not sure if it was intentional but this is a terrific portmanteau: amptly

No it wasn't, it's a typo but I like it ! OED here we come , how language is born and life itself through happy transcription errors. I had to look up portmanteau as well - was aware but didn't know the exact meaning but will be using it henceforward. Another current favourite word is "curtilage" once you discover it , it can take on a life of it's own.

AliceOlive · 29/01/2023 00:27

Oh, never heard this word “curtilage”. I do t think I’ll forget it though.

I have a coworker that seems to make up words accidentally, but all of them sound slightly family and make perfect sense.

I’ve been playing NYT spelling bee recently. It’s a wonderful way to learn new words. Unfortunately not free.

StrapOnYourHeroHair · 29/01/2023 00:33

I think independent of overall staff numbers (which I doubt is high), the fact that it’s a high number of people at leadership level (which is definitely not going to be a big population) speaks volumes.

Reminds me of boobage which is another of those.

I didn't know she had a long and varied film career - what has she been in? (Not counting tv movies of which I imagine there have been a few.)

Fill your boots. You just know William is so jealous of his younger brother.

Ben Browning seems to have worked about the same length of time in his previous job. About two years is the recommended maximum length of time if you are ambitious. You do not stay for 27 years.

I think the only person to have shown jealousy is Harry, he is jealous of William as laid out in his book.

This is just two brothers ribbing each other, and because they're also in different services.

They seemed fine to me and actually like they enjoy the banter.

I couldn’t find a total. Sites that give number of employees say 2-10 for Archewell but no specific number and isn’t know if that was the registered number of employees when the foundation started or now.

the article I saw said they will not be replacing the four that left over the past month and that they will be running the foundation themselves from here out.

while looking for a total again now I saw one place that said the 17 included two nannies and a PA so it might not be a 17 Archewell employees and just 17 employed by H and M.

Agree 2 years is about standard for anyone under 50. Maybe they're leaving as the main deliverables have now been completed, Netflix and Harry's book.

Harry plays the I know I'm thick but I put the hours in - William looks on enviously as Harry details all the stuff he does with vim and enthusiasm, William keeps lobbing in ginger slurs ,Harry points out the cameraman is ginger , but he repeats again. William indulges in vagaries and tops it all with of course when I am head of the armed forces to trump Harry. William has an arrogant swagger of when I will be King vibes and all this is a bit beneath me whearas Harry comes over as top bloke who isn't afraid of getting his hands dirty and do the work.

Yep - seen that clip before and I thought that. A harsher tone from William.

Is that it? I'm not sure 5 films and some tv movies constitutes a long and varied film career. (Not counting ones where she is uncredited or the character is so minor they don't have a name.)
