I keep hearing this rumour and I'm just curious to know where it comes from? Where is the evidence?

@ArcaneWireless , yes I think I did read your thread about then! , I don't think I was a member at the time? , but I used to read the threads before I registered.
I'm sure I recognise a few posters names from then too! .
That's why I find it remarkable that those that defend some are so awful to others!

ArcaneWireless · 07/04/2023 18:31

@Maireas I too got the question about my pregnancies and the colour…

One was properly snidey. The others I believed to be just curious. And I thought that was ok because there genuinely wasn’t any malice meant.

That "not brown enough" has proper made me tearful. I know how much that must have distressed you.

Cokefans · 07/04/2023 18:47

@Whaeanui not that new - been here long enough to see what I’m commenting on

jeffgoldblum · 07/04/2023 18:47

@Maireas and @ArcaneWireless , Flowers for both of you , I'm actually feeling teary reading 'not brown enough' comment too! , bullying and awful behaviour!
No one should be made to feel this way !
I'm so, so sorry.

Maireas · 07/04/2023 18:47

I understand what you're saying, @Whaeanui , but the fall out from the interview was significant - many people were shocked by the claims, linking Archie's colour to him not being a Prince. Their choice to talk about it, her feelings about her treatment. Ok.
Then Harry gave the Tom Bradby interview to promote Spare, and claimed they'd never accused the RF of racism, it was the British press. I just felt frustrated with him. It was such a serious issue. Why deny what was said? I don't understand.

Maireas · 07/04/2023 18:51

@jeffgoldblum thank you so much. There are genuinely so many kind and thoughtful people on MN, like yourself. Like others on here, and you probably, I've spent my whole life fighting this.
I cannot fathom what's gone on though, and why it's all got so destructive.

Cokefans · 07/04/2023 18:51

Again - there were CONCERNS about how dark a child’s skin would be- not speculation about whether he would have brown eyes or ginger hair - an insinuation that that would be a bad thing. How anyone can say that should be kept hidden is beyond me. IF that’s how it was. And there is no evidence at all that ANY current royal family is gay and that it is being hidden like a nasty secret. That’s nasty speculation and says more about the person saying it than the royals.

Cokefans · 07/04/2023 18:52

Royal family member I meant obv

Cokefans · 07/04/2023 18:54

Especially not to save them getting bad press!! And this is from a monarchist - I don’t even like Harry and not keen on Meghan

jeffgoldblum · 07/04/2023 18:55

@Maireas , sadly I can only assume that most humans are in fact unempathic assholes! .

ArcaneWireless · 07/04/2023 18:55

jeffgoldblum · 07/04/2023 19:01

Not on the same level obviously, but I told a painful story a while ago on here about my best friend and I being relentlessly bullied ( she was a poc, also not quite brown enough!) , I was ridiculed and called a liar using the token black friend! On here , it got quite nasty !
Posts were deleted, that poster is still here and still posting even today as is another.
Both acting holier than thou!
It makes me very cross.

Whaeanui · 07/04/2023 19:04

As Maori people are brown, not black, we now come in all kinds of shades and it’s extremely common in NZ to say that someone ‘isn’t brown enough’ or worse you get asked ‘what percentage are you?’ or ‘ well you can’t appropriate the culture and say you’re Maori if you’re white’ or ‘ you look what, 1/16th so you’re not really Maori’ and crap like that. I regularly got asked what percentage I am even though I am brown- I have siblings who are white with brown eyes, white with blue eyes… they get this kind of thing all the time. It feels horrible to be analysed in this way. Even worse is that it was government policy way back to encourage mixed breeding as they put it, to breed out brown Maori. In Hawaii if you were less than 50%, you weren’t ‘native’. My mum got asked how she felt ‘about having white kids’ ( she’s quite dark ). It is incredibly dehumanising. Obviously there are people who ask about genetics and differences in my family/whanau in a non offensive way which is very different.

Whaeanui · 07/04/2023 19:05

@jeffgoldblum awful. I get why you’re annoyed they’re still here. So is someone who wrote nasty things about my family & mocked me because I wouldn’t korero in Maori. I’m sorry you were bullied it’s not nice at all

Maireas · 07/04/2023 19:06

Calling you a liar - the arrogance. The assumption. Talking about bullying, or racism or (I would imagine) homophobia is such a difficult thing because you feel so vulnerable. Too many people make light of it and even find the spreading of hatred amusing - or worse - they've asked for it.

alltoowe · 07/04/2023 19:06

Apparently Rose's twin boys are actually William's...

Maireas · 07/04/2023 19:09

@Whaeanui - what percentage are you? Like you're some bloody cleaning product or face cream and not a person! That's horrible. It reminds me of the "one drop" rule they had in the USA re African Americans.

Whaeanui · 07/04/2023 19:21

@Maireas yes exactly! It doesn’t matter how many times it was said, it was never any less hurtful. It was said more often to my white siblings who really felt completely othered. Is their mother not their mother? How are they any less Maori than me? We aren’t just ‘brown people’ either, we have many distinctive characteristics and features beyond skin.

ArcaneWireless · 07/04/2023 19:22

@jeffgoldblum That is shocking and shameful but sadly not a surprise.

@Whaeanui What percentage? That’s awful. 😔. Dehumanising indeed.

I do completely agree that it is how differences are spoken about that matters.

Maireas · 07/04/2023 19:25

Indeed. Sometimes, at school in London, my children were asked "what race are you?" - we always told them to reply "the human race".
It's all impacted so much, that was the subject of my Master's degree - Race Relations in the UK.

Whaeanui · 07/04/2023 19:26

@ArcaneWireless thank you. It just gets tiring doesn’t it? My mum is an old woman now and still gets street abuse- racism. On the street! It is sometimes just exhausting and maybe I don’t always deal with it the right way because I’m old and tired 😂😞

Maireas · 07/04/2023 19:29

It takes a certain kind of person to abuse an elderly woman on the street.

ArcaneWireless · 07/04/2023 19:31

My personal favourite?

‘where are you from? ‘
then ‘no but where are you from When they don’t like the answer.

I’m old and an arse. If they don’t take the telling from my first answer and persist, I tell them ‘ah you’ve got me’ and say I am from a nearby village.

They then look all puzzled because there are basically four old local families there and a load of sheep. 😁

Whaeanui · 07/04/2023 19:31

Yes. I also had a friend in London who is black, she was spat on at the bus stop in Hammersmith as they yelled racist abuse. She’s a disabled elderly woman. What the heck is wrong with people?!
