So? She wasn't meeting him as the future king. She was meeting him as her boyfriend's brother. I wouldn't have any nation till all this kicked off that I should greet him with a degree of formality that comes from his role when I was meeting him as family, not in his public role.

I must be terribly dense then! Or irreverent maybe. If I met William through work or something I would greet him formally and in business attire. If one of my children ends up marrying one of his and I meet him as my child's FIL I wouldn't give his role as heir (or probably even monarch by then) much consideration.

That’s why the Royal Family cones across as utterly ridiculous. Roles come before family. Stupidly dysfunctional and stuck in the past.
