This was in a yougov poll. Support for the monarchy is at an all time low amongst younger people.

Source?

If true, I think that probably reflects on how poorly educated and ignorant of our constitution and history young people are today.

Do you mean that the number of supporters is actually surprisingly high considering the monarchy are historically just racist leeches, who got wealthy completely unethically and protect their sexual predator offspring?

Sure.

Would be interested to know if there are others being left to defend themselves against the wolf pack of paparazzi to the same extent they were.

Would be even more interested in you showing us actual evidence that they were ever followed by a wolf pack of paparazzi from 2016 when Meghan was outed as a royal girlfriend onwards.

(there’s a reason why the Netflix trailers used shots of paparazzi from other events, and following other people you know).

They clearly haven’t been helped by videos of other people and events being used in their docuseries.

But do you discount all the videos showing photographers /press harassing them in the states and Canada? That would a bit like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Not sure to what extent M was chased as such by the press prior to leaving the UK- although they seemed to continue to print ongoing stories about her. She clearly sells a lot of papers.

“They” didn’t pay for Andrew’s security, we did. Now we’re not. As a taxpayer I’m not prepared to pay for security for a multi millionaire couple who don’t live in the U.K.

As to the Queen’s behaviour, if I was in my mid 90s knowing how short my time was I wouldn’t want to cast out one of my children either. I don’t suppose many people would if they were honest.

Then you wouldn't be fit to be queen and neither was she.

If protecting your sexual predator son trumps the interests of the country you're meant to serve, maybe you're in the wrong role.

Hepwo · 20/01/2023 17:20

Young people!

We wanted the monarchy abolished in 1977 too, check out the Sex Pistols record Anarchy in the UK. Half the country were on strike then too.

We did actually abolish the monarchy once too, the act of abolishing the kingship was an Act of the Rump Parliament that abolished the monarchy in England in the aftermath of the Second English Civil War.

We executed Charles I on 30 January 1649. He was murdering his own citizens though.

MarshaMelrose · 20/01/2023 17:27

...But then Cromwell banned Christmas and kissing and we asked the king to come back again. Whereupon we feasted and kissed and shagged all year round. Hurrah!

GloomyDarkness · 20/01/2023 17:38

Then you wouldn't be fit to be queen and neither was she.

I also though that was most of the argument against monarchy - there is no fitness test it's all inherited with the instability and pop luck that can bring.

We have occasionally shifted to another family member and once to a Lord protector - who then dissolved parliament and tried to pass on position to his eldest son.

In what way was she “protecting” him? And from what?

She paid his legal fees for a start.

And no doubt didn't come clean about everything she knew about his circle and connections that could potentially aid the investigation.

That's a great point. Exactly, it's not democratic and we once decided this is somehow sensible.

It's completely absurd. The monarchy brings nothing but shame to a country that is meant to be civilised.

But tbh the longer I observe how British people behave, vote, how they form their opinions, the more I become convinced they get what they deserve.

Blossomtoes · 20/01/2023 18:20

The more I hear from anti monarchists the more I’m struck by how many of them appear not to be British.

No. I meant exactly what I said. Non British - could be American, Australian, European. You’ve just outed yourself perfectly.

If this was about me you're wrong - I am British. Well, half British. Half Eastern European, but don't worry, I'm not here to steal your job. Now am I allowed to participate?

You knew exactly what @Blossomtoes meant! , take your underhand racist accusations and put them with the rest of your rubbish.

If you refer to British people as “they”, what inference was I supposed to draw?

TrashyPanda · 20/01/2023 18:26

babsanderson · 19/01/2023 17:22

@Coxspurplepippin Maybe? Or maybe as older people die off the number of people who want the monarchy abolished will increase?

if your logic is that only old people want the monarchy, then you are going to have to stop the whole population from ageing.

Because while I belong to a portion of the group I described (British) I don't belong to the other part (British but voting in an idiotic way, cherishing the royal family and deciding Megan Markle is the devil).

They seems fitting as I'd like to far remove myself from the latter.

MarshaMelrose · 20/01/2023 18:31

How do you vote?

Well for a start I wouldn't vote for Brexit, and definitely wouldn't start then complaining about the very obvious and expected outcomes of that vote.

I would have given it one second of critical thought instead of buying into a campaign targeting beliefs rooted in bigotry.

This is kind of what I mean, the wider public/majority gets what they deserve. I just feel bad for people who don't vote for this crap and are left to deal with the fall out.

Coxspurplepippin · 20/01/2023 18:36

I didn't vote for Brexit either. I don't know if I'm British now. Or the right kind of British. (Confuzzled).

Good. Glad to know I have your sympathies.

PA played a played a prominent role in his dad’s official funeral ceremony beside his mother the queen. I can understand she wants her son by her side- but this was an official public event where she could have used other family members for support. She was clearly hoping to make a point- but what the late queen was hoping to achieve, we can only guess.

There isn't a right kind, but there certainly is a bigoted/stupid kind.

I've never heard a British person admit this but funnily enough most non British people I know have very different experiences living here.

Either they're all lying or maybe many British people actually are very bigoted but for some reason no one wants to admit it.

Coxspurplepippin · 20/01/2023 18:41

So are you admitting, being a British Person, to being bigoted?

It was also a family funeral at which she had to sit on her own to grieve her husband of 74 years. Do you really begrudge her comfort from whoever she chose? Some of you really don’t know how low to stoop.
