No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

They needed remade not alterations made. Those are completely different things.

go read @MoscowMules post

it will help explain it to you

Why couldn't William and Kate lighten up and act like a normal couple in their 30s (40s?) meeting their brothers new girlfriend? The younger Royals seem to want us to view them as normal people. The European royal families certainly manage it.

I'm not royal I still wouldn't like someone hugging me im not a hugger unless your my own children rarely someone else's child hugs me but actual adults? No just awkward 😳

I’m guessing the future king of England and his wife are experts at not revealing how they really feel. It’s clear that Harry was told both times and chose, for reasons of his own, not to tell Meghan. I guess he didn’t want to lose her. Any normal woman’s reaction would be to get the fuck out of there had their brother & sister in law complained about a hug!

In which case I think Harry takes some blame for setting her up to fail. HE knew William wasn't comfortable, he should have told her rather than letting her carry on. Doesn't matter if you think it's stuck up, he should have been doing everything possible to smooth her path.

May I ask the fashion-knowledgeable posters, is this likely to be damaging for Givenchy? Or a storm in a teacup?

Meh prob not. I’m sure in the French fashion world they will actually know what went on behind closed doors.

According to people I know in the industry they make most of their money in Asia, the Middle East, India and Nigeria. All places where Harry and Meghan are hugely popular. I wouldn’t be shocked if we get at least an official statement.

That's fine. You can find it awkward. But it's just an awkward hug, it isn't someone taking a shit on your living room floor.

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 10/01/2023 23:27

Clare WK has posted pics of the wedding and the bridesmaid’s dresses since so I assume they are out there as her design and work, so seems strange if they were remade by Sarah Burton’s team (which I imagine would have been a tricky scenario) and Clare WK was also at the wedding and was given an award later that M presented so it doesn’t look as if any blame or breakdown of relations occurred.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/01/2023 23:27

It does seem utterly bizarre for them to have made the dresses from measurements and not fitted them. It's so far from the couture experience isn't it?

ArseInTheDogBowl · 10/01/2023 23:27

Yes. The worst thing about all this is how abnormal William and Kate are.

Really? The worst thing about this is W&C being 'abnormal' (based on Harry's biased and unreliable account)?

Not Harry being thick enough to piss off the Taliban then? And paint a target all over his and his family's back. From the man so obsessed with 'securidee' too.

I think M’s text was pretty snippy but I’m guessing they were strained before that. So much of it though, H really didn’t set M up for success. Like when she met W for the first time. She apparently hugged him and he recoiled and H says:

‘Maybe Willy expected Meg to curtsey? It would have been protocol when meeting a member of the Royal Family for the first time, but she didn't know and I didn't tell her.'

Not that I think she should have to curtsey, but imagine finding out afterward you were supposed to do that but instead you gave a hug. I’m starting to believe she really wasn’t prepared for much at all.

Yet she met William after Andrew, Fergie and...can't remember

Wouldn't she have had to curtsey to Andrew?

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 23:28

M&H hugely popular around the world? Come on. Outside of the Uk, people hardly know who they are

I’m just really relieved for Meghan that she didn’t choose Balenciaga back then 😆

No idea, it was after the queen even I believe, but that’s what he writes.

Of course Charlotte wasn't upset about the dress. 3 year old in pretty dress would have been overjoyed, not crying about the fitting not being perfect. IF Kate actually texted that I think it was a ridiculously unfair guilt trip for Meghan. But not convinced she did.

Depends.
One of my DDs would have hated a too-big dress because it would have 'moved' and irritated her.

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 10/01/2023 23:31

Oh the three year old thing, I can totally imagine a strop. There’s a reason you see kids in Tescos wearing Spider-Man outfits with bare feet and it’s not because their mums are Marvel fans!

Shelefttheweb · 10/01/2023 23:33

I don’t like hugging. Why should I be expected to be uncomfortable because someone wants to hug me? Why can’t they loosen up a bit, relax, be warm and welcoming by just smiling and saying ‘Hi, good to meet you’ rather than impose their behaviour expectations on me?

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 23:33

I thought they had pretty high global viewing figures re their wedding?

There was a last min change to the tiara. So the delicate floral veil was suddenly paired with an Art Deco tiara and not the Spencer. So
maybe another last min decision?

Also I think I rem that the fabric for Meghans dress was specially made for her. It was a thick duchess satin. So perhaps they were waiting to get that right before they could match the flower girls?

no idea, pulling at straws, as you’re correct, It’s so far removed from the couture experience.

but the lack of Givenchy seamstresses to come over and fit- can’t figure that out

This thread is baffling me.

If your SIL spends hundreds of thousands on a wedding dress plus bridesmaid dresses and it hasn't worked out then surely you approach that with sympathy.

People saying it gives 'credence' to Kate's side? What, her smacking Meghan over the head with it being disastrous?

Surely she could muster some empathy, no? Instead of barking out drama about a 3 year old crying because the dress didn't fit (I remember being three, I used to love clopping around in my mother's too big shoes and dresses).

If it was literally anyone else causing a bride that much stress 4 days before a wedding, the whole of this website would be supporting the bride. Because it's Meghan, she's meant to accept being told her bridesmaids need new dresses and fix it herself.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/01/2023 23:18

As far as we can tell not fully, which is why Charlotte's wound up looking like this

All I know about sewing I got from the Great British Sewing Bee and even I can see that hem would have Patrick pursing his lips and Esme going “what happened here then”.

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 23:36

It was stupid to mention numbers but he had a target on his back whilst he was there & since eg the neo-nazis. I don't think the Taliban thought he was knitting during his time do you?

thistimelastweek · 10/01/2023 20:38

Meghan looked gorgeous on the day but I thought she could have done with an extra fitting too.

Me too. I was shocked on the day at how rudimentary the dress was.

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 23:36

@funnelfan they should have just put a big bow on the dress to cover any mishaps. Esme would love that!

I'm not keen in hugging people I don't know so well. Great with my dcs but I'm not a hugger and don't see why I should feel bad about that.
