Shocked to see in this mornings Telegraph that Harry is concerned for the other "spares" He just wants to break the bad parenting pattern and stop it happening to Charlotte or George. If I was W&K I would be absolutely LIVID by now. What does anyone else think?

Why would the King be desperate to keep the peace? That ship’s sailed now.

AliceOlive · 20/01/2023 17:09

Jimmy Kimmell would roast W&K to be fair so that doesn't count.

Did you mean to say this openly? I thought it was everyone else comparing themselves to Meghan and Harry. Not Meghan and Harry (and their apologists) only measuring themselves in terms of William and Kate?

Very true.

So the Brits and now the Yanks see through your crap? Never mind, the 'Asians' will just lap up whatever rubbish any posh white guy is selling.

I suppose Peter Phillips and his selling milk to China shenanigans aren't looking so desperate now?

One small problem: Willy. Africa was his thing, he said. And he had the right to say this, or felt he did, because he was the Heir. It was ever in his power to veto my thing, and he had every intention of exercising, even flexing, that veto power.

We’d had some real rows about it, I told Teej and Mike. One day, we almost came to blows in front of our childhood mates, the sons of Emilie and Hugh. One of the sons asked: Why can’t you both work on Africa? Willy had a fit, flew at this son for daring to make such a suggestion. Because rhinos, elephants, that’s mine! It was all so obvious. He cared less about finding his purpose or passion than about winning his lifelong competition with me.

Over several more heated discussions, it emerged that Willy, when I’d gone to the North Pole, had sadly been resentful. He’d felt slighted that he hadn’t been the one invited. At the same time he also said that he’d stepped aside, gallantly, that he’d permitted me to go, indeed that he’d permitted all my work with wounded soldiers. I let you have veterans, why can’t you let me have African elephants and rhinos?

I complained to Teej and Mike that I’d finally seen my path, that I’d finally hit upon the thing that could fill the hole in my heart left by soldiering, in fact a thing even more sustainable—and Willy was standing in my way. They were aghast. Keep fighting, they said. There’s room for both of you in Africa. There’s need for you both.

I have no idea what you are trying to say with that unsourced cut and paste.

NeverEndingBoring · 20/01/2023 17:13

Where do you get that it was a selected audience of fans only rather than a change to the established protocol.

It was also rather obvious from the choreographed whopping and cheering.

Ridemeginger · 20/01/2023 17:17

Look over there, @IcedPurple , chase the squirrel!

vera99 · 20/01/2023 17:18

It's from Spare with Harry making the point that William saw Africa as his fiefdom because "African elephants and rhinos" if that ain't a racist take I don't know what is. Africa is a large continent and two white boys are fighting over it. While Harry seems to have wanted to help people, all Willy wanted was elephants and rhinos?

I guess you could interpret it that way if you unconditionally and uncritically believe everything Harry says. I think it's ridiculous to place such blind faith in anyone, especially a member of the royal family known to have an idiosyncratic relationship with the truth. But people have different levels of credulity I guess.

Ridemeginger · 20/01/2023 17:23

Please stop trying to deflect from your own racism with this whataboutery. William saw CONSERVATION as his fiefdom (if indeed he did - I wouldn't trust the word of Harry on that). He was hardly going to save rhinos and elephants at Longleat, was he? It's a completely different ballgame to your notion that "Asians" will lap up products endorsed by Harry and Meghan.

Yes, how did we get from 'Asians' desperately clamouring for rejected royals, to conservation in Africa?

Bellalalala · 20/01/2023 17:26

So Harry is doing lots of work in Africa now? As he clearly no longer needs Williams permission.

If he ever did, that is.

Shelefttheweb · 20/01/2023 17:37

Isn’t there something distinctly colonial about this?

mixedrecycling · 20/01/2023 17:38

white saviourism is not a good look, especially when twinned with a critique of empire and racism... sorry, not racism, 'unconscious bias' that he has now addressed.

What value is H bringing to Africa? (let's face it, a large continent with a huge variety of environments, cultures and contexts)

DaughterOfPsychiatrist · 20/01/2023 18:02

vera99 · 20/01/2023 16:24

Yup I think we tend to project our own biases onto this particular crystal ball. Time will tell but the Colbert interview and audience reaction took me totally by surprise as I thought Harry could crumble with a live audience when the others had been filmed and carefully choreographed set pieces. He did the exact opposite stormed the inetrview and charmed both Colbert and the audience and indeed me.

There was NO live audience for Colbert - Harry’s segment was pre taped without an audience present due to ‘security concerns’.

Harry just protecting the other "spares"
ThighMistress · 20/01/2023 18:07

When Harry saw himself in Africa, you can bet your bottom dollar it was in a White Mischief type of set up: drinking, drugs, debauchery with the aristocracy (maybe even Lord Lucan 😂 ).

Some years ago there was an attempted hijacking of a plane en route to Kenya for the New Year. It was packed with poshos….

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/01/2023 18:32

The bits and pieces of H’s work that are worthwhile (Invictus, conservation, even the charity funds from the book sales) are getting increasingly buried under the celebrity shit show

I've never believed their approach to conservation stacks up, though I did admire Harry for the Invictus work

Unfortunately that's been trashed by him making the Netherlands event once again about him, and especially by the recent revelations on just how he speaks about the disbaled - or at least ones who don't appeal to him personally

Which just leaves charity funds from the book sales, and I await receipts before assuming anything about that

MarshaMelrose · 20/01/2023 18:38

Gosh, I'm not a Harry fan and even I'm less cynical than you lot !! Harry won't do an Amber. He's pledged the money and I believe 100% that he'll pass it over.

Peverellshire · 20/01/2023 18:44

I do feel Charles may backtrack & offer an olive branch or give M & H some room to manoeuvre. What’s the alternative? & does, Harry have some bomb to potentially drop on them? What then?

Pledged what money exactly? And to whom exactly? And when?

So basically pander to Harry lest he drop some 'bomb'? Where does that end? Exile William and make him king instead?

Who cheered for Harry in the studio then?

He wouldn’t be allowed to even if he wanted to. There’s no way William would entertain the idea. The next thing will be that they’re stripped of their titles and visited by MI6 if they continue. I think that would have already happened if William was king

He was at a polo match for Sentabale, I think. He announced he was pledging $1.5m for Sentabale and £300,000 for the British charity, Wellchild.

A recorded audience, like canned laughter. We never saw the audience, did we?

I believe the phrase is “Publish and be Damned”…
