Nott Cogg - 'frat house'

The father-of-two wrote: 'I was excited to welcome Meg to my home, but also embarrassed. Nott Cott was no palace. Nott Cott was palace adjacent - that was the best you could say for it.'
As he watched Meghan walk up the garden path to his home, Prince Harry says he was 'relieved' that she 'gave no indication of disillusionment'.
However, that changed when the duchess stepped inside the cottage - where the ceilings are 'dolls' house low'.
He added: 'Then she said something about a frat house.'
Prince Harry says he had never noticed how 'shabby' the furniture in his home was before - with the then Suits actress appearing particularly unimpressed with his beanbag chair which matched his brown sofa.
After Meghan moved in, Prince Harry recalls how the couple purchased some Ikea lights and ordered a second-hand settee from sofa.com, which they'd bought with his future wife's credit card.

Is this petulant and ungrateful spun for a laugh?

Meant to say higher spec kitchen, not garden.

I read that prior to their marriage Charles offered to buy them a country estate but they turned his offer down.

They seem to have got exactly what William and Kate did upon marriage, but they were too impatient. Then they fell out with everyone.

W&K didn't move in to KP until over 2 years after their wedding ( I think it was after George was born) as it needed massive renovations. Anmer wasn;t finished until another year or so later

By 2 years after their wedding, H&M were offski

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/01/2023 19:55

There's more to whether a property is a step up or a step down than the number of rooms/interior decor ffs. On that basis my house is a step up from NC - it's about twice the size, but worth about 20% of it probably!!

BradfordGirl · 11/01/2023 19:55

William and Kate lived in Anglesy when they first married. They had Nottingham Cottage on top of the Angelesy House which is where they were living.

bakalava · 11/01/2023 19:56

😂Keep trying.

It is a step down.
The toronto house has a cinema room and a much higher spec garden and bathrooms than Nott Cottage. It is also larger and in a decent area.
Nott Cottage is designed by Wren, but is small with 1 main bedroom and 1 very small bedroom.
Yes Nottingham Cottage is on a Royal Estate.

Posters above suggest that NC would cost a few million if it were available commercially, which of course it would never be.

How much would this suburban Toronto home with its 'high spec garden' go for do you think? I doubt it would be in the millions.

Size alone is by no means the only indicator of a house's value, but perhaps to a very basic and gauche person like Meghan it would seem that way. If she loved her rented Toronto home so much, it's a shame she didn't stay there.

BradfordGirl · 11/01/2023 19:57

@StatisticallyChallenged Prince Andrew lives in a 30 room lodge for a one off payment of £1 million, that is less than Meghan's Toronto home paid for.
So why do you think a 2 bedroom cottage on the same estate would be worth more?

LadyVictoriaSponge · 11/01/2023 19:57

BradfordGirl · 11/01/2023 19:41

It was a step down.
Meghan when in Toronto lived in a three bedroom property.

Don’t be so disingenuous, even you must realise that a Christopher Wren designed detached cottage with a garden in the grounds of Kensington Palace with parking, security and housekeeping thrown in, in one of the most expensive cities on the planet is far superior to a rented 3 bed house in a Toronto suburb, even if it did have nicer furniture, Harry could have furnished Nottingham cottage beautifully if he had wanted, he is a multi millionaire for fucks sake.

And H&M had the place in the Cotswolds, did they not?

It sold for $1.6 million - the Toronto home.

Monzeitia · 11/01/2023 19:59

That’s Meghan rental in Canada and then she complains about Nott Cott, ok then

It's astounding isn't it, the ingratitude, whining, lack of self awareness, lack of motivation to do anything himself.

Bitching about his family seems to be the only thing that motivates him.

You mean the house Meghan had bought by herself?

So way less than the hypothetical value of Nott Cott, despite it being a 'step down'?

ArseInTheDogBowl · 11/01/2023 20:01

It sold for $1.6 million - the Toronto home.

And you honestly think that's more than Nott Cott is worth?

bakalava · 11/01/2023 20:01

While on the subject, the house she was raised in was also in the same league as the Toronto house but purchased by TM after his state lottery win.

My understanding is the Cotswolds house was rented.

Bought? It was rented?

Andrew doesn't own it, it's leased.

They're not on the same estate, Royal Lodge is in Windsor

I've posted a link upthread to what a similar sized property in the same postcode would cost to buy.

There's a big difference between the agreed RENT to family members and what a property would be worth on the open market

Exactly. Any property can have a 'high spec kitchen' if you throw enough money at it.

But a bog standard Toronto suburban home can never compare to a historical cottage in one of the most exclusive districts of one of the most expensive cities on earth.

It's comical how certain posters are so utterly desperate to defend every idiotic statement from this royal fool.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/01/2023 20:03

That house isn’t very attractive. But modern. Ican understand this is more Meghan’s taste.

Blossomtoes · 11/01/2023 20:04

On a two year lease.

bakalava · 11/01/2023 20:04

The 'cinema room' in the rental was the space in the basement (which so many of those houses have) with a TV plonked inside.

Velvetween · 11/01/2023 20:04

If I met a bloke who was living in one of his granny’s houses (for peppercorn rent in central London) and when he first took me home it became apparent he hadn’t properly furnished the place…I wouldn’t feel sorry for him. I’d think he was a spoilt, tight-arsed man child. And when he let me pay for the ikea tea lights and new sofa on my credit card when it was apparent he was sitting on a huge trust fund and inheritance, I’d have run like the clappers.

It looks a perfectly nice house but it's not historic or special. I'm not surprised that Meghan, and Harry, had no appreciation of it though.
