Charity Engagement Yesterday

The Royal Family attend public engagements that are jollies such as Film Premiers and Wold Cup Finals. But yesterday William and Kate visited a Food Bank. So what did this work involve?

William and Kate travelled 10-15 minutes to the Windsor Foodshare, a food bank. They played around with a shopping cart and cracked “jokes” about who was being more useful (neither). They met with some of the food bank workers and barely spent an hour on this photo-op.

That is one of their average 150 engagements a year.

'Because they keep making mistakes.'

Do they though? Or is it just that the republican/Sussex supporters/denigrates just can't help themselves and it wouldn't matter if they were brilliant in every move they make, they'd still get criticised.

What mistakes do they keep making exactly?

If the late Queen had visited the foodbank, would she have gone wearing a jumper and trousers? No she would have worn the full rigout.
Kate wasn't dressed like a 'fashion model. She was wearing a pretty unremarkable outfit. Some of you sound like Hilary Mantel or Nina Myskow

She isn't the Queen

OutForBreakfast · 29/01/2023 19:44

@Coxspurplepippin Caribbean tour was the major one. And Earthshot - inviting loads of celebrities to the ceremony and not the finalists. Only now are the 2022 finalists meeting possible investors.
And lots of small mistakes like posting on social media about the visit to the foodbank with only photos of William and Kate and no link to the foodbank and no urge to donate.
They make everything appear simply as a photo op as if they do not give a shit about the causes.

😆Oh but she will be and therein lies the problem for many.

The Caribbean Tour wasn't anything they did 'wronf' though, was it - the Belize section was a small group of locals with an agenda, if Caribbean countries want to get rid of the monarchy and no longer want to be part of the Commonwealth, that's fine - it's what voting is for, but to blame William and Kate personally for this stuff seems a bit of a stretch.

I'm not sure I understand your point about the Earthshot winners only now meeting investors - surely the winners were announce in December 2022, then there would have been significant work out into matching the winners with interested investors and setting up meetings etc, which is happening what, six or seven weeks later with Christmas and New Year in the middle - pretty good going, no? There were far too many people involved to invite them to the ceremony - some of the award winners had dozens of people working on the projects - maybe they'll change the format next time so one or 2 reps from each project are invited and then watch the bitching about air miles, why wasn't xyz invited etc etc.

Instagram pics of food bank visit show lots of volunteers. Putting up donation links could be perceived as politicising the visit. Not beyond the wit of woman to find Windsor foodshare if people want to donate.

Coxspurplepippin · 29/01/2023 20:07

Wronf? Just created a new word Grin

Why could they not have donated food from Windsor Farm shop, which stocks goods from the Royal Estate and Duchy of Cornwall?

Probably because all the republicans drawn to the Royal Family board like moths to a flame would then start complaining about how patronising of the couple to just hand out expensive food that food bank recipients can't afford and treating foodbank users like charity cases and why don't they actually turn up and see how a food bank works? which they did, except that's wrong as well.

Exactly this.

Exactly. The constant denigration of (mainly) a woman just to try and make another woman look better is utterly ridiculous. And you can dress it all up in Republican sentiments all you like but that's basically what it boils down to. This is no different to what the RF have been doing for decades with their patronages.

I've checked back and been so far unsuccessful, but I can't see any criticism of Prince Harry when he popped into a food bank in 2019.

Sorry for slight derail but won’t Kate be queen consort like camilla? As a posed the the queen as in the queen?

Camilla is the Queen. Like Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was Queen to her husband King George. A Queen is of lesser rank than a King regnant. Queen Elizabeth ii was a Queen regnant (reigning in her own right) and so her husband was of lesser rank than her. Camilla has been styled Queen consort due to sensitivities over Diana. But she is the Queen. So Catherine will be Queen

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 29/01/2023 20:37

KC has just made a massive donation to national FBs of £1,000,000 surely that's good enough for you @AshTreesEverywhere They are members of the 'Firm' so they are raising awareness as part of the overall projects

ArcaneWireless · 29/01/2023 20:46

A thousand times yes to your last post.

This sums it up.

SenecaFallsRedux · 29/01/2023 23:27

Camilla has been styled Queen consort due to sensitivities over Diana.

I think it's as much to distinguish her from the late Queen. To many, "the Queen" still means the late Queen. I think eventually "consort" will be dropped from Camilla's title as it's not necessary. As you say, Camilla is the Queen.

No? I just get bored out my skull with every thread descending into H&M bashing when it is clearly a different subject we are trying to talk about.

Why do you spend your life on Royal threads? Literally I see you no where else and yet the minute there's a royal thread, bam here you are telling us all how crap they are. We. Know.

It is because Charles promised the public that Camilla would never be called Queen. As soon as the Queen died, Camilla did become Queen and Charles wants her to be called Queen. So they settled on Queen Consort instead, and as soon as people have got used to that, they will drop the Consort part.

Delectable · 30/01/2023 01:36

Ofcourse. Their star and assistants get busy planning it to a T. Drive them there tell them who they'll speak too and what to say. What hard work. They need more time off to plan Charles's expensive coronation! 😂

OutForBreakfast · 30/01/2023 01:42

At Foodbank:
William asked: “What is the hardest thing? How do you start setting up a food bank?”
The food bank official said that they have a lot of generous donors, and Kate answered, “I’m just learning,”

Honestly you do not need strategy and preparation meetings for this level of discussion.

vera99 · 30/01/2023 02:04

There is a bit in Harry’s book where he talks about being served dinner in silver domes by butlers then he says it sounds luxurious but there was just cottage pie & fish fingers underneath. They live in absolute luxury and most people in the UK accepts it. It sounds like they have abysmal PR and no overarching media strategy and messaging just a load of disparate photo ops that just to serve to illustrate they haven't got an overarching media strategy and messaging.

Tbf this is 2023 and children and adults are going to bed hungry and in their millions, our health services are collapsing and people can't afford the rent and what exactly do the BRF bring to that desperate party other than faux concern.

vera99 · 30/01/2023 02:11

William whilst getting 'stuck in' chucked an aside to Kate "too much nattering" - she should have told him to eff off and who the hell did he think he was the bloody King. Everyone would have laughed and they would be on the way to becoming human. They need a comedy writer or an official fool who speaks truth to power.
